    Awesome video, had 2 commercial medical doors sticking, watched your vid this morning and fixed 2 doors today with your shim technique. My boss wanted me to take the doors down and plain them. Saved me so much time! Thanks

      @@drewinstallshardware tried showing supervisor this new hack, and he didn’t want hear it just ignored me, I guess cause I went above his recommendation of planing down the door and re-staining. Oh well at least I have a hack that will save time and effort, thanks man!

    Hey man thank you for making videos like this, I’m a union carpenter apprentice and I’ve done doors and hardware but not so much but but watch more of your videos really help me get better. Keep it up

      Getting good at doors and hardware would be my #1 suggestion for younger guys getting into carpentry. Very valuable skill. Learn to read and understand the instructions. Great way to make a living. 😎

    Drew great information. My first thought was to shim the bottom out to pivot the top back but the way you explained it makes perfect sense.

      Definitely I would start there if I can spread it a little and get the same result but the camera doesn’t quite capture how bad this one was. But you’re absolutely right that spreading the bottom would still move the door the way we want it to move 😎

    Wow, great idea to put your shim in the middle. I will have to try that. I love the magnetic strip shims.... Thanks!

    Great video. Like another commenter said, I was expecting a shim behind the bottom leaf. Shimming out the top in the way you've done works a lot better in this scenario. On old wooden casement windows I've seen hinge mortises on the jamb cut at angle to alter the margins, creating the same effect as the zip tie, but wouldn't have thought to try it on a new door install. Thanks for passing on some knowledge, much appreciated.

    Hey man, thank you for your videos. I work CE in the Air Force and I’m basically a handy man fixing things like this. I watched a few of your videos and they’re very informative. I subbed for future uses. Just a request to help me improve, can you make a video or explain how you would tackle taking out stripped screwheads out of hinges and doors. I come across multiple doors where the screws are stripped on the hinges which make the job much longer. Thank you.

      Thanks so much for subscribing. That’s a great idea for a video on fixing stripped screw. Will try to get one out soon. Until then…quick fix is usually drilling the score out with a 3/16 bit. Depending on the circumstance that’s usually where I start. But will get a video soon. 😎

      Oh ya! Not a beginner move and can cause more harm than good but yes it’s definitely in the toolbox. 😎

      It’s a Husky brand 2200-Lumen Tripod light. It comes with a tripod but spins off of it and the back side has the magnets. I really like it. It’s rechargeable also with USB-C. And only like 50 dollars at Home Depot 👍

    Great tip, what if the door is sagging? How would you lift it to have an even gap at the top of the door?

    • @drewinstallshardware
      @drewinstallshardware  Před 2 měsíci +1

      I think I would start the same way. Shim the top hinge. Pull the top hinge back , or spread the bottom hinge. You basically get the same result.

    So... Say you had a fire rated door; what are you using to shim that, and is that functionally any different? Also, does the zip tie not wear down over time, or is that not really an issue since it shouldnbe tight enough to not move/rub on the metal?

    • @drewinstallshardware
      @drewinstallshardware  Před měsícem

      Ya on a fire rated door you need to use metal shims. I will sometimes run a modified truss head screw into the hinge backing plate wherever I need to shim it. That way it’s metal and also doesn’t move if they drop the door.

    Hi . can i pull the pin out and bend knuckle

    • @drewinstallshardware
      @drewinstallshardware  Před měsícem

      I wouldn’t recommend bending the hinge because it can void your manufacturers warranty.
