  • If you were able to see my previous video on the i1Studio Software used with the Colormunki Photo, I stated that the Black and White print results were a tiny bit greenish!
    Well I proceeded to create a Strictly Black and White profile which is available as an option with the new i1Studio software.
    Here are my results.
    Next I will do a step by step demo on how to use this new software coupled with the existing Colormunki Photo hardware Spectrophotometer.

    Been using the color munki display for about 18 months to keep my monitor fully calibrated but once I finally invest in a Canon Pro 100S I'll definately budget for this new X rite system ☺ Look forward to your thorough tests Jose.

    Hi Jose, I'm planning on buying a colormunki photo to calibrate an ET-8550 for black and white photographs. Is it possible to do it ? Through i1Studio ? In other terms, is the "B/W print" option in "printer calibration" avaliable for such an old device as the colormunki ? Thanks ! Romain

      you can: I am using an "old" Colormunki Photo and it is compatible to the new i1Studio sofware and is recognized as such.

    Is a custom ICC profile generated with RGB Patches sufficient for producing neutral monochrome prints, or is a specific custom ICC profile generated with b&w patches needed for that?

      A regular profile is more than enough in my book.

    Jose do you have the new i1 Studio software and Color Munki software loaded on the same machine and partition. Just curious about any possible software conflicts between the two programs. Thanks.

    Hi Jose, always enjoy watching your videos and try to learn something new (still a beginner). I have a Pro-100 and have been struggling a bit with making BW prints. I tried (mostly with Canon luster and MOAB Juniper pater) BW mode with X/Y adjustment and paper ICC way with manual CMY adjustments as well (got numbers dialed in pretty close but still still see some color casts. My question is, do you think I'd really benefit by investing in i1Studio specifically for making BW prints (with pro-100) or would I be better off investing in Canon pro-1000? Or would you recommend a different printer/route altogether (again especially for BW) Thank you.

    • @cheo1949
      @cheo1949  Před 4 lety

      You really should be getting some pretty neutral results using B^W mode.
      You should also be getting constant identical results on any given paper type. A custom profile is always going to provide you with a better result for a specific Printer-Ink-Paper combination. BUT be aware that you are NOT printing with a profile when you print using B&W mode. That's why you end up having to dial in adjustments. I get neutral results with just a RGB profile and printing in regular mode.

    I normaly use the paper profiles from the manufacturer, in this case I am using Hahnemühle FineArt papers. Do you think I will get better results creating my own profile using i1Studio ? Should I buy it ? thanks

      The only advantage would be that their at created on their printer and you would be making them on your own. Individuals within models do differ.

      There is no difference in the printing process for BW vs Color. You use the same identical profile and settings.

    Thanks for the video! do the Canon ipf pro series printers need this kind of calibration or the internal calibration will do?

    • @cheo1949
      @cheo1949  Před 5 lety +1

      All photo printers need good ICC profiles. Internal calibration has absolutely nothing to do with profiles. Internal calibration simply brings the printer to a matching factory standard. So if you line up several of the same model, after calibrating, they will I output identical. Without calibration they would not.

      A profile will not convert your image to BW. You convert to BW In your editor. In fact I never make a so called BW profile. If your normal profile you make is good it will be able to print perfectly well color or BW.

  • @TheLightworkz
    @TheLightworkz Před 6 lety

    Senor Rodriguez in the video you mentioned that the software wanted to print the same first page as when you were doing the color profile. So my question is, is it exactly the same page or do I have to print it again? I didn't want to skew my results if it was indeed a different color patch since the other 2 B&W correction pages would be based off of that one for the B&W profiling.
    Another thing I noticed when saving the BW profile was Xrite recommendation to use Perceptual. I know you recommended using relative when people are the subject matter. So wanted to get your thoughts.
    Click Save profile. Your printer profile is ready! Be sure to use it each time you print using this printer and paper combination. When you select this profile in Adobe® applications, use the "Perceptual" rendering intent to achieve your desired look.

    • @cheo1949
      @cheo1949  Před 6 lety +2

      It appears to be the same page! So I theory you should be to reuse it??? Maybe?? And once scanned it would produce the second which you print and scan and then the third one. Rendering intent is all up to you. Just remember that perceptual shifts everything so it fits inside the gamut and relative only shifts or squeezes the out of gamut colors so they are brought in.

      @@cheo1949 sorry. I watched twice and missed it both times I guess. Didn't expect greenish b&w prints from a professional level printer. We have a Pro4000s at work but it is only used for CAD drawings.

    • @cheo1949
      @cheo1949  Před 4 lety

      I simply mentioned the Pro-1000 only because this "FIX" is NOT just for it but for any printer that is capable of monochrome printing. Meaning it uses blacks plus gray inks. It was also mainly about being able to use of the i1Studio Software with the older COLORMUNKI and being able to create a so called B&W profile. Which simply performs a "tweak" on top of the one we create for normal color work.
