How about all of the above?
It’s a front
Because he’s an eldritch being he already knows what’s in it, he just pretend to go along with Cesare’s machinations
@@lileenleen He doesn't. His very existence follows r̸u̷l̵e̸s̷ that your mortal brain couldn't possibly comprehend. Being the butt of a practical joke is absolutely a part of those r̸u̷l̵e̸s̷ and a weakness that Cesare accounted for.
This man literally fought a “jacked” buck with his bear hands and sliced a food truck in half while running at freeway speeds. So, I’m a bit terrified to think of what might be in that backpack to make him describe it as “really heavy”.
He already knows what it is
It's him, Steve is in the bag
I was expecting there to be something dangerous like a bomb in the backpack. But the contents are never revealed to us, just described as "very heavy". That makes me think it's just full of bricks, and Cesare's plan was just to make Steve wear a really heavy backpack and be uncomfortable, which is hilarious to me
It was so that he would be late to the burger science expo (I think)
@@dove_inblack3546 To imagine missing something so vital.

I love it cause it's like, Billie is the obvious "straight man" archtype but Tim is like a 'gag' straight man. Like he's so used to the wild shenanigans that it's become his new normal.
1:14 the way Steve says "I do need a backpack" made me immediately think of how the old man says "I do love to barter" in Free Apple
The bog standard old man? Yeah, I liked that too - for an old man who was completely run-of-the-mill.
Popular, talented voice actors playing characters who cannot do voice work is my favorite extremely obscure trope.
I think the slightly broader trope "people who are good at things having to pretend they're bad at those things" is pretty great

It’s interesting how Steve seems to be on an almost… reverse Flanderization arc. Like each episode seems to have fewer of his little quirks, to the point where he acts totally lucid and normal in this episode.
Yeah it’s sort of weird, I totally get what you mean
I feel like Cesare is going in the opposite direction, although that could just be Chris Fleming doing his thing and us not being able to handle it
What if the backpack contains anti-clowninite and is sapping Steve's powers
He's nervous at his first food truck expo as mentioned the previous episode, and the backpack's weight probably doesn't help.
After all he's uncomfortable at the expo around alot of people. Maybe being quiet is his coping mechanism.
Steve is a Real Clown, and thus bound by Clown Rules. If the ending song is to be believed, Cesare used to sell marionettes in Venice, which suggests that some Commedia might have rubbed off on him. He is not a clown, but he does make waves in the clown essence.
The most fundamental Clown Rule is this; your characterization and continuity is never more important than Sticking The Bit. Steve knew Cesare was going to be here before he even arrived; he felt the ripples in the Jokeforce. He anticipated Cesare's approaching manic energy. And Clown Rules demanded that he adapt to be the funniest possible response. In this case, that requires him to be a very buttoned down and nonplussed straight man.
The question is, does Cesare know this? Is he willing to enforce the Rules Of The Bit to keep his rival locked into nonthreatening groundedness? Is gaming the system like that a violation of the rules, somehow? It remains to be seen! The myth arc DEEPENS.
I love how both Steve and Cesare are a genuine Clown and Vampire, and are on opposing sides of an ancient rivalry... And show that rivalry with competing in food trucks, which they both know very little about. And no one notices
I think Cesare is a Zombie not vampire. This series is sending me to the moon though
