  • I'm not sure if you could put a roof rack on a C4 Corvette, but I played around in Photoshop to see what was possible. Which way would you do it? Would you do it at all? Would you buy my Corvette for $100,000,000 which is about what I have in it? Am I a complete idiot?

Yes. I would like to register my opinion that you are an idiot. ❤️

Why do you need electrohydraulic lift? Just lift up the back end of the box. That will be only half of its weight so you could have a 100 lb box. Your idea about drilling the halo roof beam is a good one. But first install a replacement panel to drill through and save the original. Next install a hitch receiver and fashion a tee rack hitch accessory like used on pickup trucks. I don't think the tee rack would be any uglier than how ugly the roof box is. Now you have four attachment points at the level of the roof. To open the hatch, just lift up the back of the box and have a strut handy to keep it tilted up. The attachment points on the roof beam would have to be hinged. Voila! Are your ready to prototype it? I look forward to the video!
You have inspired me, I will go out and buy all of the materials including the C4.
I saw a YT video of a Lamborghini with a roof rack.

I think it looks powerful like a fighter jet with a payload of bombs or wing tanks.
Tell Kate Roush: Kevin Welsh is an idiot too.

I really like your idea about the receiver hitch. That's a modification I could get away with without doing something irreparable. I know it's "just a C4 Corvette" or what have you but I'd still like to keep whatever I do reversible and your idea fits that perfectly.
I've seen Stradman's setups! Been a longtime follower of his and I agree, if someone can do it to a Lambo I'm sure there's a way with a C4.
As soon as it gets running and driving I'll keep moving on this rack situation! I'm editing a multi part video about fixing it right now. Hopefully it will be out soon. Glad to have you here and if you do get a C4 I'll be eager to see what you do with it!

Great fun! I have a '79 c3 Corvette which doesn't have an opening rear hatch and has t tops. I am determined to fit a roof rack on it for carrying bikes and other stuff. Your video is truly inspirational!

Thank you! I also had a 79 C3 at one point, fantastic car. I'd love to see what you come up with. Especially since you have a fixed rear hatch you should be able to keep everything low. You should also check out NSXtra who made a video about his roof rack system on an NSX using suction mounts.

Why do you need electrohydraulic assist? Just lift back end of it up (that would be only half of its weight so you could have 100 lb box). Your idea about the halo cross beam is good; but save the original panel and install replacement panel to drill through. Next install a hitch receiver and fashion a tee rack hitch accessory like used on back of pickup trucks. I don't think a tee rack would be any uglier than how ugly roof box already is. Now you have 4 points at the level of the roof to attach roof box or kayak. When you want to open the hatch, unfasten the box at the back of the box and just lift the box up, maybe have a strut handy to keep it tilted up. The attachment points on the roof beam would need to be hinged. Voila! Are you ready to prototype it? I look forward to the video!
I saw a YT video of a guy who installed a roof box on a Lamborghini. It went over the back nicely but looked kinda weird having a big thing on top of the car. But I think it also looked 'powerful' like a fighter jet with a payload of bombs or wing tanks. I can't remember how it was supported on the car. channel: thestradman

    can you solve it?

I suggest you install a hitch receiver with an accessory 'tee' rack like on the back of pickup trucks. Then just lift up the back end of the box which would be only half of its weight so you could have a 100 lb box. Are you ready to prototype it? I look forward to the video!
