  • In this 72nd Video from Classic Car ChitChat you will get to see a beautiful 1980 Chevy Camaro Z28 Restomod with a Gear Drive! This car has been lovingly restored by her owner David who has owned it for over 27 years. The car has a 383 Stroker Engine with an exhaust system that makes this beauty “roar”. The can was retrofitted with a 5-speed manual transmission in a blue metal-flake colour that can only be described as a mesmerizing blue.
In case you are keeping Track this is Video # 72 of Classic Car ChitChat Videos!
I hope my Classic Car ChitChat video’s make you smile. I do them in my spare time because I truly love cars and my intentions are simply to honour the beautiful cars I get to see and to really understand the passion and love of the vehicle by the driver (or caretaker as Jay Leno would say) of the car. I also understand too that my videos perhaps lack the polish calibre of great CZcamsrs like: Doug DeMuro, Scotty Kilmer, and of course my favourite Supercar Blondie. I also know that I can’t even come close the quality & finish you get from the likes of Jeremy Clarkson and the boys at Top Gear. I think they use a little fancier equipment than my little iPhone… LOL
    Mission Statement:
My Objective through creating these videos is to shine the spotlight on people who love their vehicles whether it be a car, motorcycle, or even a bicycle…. Bottom line is if it has wheels and you love it then let’s show that passion to the world!
    Equipment Used:
Camera - Just an iPhone SE (Nothing fancy - which proves anyone can use whatever you have handy to make a video… you don’t need really expensive equipment)
Gimbal - DJI OM4 - For that ultra-smooth cinematic look. (To be honest... still not quite sure how to use it but one day I will figure it out!)
Audio - Rode Wireless GO II (I gotta be honest… this is really the biggest investment that was made… I wish there was a cheaper option but after the first couple of videos I soon realized that audio quality is important and hopefully better than the onboard mic on the iPhone!
Contact Details: If you have any questions or just want to chat you can reach me through all the (non-traditional) typical ways through the following:
    Facebook - / classiccarchitchat
    Instagram - / classiccarchitchat
    Email - classiccarchitchat@gmail.com
If you have read this far, then I thank you. As always, I truly appreciate your “thumbs-up”, and by leaving your comments it demonstrates to me that I managed to get you involved and hopefully made you smile. Most importantly when you subscribe to my channel then you are truly acknowledging my effort to help share with others like you my passion and love for “all things that have wheels” and honouring the people who take care of them.
    Thank You
    Kevin

Travis, First of all thank you so very much for watching my videos and subscribing to my channel I truly appreciate it. My intention for the videos is to showcase the car and also allow the owner of the car (the caretaker as Jay Leno rightly says) the opportunity to share their story, love and passion for their car. You are indeed a lucky man to have owned such an awesome car for 17 years. Don’t let her go. The Camaro in my view was always the car that was easily recognizable and always sought after by every muscle car lover. Back in the day I bought an 84 TransAm and drove it all your round on its summer tires(because I couldn’t afford winter tires or he he k a winter beater car) I loved that car and wish that I had the ability to keep her. It was either the car or buy a house.. trust me i even tried convincing my wife we can live in the car…LOL

Cars used to be designed by the artist, then as closely made after the ability of mass production could do. Now it's mass production VS what a human had designed as art. If only we could go back to primarly artist made vehicles, with the new technology incorporated, without the loss of human art! Anyone agree?

Take a look at the era of cars before the 80's each had unique styling elements and it was a time when perhaps we did not fuss so much about aerodynamics and left that aspect to aircraft design. Nowadays take a look at any SUV as an example and it is almost impossible to differtiae a KIA, Honda, Nissan, Hyundai... Heck even Buick now. 😊

Had a 1980 Z28 just like that, same color even, late '79 to end of '85 when I joined the Army. Wouldn't mind getting another one. Mine wasn't modded quite as nice as that one back in the day - it had the original 350 engine with headers and dual exhaust, an Edelbrock Performer manifold, Holley 650, and Cam Dynamics 286 Enforcer cam, nitrous kit, WS-6 Trans Am anti-sway bars, gas shocks, suspension lowered 1 inch and 265/50-15 tires all the way around. We didn't have 20 inch wheels in those days so it had the original 5-spoke steel wheels. It looked stock but handled like a go-cart and turned 14.2s @ 98.5-mph at the track without the nitrous. Only made one run at the track with the nitrous - it turned 13.7 @ 105 but I couldn't even use the nitrous until I was just about to shift into 2nd gear with the automatic. No way I could get it to hook up off the line or anywhere in first gear. I was surprised that he got 285s on the back. Even fiting the 265s required that I remove the rear seat belts and flatten the bulges that protruded into the wheel wells and bend the inner fender lips for clearance but maybe because he didn't need to lower it with the 20" wheels. Putting 265/50-15s on the original 15" wheels made them look lost in the wheel wells so I cut a coil off the front springs and modified the leaf spring bracket to lower the car an inch which looked awesome.

@@ClassicCarChitChat Thanks. Looking at that one really brought back a lot of memories. And made me think, yeah, that's what I would have done had I not been a broke college student. LOL. The story of how I got mine is funny. As a teenager, like all teeagers at the time, I wanted a Trans Am just like Smokey and the Bandit. Didn't we all? But by the time I was old enough and in any position to even think about it, they had discontinued the Pontiac 400 engines and I didn't want anything to do with the Turbo Trans Am. Anyway, I had a clunker that had gotten me through high school and one day my parents said they would buy me a new car as my graduation present. Woo-hoo! But my parents were absolutely not car people. So I figured I needed to stick with something basic like a Malibu or whatever Pontiac had at the time in that market slot. So my dad and I went out to look at cars. Now I had my standards - I wasn't having anything that didn't have at least a V-8 and a sport package, even if it was just a 305. Well, every car we looked at with those types of options was around $12,000. Dad looked at the sticker and saw the option list and said no way, you don't need all of this. So we were kind of stuck. Went to the Chevy dealer, the Pontiac dealer, and the Oldsmobile dealer but it was always the same: $12,000 +/-. And dad just kept saying that I didn't need the V-8 or the sports package, he just wanted me to have a reliable car for college. Without those kind of options they were around $10,000. So while we were at the Chevy dealer I was just wondering around and I started looking at this dark metallic blue Z28 with the light blue stripes. Man it was beautiful, just like the one in the video. Of course there was no way, was there? Dad would never go for that. So I looked at the sticker: it said A/C, tinted windows, floor mats. That was it. No other options. $8250. I ran over to my dad and told him that he had to come and see this. He looked at the sticker, saw that it wasn't loaded up with options, and saw the $8250 price and that was that. They would not budge on the price as Z28s were selling like hotcakes at that point but $8250 was still much less than the other cars. And so that was it, we bought the Z28.

All that's left for me to do is tidy up the seats and get it repainted (original paint ofc). I've just been watching videos and reading some forums so I can get to know the car more and stumbled on this one. So sick love it.

I believe they were so ragged on,and rusted out..that's why they weren't long lasted. In 1990,most around Indiana, were rusted out and abused to far for most to restore or do anything with. It sad,but atleast G.M. kept making the most artist made cars and trucks. Th8nk tho..how hard would it it be,for such a great company,to just reproduce the same, with better longevity and better 400hp models, atleat?!! There are 2 kinds of car buyers, those who want what is available they like. Then there are the ones that want what they want..can look at and have ever lasting art, that is truly appreciated!

And the sound of that exhaust through the resonators, no mufflers. Eventually 2 kids and luggage didn’t fit and swapped for a Pontiac 6000 V6 with wire wheel covers. All the upgrades i was doing to my truck i wanted a car that i dident have to tinker with. Made a police report and got a call about 2 am they found my car it was towed to the impound I went to go pick up my car and as I walked up to it I noticed the t top on the passenger side was up a little when I got closer I could see the passenger door was wrecked and pushed into about the middle of the seat I was sick I started crying the car was totaled with only a Lil more then 4200 miles on it I got sick to my stomach I was so upset all the money and work I put into my pride and joy . Hi JG, I actually say the bright blue colour version once and it too is beautiful. I also wanted to take a moment to personally thank for watching my videos and subscribing to my channel I truly appreciate it. As you may have seen in my videos that my intention is to showcase not only the beautiful car and really give the owner of the car (the caretaker as Jay Leno rightly says) the opportunity to share their story, love and passion for their car. Thanks again Kevin.
