Man. I learnd to play F and F# with 1 finger and thumb. thanks. Actualy I didnt play chromatic scale as exersice.... I just forgot. I started learning fingerings by major scales after playing sax.
The first finger for F# is a good default, but the side key F# is a great one to know about especially if you are switching between F and F#!
I never realized how much the music dictates the fingering of some notes until I started playing again. Especially the pinkys. Slip and slide is a wonderful summer game for kids. Not so great for clarinetists.
