    Hello and welcome to BOAB Models - today we will build a replica of my grandparents' Austin Mini for my Grandad's 90th birthday. I'm using the Heller 1/43 scale kit as the basis and will print custom decals and convert it to right hand drive.
    The Mini is a small, two-door, four-seat car, developed as ADO15, and produced by the British Motor Corporation (BMC) and its successors, from 1959 through 2000. Minus a brief hiatus, original Minis were built for four decades and sold during six, from the last year of the 1950s into the last year of the 20th century, over a single generation, as fastbacks, estates, and convertibles.

    nice build especially with the fond memories associated with it. I'm waiting for a kit of a volkswagen T2 pickup my german grandfather drove when sometimes taking me or picking me up from 2nd grade in Berlin. I do have a kit of a chevrolet 1980 monte carlo I will build for my mom. it was her favorite car and the car i learned to drive in and eventually totalled a couple years later. ahh fond memories

      Thank you, Dean. I totally agree - I wish there were kits of the cars my parents drove when I was young.

    Cool little build. My first car was an orange ‘79 Mini but mine was made by Leyland.
    PS: your yellow Mini reminds me of the movie Goodbye Pork Pie (it’s a classic here in New Zealand). It’s worth hunting down to see an early 80’s Mini road trip along the length of NZ.

    • @BOABModels
      @BOABModels  Před rokem

      Ah, that's interesting - whilst Leyland became the parent group in 1966, cars weren't really branded as Leyland in the UK. They mainly did trucks and buses.
      I'll keep an eye out for that film, definitely!

    I like it! Great little kit with a lot of fairly good detail. You've done a great job there and it's such a thoughtful gift idea. I've got a 24 scale revell kit I intend to do soon but I'll look forward to seeing you build yours too.

      Thank you very much! My 1/24 kit is the Fujimi. I think the Revell and Tamiya kits benefit from having a separate roof which is easier to paint. Also the Revell has an engine. Enjoy it!

    My parents first car was a mini, it had the pull cords for the door openers :) well done on a 'mini' Mini and converting it to right hand drive, I might be wrong but I think the front had white number plates and black for the rear ones, not being picky or anything and most definately doesn't detract your work in any way, looking forward to the bigger Mini build

    • @BOABModels
      @BOABModels  Před rokem

      Thanks, Sarah Jane. My nanny told me that both front and back were black. The one I'm planning to make is one of the last to ever enter the Monte Carlo rally, from 1995.

      @@BOABModels I wasn't sure about the number plates, very nice with the 1995 Monte Mini definately look forward to that

      @@BOABModels I have a real 1967 Mini - front and rear plates were white or silver characters on a black background

    • @BOABModels
      @BOABModels  Před rokem

      Ah thanks a lot! My nanny thought that was the case although she couldn't find any pictures of the car itself.

    • @neilbedford5082
      @neilbedford5082 Před rokem +1

      I should have said - that the black and silver plates lasted until around 1973, when they changed to the usual 'white on the front, yellow on the rear' - so it would depend on the year of grandad's Mini.

    Great build I am building this kit too. Unfortunately the body and chassis of my kit were severely warped. Nothing that cannot be fixed though. Mine will be yellow too.

    Why super glue on the rear lamps, is that for extra strength or something else? Cheers. Looks fantastic by the way.

    • @BOABModels
      @BOABModels  Před rokem +1

      Thank you Tony. It's foam safe super glue so in small amounts, it doesn't react with the plastic and it's a lot quicker acting than white glue. I only had two days to build this so I was against the clock!

    Nice video, what adhesive do you use and is it supplied in that dispenser? Wish my hands were as steady as yours! Don’t forget Atlas make a 1/43 diecast Mini identical to this one although yours presents better.

    • @BOABModels
      @BOABModels  Před rokem

      Thanks very much! We had looked for a diecast in the right colour and not found one which was why I offered to build one. If you're talking about the green lid, that's Tamiya extra thin cement. So useful and definitely my favourite glue.

    • @andrewneeds8189
      @andrewneeds8189 Před rokem

      @@BOABModels: Thanks for that, I build both diecast and plastic model cars, think I'll give that a try, looks less viscous than ordinary super glue.

    • @BOABModels
      @BOABModels  Před rokem

      It's a poly cement so it will work on certain plastics like the styrene these kits are made from but won't bond things like metal. Also be careful as it can cause paint to run and clear parts to go misty. I used a foam safe super glue for the clear parts.
