I worked at a company about 30 years ago and they had one that lived on the C suite floor. Sometimes would land on your shoulder when you came out of the elevator and hitch a ride wherever you were going.
Marie, I love how you take pleasure from the little things you see along the way of your big adventures- a deer, a Mustang, a song on the radio, a good breakfast. It makes me realize how easy it is to go through life jaded and how much we take for granted as we simply pass through. Appreciating what's all around us is a talent that's easy to forget as we get older, and sadly, some never have it and these people often seem to go through life unhappy. The world is a wonderful place if you're open to it, and you most certainly are!
I still remember visiting Mammoth Cave with my family in the 70's. It is an amazing place and well worth the trip. Probably one of the more underrated National Parks IMO.

The part I remember most from my tour of Mammoth Cave, was when the guide turned all the lights off. It was BEYOND black, and I could almost feel the mountain over top of me.

I went to college in Bowling Green, KY and the international students loved going to Mammoth cave. Those of us from KY and TN had seen it before and we were yeah I've been there. We forget how impressive and awe inspiring it really is. I will watch the Jack Daniel's one soon. If you enjoy that kind of tour there are many tours of famous Bourbon distilleries in Kentucky. If you do get a chance to get up that far keep going to the area where they fancy horse farms are for the thoroughbred race horses. Also to anyone who hasn't seen it look for videos on when a cave opened up in the Corvette museum and swallowed a bunch of cars. The towns I have lived in have all been sitting on caves and I've always said how do we know a cave isn't going to suddenly break through and swallow us up. Most people told me I was just being paranoid but now I can show them that video.

When I was little I went with my family (my mom is super scared of heights), and I was, so I'm told, running around and giving my mom a near panic attack. That was the last time we went to a cave.
Wow. That looks like SUCH a cool place! And it sounds like Ranger Quentin has some great jokes!😂This place is definitely going on my bucket list. I also got a good laugh at the hat and the tea in the rocking chair. 😂
I was a park ranger at Mammoth Cave and that was some of the best years of my life. Even though I live in Kentucky, I haven't been back out to Mammoth Cave since 2012. I think it is about time I went back for a visit.

Cool video Marie! Mammoth Cave is great. The first time I went to the cave was mid -70's , when we moved to Kentucky. I've been through it about 10 to 12 times over the years. Fun fact, Griff's Deli is about 2 blocks from the Office I work at when I'm not working from home. So depending on which way you came to Griff's, you drove past my building. If you would like to see a few hundred Mustangs all in one spot, come back to Bowling Green Sept 26-29 for the Holley Ford festival.

A funny trivia fact for you that I was reminded of when seeing our "Welcome to Kentucky" sign. A while back they used to have other words written at the bottom of those signs instead of the governors name. It used to read "Welcome to Kentucky. Home of beautiful women and fast horses" (the fast horses referred to the Kentucky Derby). Some people went around to a bunch of those signs and peeled off the letters and moved them around so that it then said "Welcome to Kentucky. Home of beautiful horses and fast women"! (as in the women were easy to "get with") LOL! They changed them all soon after that to just have the governors name. 😂
Kentucky girl here…my husband is actually from the Mammoth Cave area. It’s a fun cave to tour and there are many other caves to see in the area. My favorite thing to do in the area is go to the Amish stores in Horse Cave and Cub Run. ❤ Touring Mammoth cave and hearing the stories is definitely a “must do” while in that area.
I live about 15 minutes from the park! Every relative that came to visit us, we would take there!

I'm glad you made it to Mammoth Cave. My accent is close to the Rangers. I've been there several times. It's somewhere you go and discover something new every time..
My family took the historic cave tour there, on family vacation back in the mid eighties. Years later, we went back and took the Frozen Niagara tour.

You should have visited the Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, Ky while you were passing through. Corvettes have been made in Bowling Green exclusively since the 1980s. It's a cool museum. I remember going to Mammoth Cave when I was in grade school (many many years ago lol). I'll have to go back & visit again some day. Nice video!
Thanks for the tour. We visited the Mammoth Caves in 1957 (the Carlbad Caverns were flooded, so we went to the Mammoth Caves instead [ on our drive across the USA] ). Things seem much more modern, LOL. I remember the caves, vaguely, but I remember buying a quartz crystal at the gift shop, and by the time we left, fireflies (which we don't have in Calif.) sparkled in the dusk.
At just over 12 degrees Celsius, I bet it got chilly down there after a while! Great way to beat the heat, though. Thank you for sharing this adventure. Looking forward to the next one! Bon weekend! 🌞🤠🍻🇺🇸
We always take the grand kids to the Caves (they’re entrances to smaller caves in the system all over Kentucky) in heat of summer because January or July the caves stay 58 degrees and it feels glorious down there when it’s 95 outside. I’m a kayaker and there are glow in the dark transparent kayak cave tours around too. So fun! Thanks for stopping by Kentucky. We’re little but it’s a great place to get into nature and living here has been such a blessing. Love the people and the nature!

I’ve been in Mammoth Cave many times. When I was a child, my family went there once a year and I’ve also been as an adult. It’s a great park! I’m glad you liked it❤️🤗🐝

I took the tour back in 1981. It was great. Mammoth Cave Park is spectacular. I was on a dive trip with a group of friends. We dove the fresh water caves in Northern Florida and did a dive with the Manitees on the Crystal River.
a few weeks ago i was at an event called Karst-O-Rama, it's a caving event held in Kentucky at the Great Saltpetre Cave Preserve, about 130 miles east of Mammoth Cave. it was a great time. Glad you enjoyed yourself.
That's in Cave City KY, been through there many times. Even toured the cave many, many years ago.Back then you would turn right off the exit or for you it was left but then turn right straight up that hill to the parking. We've also ate at that Cracker Barrel many time. My cousin is a preacher there about 15 minutes away going down the same street after turning left out of cracker barrel.
I camped at Mammoth Cave and walked to the entrance of the cave when it was closed after dark. There was a layer of mist coming out of the cave about chest high and a few inches thick. It was surreal. Very cool place, Kentucky is beautiful.
You really should go see THE LOST SEA in TN ,its a underground lake deep in a cave,you get to ride across the lake in glass bottom boats to see the albino cave catfish.Its pretty cool.

Aww! the cute cockatoo taken a liking to you. Griff's deli looks scrumptious 😋 , the go to for grilled sandwiches & potato combos , the chicken salad comes recommend to , it's nice that you've been embracing southern cooking. It's superhandy to have locally.
Whoa!! Mammoth caves incredible , your guide was top notch , fascinating facts. It's a mysterious place that I wouldn't venture into alone , a lot of explorers have gone missing , it seems so easy to get lost with that many routes over 100s of miles. The Speleothems are captivating with all the unique shapes , the gypsum flowers are kinda attractive in there own way , it's a delicate white crystal also found along cleveland - kentucky avenue's. It's sometimes also dark brown from the torches that people used 2000 to 3000 years ago that can be seen near Giant's coffin & the historic huts. It's amazing how nature adapted there with the cave fish not having any eyes , the orange salamander , common crickets & the big spiders that even hunt small fish & so forth , a few years back they found a shark fossil bigger than jaws. Everyone does need to watch out for those ticks. There's also a lost river cave at bowling green where you can take a 7 mile boat ride & adjacent to mammoth there's a hidden cave with a suspension bridge that runs underneath the town of Hose cave where they use to get there drinking water. OutlawJessie James would hide out in the caves to It would've been cool if you saw a colony of bats , you probably have elsewhere & like me out in the garden flapping🦇 around at dusk.
Any civil war stop by is always interesting when there's pictures that tell a story.

This is a great place in the world to see, and most people have never even heard of it. I'm glad to see you visit this! Chicago next! :) Be sure to visit the Art Institute; the Museum of Science and Industry; the Field Museum; the Signature Room restaurant at the 95th floor of the Hancock Building; the Architecture Rive Tour; Wrigley Field; the Lou Malnotti's for deep dish pizza; Portillo's for an Italian beef with sweet peppers (dipped), a Chicago hot dog, and a Maxwell Street Polish sausage; Millenium Park (across the plaza from the Art Institute, and where the bean is located); the Shedd Aquarium; the Adler planetarium; the world's largest (5 story) Starbucks reserve; the Magnificent Mile and Chinatown, for a starter.

Great video. When I’ve visited there and also Carlsbad Caverns, NM, the retired construction manager in me marvels almost as much about the tour infrastructure as the natural formations. Concrete, stairs, lighting. Provides the opportunity to share the magnificent natural wonders with so many people.

Marie, so happy to see that you finally got some adventure pants! There are a lot of adventures out there where you'll get wet, you'll get muddy, and you'll have an awesome time doing it! Caves that are cool are such a great thing in the summer because it's like free air conditioning, but when you come out it somehow always feels hotter. It was awesome seeing you holding the bird and it behaved itself for the most part, but you looked concerned when it went after your watch. Luckily the watch was spared. I'm glad you got a long tour of Mammoth Cave and got to see a lot of it. You mentioned that you liked it, but what was your favorite part of it? Did you find any of it particularly challenging? Lastly, it sounds to me like we're going to have to get you a proper rocking chair for your house in France! Thanks for bringing us all along. Take care and keep smiling!
I enjoyed the whole tour, but I think the Fat Man’s Misery was my favorite part because of how focused you had to be and how cool this passage was, it was like real Indiana Jones adventure 😆

I'm so glad you're enjoying your stay in Tennessee. I think it's the most beautiful state in the USA that doesn't have a coastline.
The Nation's is a nickname for what we just called West Nashville when we were growing up. I went to high school in that area. My dad was born and raised in the Nations. It wasn't a very trendy place until just a few years ago. It was just working class homes for working class people. The home that my granddad built with his own hands is gone now it's been replaced with what we call a shotgun house or a two-story tall and skinny. His home was a beautiful little craftsman style cottage where he and my grandmother raised three boys and a girl. So many of those old handcrafted homes are gone now.
You finished your video at Las Palmas, my favorite place to eat in Nashville. I'm heading to the one in Bellevue Tennessee for dinner.. it's just up the road from the Loveless Cafe where you guys ate not long ago.
You did arrive at the hottest time of the year. For people who live in areas of the world that don't ever use air conditioning well I can just say I'm glad we have air conditioning in the south.

There's a small river ferry in Mammoth cave that's free to cross in your vehicle. If you find yourself in the area again, it's worth riding for the experience

My grandparents took me to visit this place during the summer when I was a kid. Good memories, glad you enjoyed yourself.
Been to Mammoth Cave several times in the late 60's early 70's. Have even stayed at Diamond Caverns which has a cave and tours under the lodge. Also been to Bowling Green, KY and camped at Beach Bend Park.
I visited Mammoth Cave when I was a teenager in 1988. I've still got a photo I took of my dad (who was "80's fat" meaning he'd be normal to small now...) grimacing by the sign for Fat Man's Misery in attempt to look like he was miserable, but nobody had any trouble getting through it. I honestly don't remember much else from that trip though, just a lot of walking through the caves and a long drive back up to Chicago after we got out of there.

Grew up in Ky, visited the cave many times. Back in the 1960’s, there was a restaurant in what was called the “Snowball room”. It had formations all over the ceiling that looked like 4” snowballs growing all over it. Back then they also allowed smoking in the restaurant area. Today the restaurant is gone and so are the snowballs…they think probably due to a combination of too many visitors and smoking affecting the formations growth. There were many formations, stalactites and stalagmites, but a lot were damaged or completely gone from visitors wanting a souvenir. We could also take a tour of Echo River on a small boat. The tour has been closed for many years and the entrance to the river is gated and locked. Still, the surrounding area is beautiful and in the Fall it’s fabulous. Have a safe visit. I just returned from a visit to Germany, Austria, Italy, Switzerland and Liechtenstein. Lived in England and Germany back in the 80’s and really missed Europe. Had a GREAT time. Cheers
I think it was eventually established as fact that the residue from common laundry fabric softeners is what interacted chemically with the gypsum to turn it dark brown/black. That's a shame. When I dined at the Snowball Dining Room back in about 1957, the gypsum flowers were pure white, very intricate, and quite a sight to see.

My Dad grew up 20 minutes from there. It was so country the name of the street was my Grandpa's name, bc he made the road, and of the 6 house in the 2 mile length, 5 were grandparents, and uncles and aunts. Hopefully you stopped by the local gas station and got an RC cola and a Moonpie.

For a moment there after your trek through the cave when you were standing in front of the sign with your sunglasses on you looked like Audrey Hepburn (she was famous, your famous, hmmm, coincidence? just did these tours 2 months ago. so fun. my favorite was the intro to caving tour. got to crawl and get real tight in the tunnels. the area is so great. hope you went to buckees in smiths grove.

While the tours along the paved and lighted portions of Mammoth Caver are awesome, I have to mention that for a higher ticket price you can score one of the limited spots for the Wild Cave Tour. Most of your time will be spent with an experienced guide taking you through passages which are not improved, with only your helmet light to see by. It is a tour which requires you to be in good physical condition. You will have to elbow-crawl down some tiny passages, squeeze throught holes in the walls that won't allow for anyone having bigger than a 44" chest, and scale rock falls of jagged rocks left by ceiling collapses in the past. Long ago, in about 1970, the tour included "ledge walking" where the center of the floor of a narrow passage had broken and fallen into a passage below. You put one foot on one side of the missing floor, and your other foot on the other side, and move forward awkwardly as best you can. Meanwhile, on that particular wild cave adventure, a large tour passed underneath us as we were ledge walking. I'm not sure they still include that in the typical Wild Cave tour.
You will get muddy. You will have to wear good hiking boots. Over-the-ankle would be best. They will give you knee pads to wear for times when you will have to crawl on your hands and knees. I've always dreamed of going cave exploring, and this is about as close as a total newbie could ever get to real spelunking. I've done it twice, Too old and feeble now to ever attempt it again. The spots are limited and sell out quickly, so early reservations would be a good idea if the idea intrigues you.

The next time you visit Missouri, you should go to the state capital and see the huge painting that France donated to our state.
I know you are a Mustang fan but I bet you would enjoy the Corvette museum in Bowling Green. Then go to Lexington and go to the horse park and then to the retirement farm for race horses and you might as well go to Buffalo Trace over in Frankfort.
Very cool video. Something I noticed in this one especially is that there are many times when you are speaking your accent disappears and you sound more American almost Southern. I love how you keep seeing all the Mustangs on the road, you have got to go for a drive in one soon.

Visiting the cave and hearing the history and how it played a roll in the American Civil War. One thing that hits you is upon exiting. The cave is a constant 55°F/12.7 C and you get acclimated to that temp but when you walk out into the humid southern air it's like hitting a wall. Living in Tennessee I've visited several times. 😁
After Rock City and Jack Daniels the past couple of weeks, I thought for sure you would be at the Space and Rocket Museum in Huntsville, Alabama this week! Oh well. Kentucky is beautiful and Mammoth Cave is amazing, too!

I've been on that tour and it was amazing.
I have been to many caves. Some are quite large but I never made it to the really big one. Thanks for letting me experience it Marie.
