    You saved the day, my husband was getting out the sander and I would have had a lot more painting and staining to do! 2 thumbs up!

    This is a great tip! Bending the hinges have worked for me most of the time, but I have a door where bending is not the fix. I'm going to try this today!
    Thanks!

    I'm going to try the washer solution for my interior door. I like it: it's simple and you don't cut or sand anything down. Thanks for the idea!

    This is a great idea! Will save me a lot of hassle, fumbling with wood shims.

  • @michaeladams9537
    @michaeladams9537 Před 8 lety +1

    Very helpful. I had to use shims instead of washers because my door has 3 hinges so I would need to adjust 2 of them at slightly different amounts. I had to raise my door. So I used thin shims for the middle hinge and slightly thicker ones for the bottom one. For me, it was a lot easier to take the door off by popping the pins.
    That caulking idea is a neat trick. I didn't really need it here, but there are lots of times I might, so I'll keep this trick in mind. Thanks for all of your help!

    STEVE!!!! Thank you very much. I almost ruined a nice solid core door by gouging out wood in the hinge mortise area. This worked TONS better. I actually used FINISH WASHERS to give a bit more depth. THANKS!

    it sounds like the hinge side of the jam isn't square to the stud, make sure the jamb on both sides of the door are square with each other, also check the door stop the inch and a half piece that runs around the door jam, make sure the door isn't bumping that on the hinge side, if it is take a block and hammer and tap it back just a hair, good luck hope it helped.

  • @wichitafixit
    @wichitafixit  Před 10 lety +2

    This will work with a three hinge door, this is a for a door that need little adjustment, 9 out of 10 times the first thing someone will do is start cutting off the door, try this first.

    came up with this myself yesterday but corner of door still hits floor a bit and hinge beginning to stick out too much now. This will work up to a certain amount then out comes the planer.

    Nice trick, instead of using a door hinge shim you used 3 galvanized washers, ingeniously simple.

    • @wichitafixit
      @wichitafixit  Před 4 lety +1

      Yes, just depends on which way you need to move it on where you need to put the washers.

    • @joelhill4107
      @joelhill4107 Před 7 lety

      Ya, most definitely!!! This guy doesn't have a clue!! Bent the top hinge to open up the gap, if you need to rack the door more, bend the bottom hing to close up, thus racking the door more. Makes way too much sense!!!

    • @wichitafixit
      @wichitafixit  Před 7 lety +1

      heyimandrea there's a limited distance to adjust the door this way, in some instances you can take a Dremel and take Material off the plate as needed high, low, front or back.
