  • March 8th 2017, Depeche Mode were in a Q&A with fans and Time Talks. At one point a fan asked for some older songs and asked for the setlists to increase from 22 songs to 25 or 30. Hear their answer and you’ll see why this was posted.

Been a fan of DM, and the Cure for nearly 40 years. I can honestly say I’ve never come across any rivalry between the 2 bands. Both helped me get through my teenage years.

Nah - there's a lot of respect between the two. Robert has covered a DM song. And you see images of them hanging out together over the years. Robert even offered Alan Wilder the keyboard gig when he left DM.

The Cure are friends of and fans of Depeche Mode. Robert Smith did a cover of World in My Eyes for the DM tribute album back in 1998. He also invited Alan Wilder to join The Cure after Alan left DM in 1995. It would've been awesome for both bands to work together on something.

Not to mention the strict connection both bands have through the Bamonte's brothers: Daryl worked for DM for years before joining The Cure as tour manager afterwards. Perry and Mart went to the same school , just saying 😜

Age is irrelevant, Robert is still an outstanding artist and performs in the same manner as when he first started, he pours everything into his music and his voice is remarkable!!! He does not just stand there idle he is quite active on stage. I do enjoy some music of Depeche Mode; however, it is absolute madness they could even attempt to compare or criticize Robert when he eclipses them!

@@NetCanvas come now. Robert Smith is quite active on stage? Lol. Anyone who has seen the show knows he stands in one place. At the beginning of the show, he walks around on the stage and Smiles at the audience, but for the next three hours he mainly stands in one location. i'd be interested in your definition of quite active on the stage.

I just saw the Cure. They sounded amazing. Robert Smith's voice sounds as good as it did 40 years ago. They played for 3 hours. 30 songs. I think if there wasn't a curfew they would have played for 3 more hours. My tickets were $75. Cheapest were $25, most expensive were about $400. I'd love to see Depeche Mode, but their cheapest are about $120 with fees and most expensive well over $1000. Some resales going for 4k! I think they could beef up the set list to 25-30 for what they are asking.

Well, Fletch does have a point, and I happen to love both bands! But for me the issue with DM is that they need to change up their concert setlists. For the high price of tickets compared to the Cure, they should throw in some more oldies from city to city. They never even play their biggest hits like People are People or Strangelove anymore. Heck just doing a medley of songs would be great so they don't have to play the full song if they don't want to. There's just so many songs that they can switch it up with.

Saw both bands this year. First time for both. Seen hundreds of other concerts. I rank 2023's The Cure tour in my top 5. DM was good. But way too expensive and the only band member earning his keep was the drummer. For the price of DM Tix, they should've had back up singers.😮

I love both bands. Flew across the country to see DM (and crap was it super expensive!) However, DM have cancelled on me twice in the past, Fletch is dead, and they aren't getting any younger. Enjoyed it, but super expensive and now I can finally cross that off my list. I've seen The Cure a few times, and will see them again next month. They've always put on a solid (and long!) show and I really enjoy Robert's stance on fighting with Ticketmaster and realizing that often times the people in the way back travelled a long way to see them and it cost them quite a bit of money. (There's a CZcams video of him saying it somewhere... shouldn't be hard to find.) So, he really takes that to heart and tries to give you your money's worth and if it weren't for curfews, he would probably play on for several more hours. Also, I love Dave, but his voice is starting to go a bit, as the concert I went to in March can attest to. Still an absolute showman though. Robert, however, remains on point.
(Also, I would have LOVED to have heard "Stories of Old" or "Blasphemous Rumours" on this tour... and "The Sun and the Rainfall.")
