My friends at Bernard's Tours invited me out for a full island tour of St. Maarten. The tour stopped at multiple places around St. Maarten, including Philipsburg, Oyster Bay, Orient Beach, Grand Case, Marigot, and the world-famous Maho Beach. Maho Beach is known for its location at the end of an airport runway, with the airplanes coming in just overhead. St. Maarten is the smallest landmass shared by two different countries, with one-half of the country (St. Maarten) being Dutch and the other half (St. Martin) being French.

We were there in 2019, so a little bit before COVID but after the devastation of Irma, and it was sad to see that it was just not the same. There was not a lot of anything going on at all then! But the little you've shown us today makes me happy to see that they are indeed recovering. I look forward to going there again soon. Thanks!

My wife and I almost built a house in St Maarten in 2007. Then the real estate crash of 2008 stopped us. We have always considered St Maarten our second home. We cried when Irma hit the island. We pray for their continued rebuilding.
I love St. Maarten. Such a beautiful place. It was sad to see the destruction that’s still around the island, but so happy they’re slowly getting back on their feet.

I last visited St. Maarten back in 2000 -- stayed at Divi Little Bay in a timeshare 2 BR unit. We loved both the Dutch and French side (2000 was our 3rd visit to the Island). Then, we booked 2017 and luckily, took out travel insurance. Well, Hurricane Irma struck in 2017 and you know the rest of the story. Haven't been back since and miss seeing the two sides. We are planning a return visit for late April 2024 so we'll see what happens. Nothing booked yet, but airlines aren't cooperating with schedules until we fly out of MIA, which isn't as easy for us. Fingers crossed no hurricane ruins our future plans.

I have only been there once, from Carnival Valor when she was a new ship, February 2006. We got a day pass to Divi Little Bay Beach Resort, on the Dutch Side, not far from the port. It was beautiful. Never made it anywhere near Maho Beach, never knew it was a thing. Would go back again if I find another cruise that does both Sint Maarten and Saint Thomas again.
Love the idea of them making it a jump off point, easier access to the Southern Caribbean. Brilliant, I'll definitely book a Royal from there!
St. Thomas and St. Maarten on the same itinerary is amazing. You must go again and see it all!

CruisePlum is a great place to find low rates for solo cruisers. I would recommend booking directly through the cruise line once you find a cruise you like. Most require you to pay a deposit up front and then full payment is required within a couple months of sailing.

This is a very informative video! Props! I just watched like 17 videos about this island and learned nothing so yours was refreshing to see. We are going there in November after thanksgiving and seeing saba and Gustavia. I'm really excited about all the french caribbean food we will eat. Anything to look out for that wasn't in this video?

Lot of folks get hung up on Maho Beach, which is cool and all, but the entire island is beautiful and must be explored. Have a great time!

He Zach, Tampa here. The Caribbean is always my favorite cruising. But the islands always seem to get slammed with a storm, big or small, and they bounce back stronger. St. Maarten is one of my favorites. Thanks for some memories.

Thanks for watching! We were driving by another excursion at that point, we weren’t actually wearing helmets ourselves. I think they were doing an ATV tour of parts of the island.

My audio is always normalized. My voice is unfortunately lower in some clips due to all the wind. It was super windy and that degraded my audio a bit. The hazards of vlogging on an island.
The beach is very nice, the other areas, not so much!

They said once hurricane Irma passed wednesday september 6 2017 around 10am st martin was a lawless land until sunday 12 pm the same week, thats when the french swat police and the army started landing from France.
Wow that’s crazy! What a scary time that had to be for the residents. 😞
Do those shoes dry quickly?
Yes! I was worried about them staying wet after the beach but they dried very quick in the sun and heat.
