Marco Tempest is awesome. I love how he explains things. His voice sets him apart as well as his magic
Remember that the E in TED stands for entertainment. With that in mind, this seems like a perfectly appropriate TED talk. Science and technology are the how, but human experience is the why.
TED's becoming more entertainment than educational now days, they are taking it in a diffrent direction :S
Now that's a TED presentation worth watching^^
i am absolutely amazed by marco tempest, he may not be the illusionist, but the things he said during this talk are totally true and meaningful
watching it again and again, enjoyed it to the full extent...!!!
So fun! Nice use of special effects and choreography!
Wonderful TED talk! Magical, emotional, entertaining... Shared!
Thanks a lot Marco Tempest.
I'm majoring on computer science and since I joined the university I've asked myself why I chose this major. Now I know why. Because I want to make magic real.
Really really imaginative! Truly a story teller
He could have easily done this without magic and the topic would still be interesting, but doing it with magic just made it 4x better! :D
this talk made me smile.
Captivating adaptation of augmented reality, thanks TED!
Live life to the fullest. laugh and learn. One of the best videos on TED. Thanks.
I sometimes think that life in general is a magic trick. Problem is I don't know if I'm waiting for the punch line or the deception tactic to finally be revealed so I can sit back in my seat with ease and have a good laugh.
Loved this so much!
how amazing!!luv it!!
as a magician to those that dont believe this guy is absolutly intense
he does create his own effects
on top of that he has to time cordinate himself to his video magic it is extremely challenging
this is not effects like in a movie this is so much more
this talk will be on EVERYTHING IS TERRIBLE by 2021
Well done Marco!!
Incredibly inspiring. I just remember part of the appeal of my field (animation).
WWWowww, so wonderful! He so creative
That was awesome. I want to listen to it again and again. The first view i was in wonder over the technology he was using and the magic he was doing. But i heard a few pieces of good information that i need to hear again to fully appreciate this video.
TED really love this guy
they need to get the technology up to HQ, but otherwise its AWSOME!
good observation. Thanks
the amount of Awesomeness in this video is too damn high .. Thank you sir for making my day
Is this guy the official magician of TED? He's done 3 TED magic shows & I think it's cool.
Loved it
amazing!
The E in TED stands for ENTERTAINMENT, so this talk is very appropriate.
eu gostei. é incrivel
It's all in the Xbox Kinect sensor I think. That's what allows such perfect synchronization.
This needs to be presented as a hologram that actually surrounds him instead of only appearing on video.
I think the idea behind liking magic is more enjoying the innocence of not knowing so you feel like you are in aurae/aura/ore. It's more like revisiting child hood when everything in the world seemed fine and peaceful... everything could still be explored... I don't think it is anything to do with belief. I think it's more to do with a romantic feeling of not understanding that which intrigues us but in a kind way. :-)
Ummm, I think you guys missed the point. It's not about how big the effects were. It was that they were interactive and automatic. It always takes energy to innovate. If I always work on the assumption that 'it can be done cheaper' with a method currently available, then people will not normally invest to get over the hill that leads to even more economic usage. That's the foundation of economies of scale. It's part of technology innovation through tech life cycles.
I hear you!
He's trying to tell you something. An opportunity not yet fully realised.
I'm right there with him.
Most of the effects were not pre-recorded. This was made with a hacked kinect(XBOX360), which is our first step into making 3 dimensional usercreated content.
Good things are coming.
He amazed me!
Might not be that learning as a normal TED video, But damn is it cool
nice presentation
4:54 puts the yellow ball(s) in his pocket :D Sneaky cameras hahaha
Amazing
wow, very nice
a good artist, especially a magician, never reveal their tricks ;)
So interesting
He's done so many of these presentations and even though he says it's not prerecorded, there's no way the computer doesn't know the exact order that everything will happen. Personally, I find it less impressive than some of the better Xbox Kinect hacks.
awesome
brilliant
i definitely consider this as art... performing one...
The problem with this demonstration is that it is so busy that it becomes almost impossible to concentrate on what is said.
A simple power point presentation is augmented reality as is an old fashioned overhead projector. Even with these media augmentations the speaker has to remember to keep it simple or the audience stops listening.
On the other side, 'Too Much Magic' by James Kunstler.
Awesome
very interesting
I wanna see the same presentation with Holograms when the come out
You are a genius...!!!!!!!!
A Kinect and some software around the community SDK. do you really need a talk around that?
Well you are right, we do need one, cause the purpose of TED is to update a community who can't keep up with every fields.
Cool!
I loved it. If you pay attension, you might learn somthing about the preformance arts, or even about life itself.
TED stands for Technology, Entertainment & Design. This talk is from the entertainment category and it is completely appropriate. Next time read the description box.
what does TED stand for...? technology, ->entertainment
Pretty fucking cool even if it is just a rehash of "just slightly old" technology (it moves so damn fast now...)
I was pretty sure that is about telling a story using AR as a medium and not about the about the quality of the technology he use. Beside, CZcamsrs using the green screen is not the same idea because is not live, and of course you can get a better quality that way.
To sum it: the video is about story telling, not AR.
anyone knows how much that whole set of machine costs? Thank you
i was really hopping for wearable camera tech that overlays 3d objects onto the scene your looking at merging virtual and real.. this is more of a gloried webcam tech with depthmapping..
still entertaining though
If you pause it at the right time at 2:50 you can see exactly how he does it.
Kinect, the best gaming accessory when not used for gaming. ;)
Owhh wowowwowowowwo!!!
i actually clapped at the end from home
All I can say is, Kinect (and microsoft's use so far) is about formulated interactions (which are great and extremely useful), and this guy is trying to use similar and probably more advanced tech to reach outside the bounds of formulated interactions into 'open source' or 'random' interactions that are interesting. We should just wait and see where it goes rather than saying it's worthless.
cool! :D
In the right hands and some perfecting this technology can become really something special. I just hope they don't use just for news channels and sport events.
GOD??!!!!!! This technology is quite amazing.
Software is made to do these type of things without a hacked 360. we're doing motion capture and real time effects without an xbox.
Wow
doesn't have to be augmented reality, just a well might be a practiced recoding. still, a nice little show.
Exactly what I was thinking. Nothing to learn here.
interesting
His movements are out of sync with the video behind him, which you'd expect, but the audio is is in sync with the lips on the video.. something is not right here.
What the hell happened at 4:06? Did he forget to put logic into it after he pulled it up? lol
funtastic
Stanxml: "Bahhh-humbug! Explain to me how this magic works - I ain't no fool!"
Tefod: "I'm too much of an old fart to concentrate on what he said with all that wizza-woo flyin' around; why couldn't he have just used an overhead projector!"
I won't use my brain till I'm given a run-down on how it works. And why use a computer when you can use a typewriter?! And where the fuck is that helicopter that's supposed to be delivering my mochaccino!!
with kinect?
@tedtalksdirector did you guys know your in the movie prometheus about the elites secret religion
i saw him pull things out or put things into his pockets repeatedly
Damn
zomg!!!!!
I enjoyed and learned a lot from this video but I take offense to the statement that magic is deception. Magic is NOT deception. Magic is a product of directed observer attention or focus. Magic means to attract as in attract attention. The word image means a magnet or attractor for the mind.
Have you ever wondered how someone from the 1700's would react to this kind of stuff haha
I can see some autism benefits with this device. perception of visual information, to teach delays in social and sequenced based learning. Give me one. Thank you.
Brought to You by Microsoft Kinect.
Skeptics - watch again. "The visuals you are about to see are not pre-recorded. They are live and reacting to me in real-time." So, no, not like the movies. This is real-time reactive computing with some custom software. Powered by Kinect.
I appreciate your response. IMHO magic is just the use of focused attention to attract what we want and humanity has perverted it to mean deception. Regardless of weather one believes in our own ability to attract our desires through focused attention, it is the perversion of the word with which I take offense.
Some TED talks were ignorant in the past. Don't assume that if someone goes on TED then their viewpoints are the end all be all.
Let say... a LOT
What did he say?
@0:15 You're welcome
I always figured it was "Education" hm...
Holy f@#@en real life Disney!
I swear that guy had pockets in his wrists!
