    I worked on the racetracks in California for many years. Not many respect Baffert, but everyone does respect Art. He's a true horseman. Baffert is a buffoon.

      +adrian gonzales Steve Coburn sold his 30 percent (minority) stake in Chrome to Taylor Made Farm after Chrome arrived home from Newmarket in mid-July 2015. When Chrome retires in 2017, he will return to the good care of the Taylors in Nicholasville, Kentucky, one of the most beautiful places on earth. Everyone there loves Chrome, and that is where he recuperated from the bone bruising that was identified when he was vetted for the sale. Chrome will be welcomed for a 30-day vacation at the Farm after his brief quarantine this week!

      The Taylors are also true horsemen. They believed in him before he won The Kentucky Derby, offering 5 or 6 million for controlling interest before that race. The offer was prompted in part by their analysis of his pedigree.

    That is the healthiest I have ever seen California Chrome. Fabulous job by the entire team of Art Sherman (and son, Steve) ,and Victor for his amazing ride ! The time off last year to relax and rejuvenate this amazingly gifted horse, really has made California Chrome a formidable force !! Can't wait to see Chrome when he returns to California !!

    ...and how many horses would have tolerated that saddle slipping and almost a race bucking strap ~ what a special showing Chrome delivered; didn't appear to miss a beat and Victor rode flawlessly. Kudos to Art Sherman for his commitment, confidence, & insights. A thrill for all to see today! Look forward to the rest of 2016 with this Big Boy.

      That's what Victor Espinoza said. The horse had a big chunk taken out of his hoof and only lost by 1 1/4 lengths. Spectacular Bid lost the Belmont in much the same way, and he was favored to win the Triple Crown.

    when a horse is truly loved by owners,trainers they run for that love to parts unknown....just like seabisquit the jockey was to big the trainer to old and the owner to dumb to know the difference....but what they had was a true love for that horse and seabisquit ran to parts unknown for that love and he was they said to small neck to big and legs that had a eggbeater gate....well i rest my case....its love....!!!! look back at all the greats that had not much pedigree and draw backs who ran like the wind when nobody thought they could....California Chrome is one of these....I can always tell when its LOVE they run to parts unknown for that love..!

    If the Triple Crown was for 3 years old and up, truly great horses would have the title, California Chrome is just one of those sturdy horses that just get better and better as the get older like Wise Dan. Since he's become a 5 year old he is so much better, I don't think that he could have one the Belmont as a perfect health horse because he wasn't ready for it, he is a great horse, as a three year old, he just wasn't capable. Now I think he could win the Breeders Cup and race into his 6 or 7 year old season.

    At least 10 other persons have purchased stakes in California Chrome. Both majority owner Perry Martin and minority owner Taylor Made Farm each sold 10 percent of their share in California Chrome. Breeders are expected to send their best mares to Chrome, which entitles them to two lifetime breeding rights as well as a percentage of his earnings over the rest of his career. Chrome's now pointed to the Pacific Classic in August and the Breeders' Cup at Santa Anita Park on November 5. It remains to be seen whether Chrome will race in the Pegasus Stakes in early January 2017.

    Art Sherman was not afraid to take his horse out of the US. Bob Baffert would not do that for AP. Sherman for the win!

    • @Venckman
      @Venckman Před 8 lety +4

      +debra donley Baffert's never been shy about bringing horses to the Dubai World Cup. He finished third today. With Pharoah, he didn't have that option. The horse switched ownership immediately after the BC, and the new ownership wanted him retired to stud. Dubai was never an option, and it had zero to do with Baffert.

    • @RedBev59
      @RedBev59 Před 8 lety +2

      +Killer Bees Wasn't Bob's decision. He's only the trainer. OWNER says to keep racing or to retire. Owner also says WHERE to race the horse......as if they'd know. AP was bought after his Derby run. BEFORE he even won the TC. Too bad. Cause they could have gotten TRIPLE the amount after AP won the TC. then the BCC. oh well. AND to think how he'd run as a grown 5yr old....holy cow.

    • @stinknbee
      @stinknbee Před 8 lety +2

      +RedBev59 Yes I know all that.! What I meant is that I don't think Ahmed Zayat would have done anything without consulting with Baffert. I don't think trainers of his caliber are there just to stand around and click a stopwatch. :-\

    • @RedBev59
      @RedBev59 Před 8 lety

      +Killer Bees Yes, you're right. I think Bob and Zayat had a good relationship, too. so he'd listen to Bob. BUT he wasn't Zayat's any longer after he won the Derby. He was sold. Zayat only could race him until the end of December. They had race plans so Dubai was out. I would have loved to see AP in Dubai. Shared Belief, Beholder too. They're being wasted staying In the same State more or less. AP full grown at age 5 would have been something to see. wow

    • @stinknbee
      @stinknbee Před 8 lety

      +RedBev59 Shared Belief died last year. He had a really bad colic and they could not save him. 😩I don't know if you knew that or not. I'm personally glad that American Pharoah is done racing. I think racing just because you can, and the horse earns more status, money, etc., is risky business. One misstep and a horse's career, or worse, life is finished. Remember Ruffian. I just think California Chrome already proved himself a worthy champion, and I don't understand the need to keep on racing him. I guess I would rather see him at stud, so we can see his offspring. I'm excited to see what his foals will do. I think about all the horses who have won one, two or all of the "big three" races and now their "kids" are doing well. I would really be heart-broken if California Chrome's story ended on the track.

    If our prize-money were as weak as it is in the UK you would see many more Australian horses racing overseas. Even in winter we have the rich Queensland carnival.... you don't even have flat racing in winter there. You get to see very few good Australian horses - you will
    generally only see sprinters due to the world sprint series, and even then most of our good ones will not go to Royal Ascot. Even Buffering and Chautauqua (both geldings, but, as you say, they have an advantage over entires..... what??) will not go to Royal Ascot. They will race in Honkers and then come home again. Winx is in the top half dozen middle distance horses in the world at the moment, but she has run her grand final in the $3m Doncaster Handicap. A very few are purchased by Coolmore and the like to race in the UK. Add to that the sprinters who have owned Royal Ascot sprint races and you should thank your lucky stars we have such good prize-money. In fact, you should be thankful that both ANZ’s AND Japan’s prize-money is good. There are a host of exceptional Japanese horses that would have cleaned up UK middle distance and staying events (Gentildonna, Vodka, TM Opera O). Again, Japan’s prize-money is massive and their racing fairly insular.

    Be good to see him go around in Europe over 10f against the best horses at that distance. The "World Cup" when on tapeta was a farce. Now it's set up for the best 10f US horse. The best horses race on turf.

      +B Gardiner in America......the BEST, highest paid races are on DIRT. REAL dirt in the USA. Our best athletic horses in America are good on both actually BUT they prefer dirt. Euro horses can never do good on real dirt tracks over in USA. they don't have real dirt in Euro. too bad. It's a natural footing for any horse. It's too bad the only option they DO have is Turf. shame.

    • @bgardiner3354

      +RedBev59 In most years the highest rated
      horses are turf horses…. And are generally from Europe. Dirt is good for speedway racing
      in my opinion. Catastrophic injury rates in racehorses are significantly higher
      on dirt.Anti-inflammatory painkillers like phenylbutazone has been propping up
      the US racing industry for years and it’s starting to show.
