The Nissan does not have a “JATCO designed and built trans”. It’s a Mercedes designed trans that then built by jatco. The same trans that is in the frontier is in the titan, meaning its going to be more reliable in the frontier because it’s only a V6 it’s hooked up too and it’s carry even less weight. The frontier is by far the best bang for you buck truck here, has just enough tech and a reliable drivetrain.

Correct on that. The Daimler Benz 9 speed has been out for many years. Its a proven design. The frontier is a heavy ass truck for a mid size. Maybe 1K lbs less then a titan at most. Its a tank.

@Brian_Eugene_Lee Believe me you don't want a diesel in mid size. Too many problems with the DEF emissions etc.. If we could get the mid sizes sold over seas that would be great without the DEF etc... Would love a hilux with the D4D or a Navara with the 2.3 twin turbo diesel. But it ain't going to happen. Probably your best bet would be a 1500 chevy truck with the 3.0 duramax. That one seems to be reliable running all that DEF crap. Dodge finally threw the towel in with their 3 liter diesel. Constant problems with emissions. You can still find 23's on the lots however. But I'd go with GM on that. The inline six is better then that crappy fiat diesel every day and twice on Sundays.

I bought the 24 nissan frontier pro 4x. I like the look of the nissan and the fact that it has the non turbo motor. I was tempted by all of the other trucks as far as comparison and pros and cons. I feel like youre splitting hairs with all the options. I was drawn to the nissan. Overall, I'm happy with the nissan, but I wish it got better real world fuel mileage. I saw some real world mpgs on all the other trucks and they do much better than the nissan. Other than that I feel good about my purchase of the nissan. Great vid! I subscribed!

    • @HiPlains1
      @HiPlains1 Před 4 měsíci +4

None of these body on frames get good MPG's. The turbos suck down just as much if not more. When under boost they consume allot of fuel. OEMs hit a wall about 5 years ago with gas motors. About the only way around that problem is to use diesel. But the Feds have such tight emissions that's its really not worth going the route. In other markets Nissan sells the Navara truck with the twin turbo diesel can get over 30 mpg's on hwy. And that is with the 4X4 Pro 4X model. Which is a damn good looking truck IMO.

Ben, you have been Bringing It with the multi vehicle tests lately! Geez, damn good video. I am in the market for a midsize (or base trim 1/2 ton) to tow a small camper and haul camping gear with a shell/topper. I am not brand loyal; however, I have owned primarily Asian brands in my 40 years of buying vehicles (Mazda - 2, Datsun - 1, Toyota - 2, Honda - 3, Volvo - 1, Saab - 1, Ford - 1, Subaru - 1, and Kia - 2). As a teenager, I drove a Jeep J-10 pickup, an Olds Cutlass Supreme, and several of my dad’s land barges (Lincolns, Chryslers, and Cadillacs) For me, buying a truck, is about function. I need it to do something. I am a fan of all the trucks in this test along with the Gladiator and the Ridgeline. Lots of good choices in the midsize market. I want 4WD and/or AWD for light off-roading and some winter driving. I don’t need or want an off-road oriented truck, particularly since that drives down payload. For me, the Tacoma and the Frontier are great daily drivers that also serve as life style vehicles and/or off-roaders. However, they do not excel at the functions of hauling and towing relative to the Ranger and GM twins. Since my camper only weighs 2900 lbs, any tow capacity at or above 5,000 lbs will suffice for my needs. Payload is the critical variable. The Frontier/Tacoma at 1100/1200 lbs of payload are inferior compared to the Ranger/Colorado. Honda Ridgelines consistently have 1477 to 1586 lbs of payload. The Gladiator, GM twins, and Ranger can be optioned with 1500 to 1650 lbs of real world payload along with the ability to tow 7500 to 7700 lbs. I am underwhelmed with the Ranger’s exterior styling and pedestrian front end, but I am impressed with its function, interior, and value in this comparison. I prefer the styling of the Colorado (I like the Canyon even more) and I like that it offers Auto 4WD. I am not sure which truck I will end up buying at the end of 2024, but it will not be the Frontier or Tacoma since they lack the functionality of 1500 lbs of payload for my needs. Damn good lifestyle vehicles, but they don’t function enough as a truck in terms of hauling for me.

Never missed a beat and feels plenty powerful enough. Going from 2021 to 2024 Ranger, there are a couple of things that I really wish Ford did for the ‘24 model:
    1. Keep the gas hood struts that were in the 2019-23 model…why did they replace them with the old school strut??? Seems a backwards step to me
    2. Add keyless entry and push button start to the XLT trim…overseas models get this in XLT, why doesn’t the USA?
    3. Split-fold rear seats. This would be so handy to have!
    4. Keep the lock-unlock buttons for all doors in the rear doors. My 2021 had them but my 24 doesn’t and I miss them.
    5. Give us in the USA a diesel option. My dad just took delivery of a 2024 Everest with the 3.0L V6 diesel and I’m super envious. That would be an awesome engine to have in a “small” truck like the Ranger
Overall, really happy with the changes to the styling of the new Ranger, but glad they kept the 2.3L/10spd drive train because I like it, personally.

The Toyota is grossly overpriced. The toyota is basic with the SR5 trim level. Then for the same money you can have an XLT Ranger with FX4 package or a Frontier PRO 4X which I know comes with a rear locker. Even the Chevy comes with the Z71 package. This is a great video as it demonstrates how Toyota missed the mark on their price points. To anyone shopping around the segment it will become very obvious how bad a value the taco is. Toyota heads must really believe that buyers will pay a premium for the name. And ironically, Toyota is the loan maker that went south to Mexico for cheap labor. Whereas Chevy builds their truck at Wentzville Misouri. Ford at the Wayne plant in Michigan. And Nissan at the Canton Plant in Miss. Just on that alone, I would buy American. Really getting sick and tired of greedy corps sending jobs to other countries. And its just sad that toyota did that and raised their prices above all others. Pure greed. Excellent video Ben because your the first to really demonstrate this point to a tee. Tired of Toyota fanbois mouthing off how the taco is no more expensive then the others. Well, this video puts that argument to rest. You better believe it. Also appreciate Bens unbiased approach here. Just showing the features side by side. Not really picking favor here. To the viewer though I'm sure many will see how overpriced the toyota presents itself.

You willing to pay the huge Toyota tax on that? I mean you got a bare SR5 with shitty street tires and rims, no rear locker, a tiny center stack, a cheap instrument cluster, a sea of hard plastics and a back seat that is unusable. Can't believe its even more cramped then the outgoing. The Ranger puts you in mid XLT trim with FX4 package, much nicer interior center stack/instrument cluster and class leading back seat etc.. Chevy also offer their mid level Z71 at the same price point. The frontier P4X probably the best deal here offering pretty much loaded trim. This is the one that is above the mid level trim and also offers Dana 44 rear locker. In short, the taco is grossly overpriced to the competition here. In fact, you would have to spent 5-6 thousand more to get into a decently optioned sport or offroad to even be competitive feature to feature. And its the only one made in Mexico with cheap Mexican labor. On that alone, I would not buy.

Just got a 2024 Ranger XLT FX4 with the 2.3L. I’d have liked the 2.7L V6 because more powah…duh…but I honestly don’t need it. Plus, my old 2021 Ranger with 2.3L was solid.

Plus where I live, having forced induction means you actually get the rated horsepower and not as low as 65% of it. Or me, the L3B is the obvious winner engine here.
