An eraser is used for much more than fixing mistakes. An eraser can be used for mark-making as well. In this lesson, we look at four common erasers used for drawing. We discuss the positives and negatives of a rubber eraser, a gum eraser, a vinyl or plastic eraser, and the kneaded eraser.

You've really opened my eyes to how erasers can be used actively to create marks for art, not just for fixing mistakes.

Thank you! For someone new to the world of painting and drawing, this sort of video is extremely helpful in wading through the massive amount of tools that can be used and why you would use them.

Another great video from Matt. I love my kneaded eraser and also have a vinyl eraser close by for those tiny spaces.

Dear Matt, the summary along with the examples are just great to see how different erasers can be (and be used). Thank you so much for all your effort and easy to understand explanations. Buddy

I recently found out about the vinyl eraser that comes n pen forms. Treated myself to a set of em myself. Still on my first pen eraser as I like to call them. Probably my most fave new type of erasers to use. I plan on buying more of these to when i run out. Very handy. I recommend on giving vinyl erasers a try once to see if it fits your liking.

Same here no matter how much I try to protect them.
I even got a small wooden chest for mine and though it did protect them they also went hard and nearly impossible to mold

Thank you! Practical and to the point. Liked that you explain which are easier on the paper, too.

I have all of those erasers. Thanks for explaining what a plastic/vinyl eraser is. Most of my erasers I've collected at estate, garage or yard sales throughout the years. Even my electric/ battery eraser I found at a thrift store with box of refills for $5. It's the best!!! Kneaded erasers are my favorite too. Faber Castell and Generals are the best brands for them in my opinion.

Nope, I never went for my FAber Castell kneadable erasers, after I tried the LYRA kneadable, that comes in the small plastic box. It's probably the same amount inside, because it's a taller box, but it performs much better, holding it's shape way better, for erasing finer details than the Faber Castell can, as also creating finer and thus more highlights! It was suggested by a fellow Artist, and I didn't believe it would be better, until I tried it and found out,she was 100% right! I only buy these know

Best Kneadable: LYRA. Best eraser: Faber Castel 187120 (works for any pencil but excels erasing color pencils, Chalk pencils etc)/Tombow Dust Catch/Tombow Mono Plastic (these are the best for erasing any pencil but they excel on erasing Graphite/Charcoal) /Tombow Mono Zero 2.3mm (for detailed erasing, highlights etc).
These are THE best of the best.

I've never seen a Lyra kneaded eraser at a store in my area. Where do you get yours?
