    😲 I have watched a lot of videos on chipping. Keep arms straight, use a putting motion, keep your wrist quiet... Then I watched this video and it was like an epiphany. I grabbed my sand wedge and headed to the course and practiced from 50 yards in. From the first swing onward, boom dead on, hitting from the fairway, the rough, and over obstacles. Distance control was pretty easy, good height, ball stopped on a dime. None of that was working for me before.

    This is a fantastic video. Clear concise verbal explanation with the minimal of words. Most importantly are the sweet strokes of Mikelson repeated over and over and over to etch in the student's fragile eggshell brain. So many videos start with a lengthy explanatoin about how "not" to do it before finally getting to the fix. Phil just cuts to the chase. Love this guy!!!

    Never decelerate into the ball, always accelerate into the ball to ensure a proper strike.
    The loft of the wedge will do the rest.
    If the amount of backswing taken is correct, the ball should then reach the desired yardage.
    Shorten the backswing slightly if playing on faster greens, as deemed appropriate.

    People just need to practice and experiment more by themselves. I discovered this same technique on my own because I also break wrist right away always and then I experimented with holding it. The only problem is there are no true short game practice areas from what I can tell(I am new golfer). Every range I went to has only small chipping area. Luckily I go to this one small par 3 course that used to have range but now only short game area and I can practice all the way up to 100 yards shots on it. I have been there dozen times now and I am only one using it everytime which tells me people really dont practice pitching and long chipping. I am not complaining though since I get to be there for hours all by myself😊

      @@cloubriel83 Hitting in square while chipping, I've practice with it on the rough just outside the green and have had it shoot off to the right and thinned it a number of times. Fantastic club in a bunker just outside the green. My go to to flop it onto the green with a hard swing.
      if I'm in deep grass just outside the green and need to go about 10 yards to the flag highest I'll pull out is a 56. Probably even go with a gap wedge. A 60 degree wedge you have to make perfect contact or you don't know where the ball is flying off to.

    • @yadda333
      @yadda333 Před 5 měsíci

      Well, you shouldn't really chip with a 60 degree wedge unless you need to fly the ball most of the way to the hole. I mean, it would need to be a specific scenario in which you need a high, soft shot. There's very little bounce on a 60, so it's very easy to duff and/or get way under the ball (leading to a little pop up out of longer grass that goes nowhere).

    Phil doesn't hold the hinge, he just doesn't let the club face pass the hands through the ball.

      I agree! Someone, a hater, is always trying to discount Phil's play. They show why it doesn't work; well they do not do it like Phil. Golfers that cannot make this shot have no idea where the bottom of their swing arc is. I have used this method for quite a while now and I love it. Very easy to judge distance. Also really like Phil's relaxed way of teaching. Phil doesn't talk about how many way's armatures screw up a golf shot for 15 minutes before he shows what he is teaching. I do not need to know 30 different ways that am's mess up a shot, just show me the friggin shot! Teach like Phil, cut to the chase!

    I prefer to use different clubs with less change in the swing. Between a 60 with no wrist doing 10m, I only need to add wrist action and go to a 48 to make it 50m. I also have 6 other defined yardage between those, all with the same size swing. For someone who doesn't have the touch that Phil does in feeling the length of the backswing, it's a much more consistent approach.

    What does he mean "the leading edge and the bounce remain constant"...??

    • @therealgolfsecrets
      @therealgolfsecrets  Před 19 hodinami +1

      Phil is teaching a leading edge chip, where the face of the club is hitting the ball first, and the bounce (bottom of the club) is hitting the ground after impact. In a bounce driven chip, the bottom of the club(the bounce) hits the ground first, then bounces into the ball. So Phil wants the leading edge and bounce to remain constant for as long as possible because he wants the club face to catch the ball first. If he were allowing the club head to travel faster than the hands/arms (like you do for a bounce driven chip), then the Leading Edge and degree of bounce would vary depending on how fast the hands released the clubhead before impact... I hope this helps. 🍻

      Got closer to the ball. Stick the heal up a bit. Started chipping much more crisply. Slow but steady progress.
      Still nowhere near where I was in 2014.

    Yep this swing is great for 75 yarders and in personally. My question is at what distances do you start going full with more release of the wrists/club? For example a 100 yarder can be a full 54 for me or I also like using like an 80% pitch wedge. But should I still hinge and hold for an 80% P wedge?

    • @therealgolfsecrets
      @therealgolfsecrets  Před 10 měsíci

      Well if you want the ball flight low and the ball to release and run on the green to a back pin then hinge and hold that 80% pw. If you want the ball to stop on a dime on the green then do your full 54. It all depends on what you want the ball to do.

    • @therealgolfsecrets
      @therealgolfsecrets  Před 10 měsíci +5

      The bounce will be used everytime the club head contacts the ground. The bounce keeps the leading edge from digging into the ground.

    • @therealgolfsecrets
      @therealgolfsecrets  Před 10 měsíci +1

      It really is whatever works the best for you. The industry is stuck on the no wrist break. I find it hard on the body (think Jason day). I utilize both methods but I'm 90% hinge. Nothing more enjoyable to me then a crisp effortless chip. Pete Cowen is a hinge style chipping coach on tour. He's working with Rory and a few others. Look up some of my Pete Cowen shorts and then come back and rewatch this video....You'll see a ton of Pete cowen in Phil Mickelsons chip.

    • @lindleybryce
      @lindleybryce Před 8 měsíci

      He’s using the 60 for bunker flops and chips. I think he is demonstrating you can rely on the bounce of this wedge for any shot. Obviously this wedge is the more challenging but you are correct it’s confusing.

    • @therealgolfsecrets
      @therealgolfsecrets  Před 8 měsíci +2

      No, they chip with anything from a open 60 to a 9 iron. It just depends on the shot. If they have alot of green to work with and they want the ball to run and release they could chip with a lower lofted club, like a 52 degree gap wedge for example. If they want the ball to land softer and stop quicker then a 60 degree would be used. Phil goes over all this in How to chip part 3. Go to Phil Mickelson's playlist on this channel and scroll down to find all of the chipping lessons from Phil.

The Saudis hostile buyout and takeover of pga tour players basically ruined golf all to whitewash the Saudi Arabian human rights violations.
      They are also buying up professional soccer. I think I saw where the NBA and NFL are possibly next on their list.
