    that "he should go back to where he came from" really hurt when one takes into account clark is not only an immigrant to earth, but that he's also a stand-in for jewish immigrants fleeing from persecution (for those who don't know, the holocaust is compared to the destruction of krypton and the extinction of kryptonians) in europe during the 30s and 40s... The second an immigrant is perceived as a wrong'un, they get told to go back to their home country. And he was RAISED HERE, this is all he knows. It fucking hurts, man

    • @Falcun21
      @Falcun21 Před 10 měsíci +1

      Refugee, NOT immigrant. Immigrants leave for greener pastures so they can build a BETTER life than what was available where they were. Refugees leave because staying where they were would result in imminent death. They leave to have any chance at life. There is a difference. Superman has always been a refugee, sent away from his home to save his life. Just like Moses.

      @@borjankosarac3645It has been a staple of history for weaker peoples to be overtaken, overthrown, and thrown out by stronger ones. I read many years ago where they asked OLD Indians/Native Americans about the White Man taking their land and they responded that their land was taken just as their people had taken the land from the previous inhabitants. Losing land was a way of life way back then. You could only hold the land you were strong enough to defend. White folk acting like they've always belonged in America comes from the fact that the Natives lost the Indian Wars. They fought and died and thus lost ownership. To the victor go the spoils.

    One point in Lois' favor is that she had it on the very top of her bag when she went into work. And I don't think she got the heads-up that Clark wouldn't be there until she got the text from him.

    This episode does a great job of responding to the assumption that Superman's powers and ingrained selflessness make it impossible for him to be faced with relatable challenges. Anyone can relate to taking on too much and pushing oneself too hard, and Superman's selflessness combined with his awareness of his powers is what drives him to do that. He has to learn restraint, and it's going to be a lifelong challenge to accept that he can't be everywhere all the time without burning himself out. If anything, it's darker versions of Superman who have it too easy, since they're too "cool" to save cats out of trees.
    Adding to the theory that the General is Sam Lane, Lois's reaction when Clark said he had to find the General...yeah, I think we might be unpacking that soon.
    And indeed, Jack Quaid was absolutely on fire this episode. Really showcasing his range.
    Have they not mentioned Queen before? I thought they had, but it may have just been a mention of Star City or something, or maybe I'm just misremembering something else. Vicki Vale was definitely foreshadowed. She's normally pretty pro-Batman, but Batman might just be a local cryptid at this point; who knows?

    A thought I had about Clark's lack of balance and crashing into things in this episode is that hearing is associated with balance, and simething that affects your hearing can often affect your balance too. Of course, Clark was also exhausted, but if his balance was off that would only make it worse
    I think that's what Lois was worried about. As you said, Clark has to learn that he can't save everyone. So Lois was trying to tell him to take a break and get some rest, without making it seem like she was asking him to give up. It just came out wrong, and ended up sending an even nore hurtful message. Which Lois recognized immediately. In the next episode she tells Jimmy how guilty she feels.

  • @StareachValcin
    @StareachValcin Před 10 měsíci +6

    Superman has had it rough in this episode. Discovering super hearing and being overwhelmed with hearing people in trouble and trying to find the general, being sleep deprived from helping people, making a mistake while saving Mist which was set up by the general to make Superman look bad to the public, getting outnumbered and attacked by the villains he faced earlier in the series, and Superman getting captured. Superman didn't deserve the bad things that happened to him in this episode when all he's done is help people. It upsets me how easily the people turned on Superman for something so trivial after all the good he's done. It's sadly true of people in real life. I also don't like that Lois has doubts because of the evil Superman footage that she has, and it's dangerous that she has it and the kryptonite on her person, when they could easily ruin Clark's life if they fall into the wrong hands. Vicky Vale also shows her inner Gotham by just choosing to see Superman as a menace rather than the hero he is. She clearly lost sight of journalistic integrity when she only focused on the bad testimony against Superman while ignoring the good testimonials. While it was hard to watch Superman lose at the end of the episode, at least Superman showed that even in a weakened state, he was powerful enough to defeat most of task force X. I honestly hope that the next part finally explains what zero day really was, while also revealing who the general really is. Odds are that he's Sam Lane, Lois' father, which may lead to Lois confronting him to save Superman and deal with her own trust issues. I especially hope that Superman wins back the trust of the people. Superman is a beacon of hope that the people come to trust.

    • @erikolson4148
      @erikolson4148 Před 10 měsíci +2

      There's also a chance, if only a small one, that he and the rest of the villains (minus Ivo/Parasite and Deathstroke) will help Lois and Jimmy to free and save Superman after Mist/Kyle reflects on how Superman had shown them kindness at one point or another (Leslie Willis/Livewire when Slade Wilson/Deathstroke damaged her suit and was going to die and cause even more immeasurable damage to Metropolis until Superman removed the power source crystal from her harness while saying he was there to help; Rory/Heat Wave when he was trying to tell her he wasn't kidnapping anyone, didn't physically attack her and said he only wanted to help; and Kyle McDougal(other sources say his last name is "Nimbus" 🤔🤷‍♂️)/Mist when he saved him from being run over by a truck and when he told him that (admittedly false) story about his escaping and trying to save his sister (could be half-sister 🤔🤷‍♂️) Siobhan McDougal/Silver Banshee and his best friend Albert/Rough House, his reply was "I can't let you do that, not alone" 🥺😔) and they might all end up becoming actual heroes. Of course that might just be wishful thinking on my part, but, it's a good thought though, right 🤔🤷‍♂️?

    • @erikolson4148

      Somehow I have a feeling that Clark will say something like: "General, you have me now, just let the prisoners all go, no one else needs to get hurt because of me" and likely mention the promise he made to Kyle about freeing them, leaving all of them, sans Parasite, baffled at why someone they just beat the snot out of would be so altruistic/giving and compassionate to them 🥺😣😔. After they're outside, Ivo will most likely verbally mock him by saying what Superman said to him that night at Ivo Tower, "Dr Ivo, look around you. Is it _that hard to believe_ that some people *just want to help* ?" 🥺😔. The others would likely remember the times when all Superman wanted to do was help them (listed in one of my above comments) and feel immense guilt (especially Kyle but even more so than before) 😔. (I know it's possibly a bit of a stretch, but, a guy can dream, can't he 😓?)

Like some from cities don't take too kindly to someone like me or Clark who are from farms in Kansas. I've even heard a few saying i should go back where i came from behind my back.
    I've often wondered if or how far super senses would go to making a person crazy. Like Clark's having problems or going nuts from one city's worth of people. Imagine hearing everything around the world at once. Let alone other senses being super strong. Like smell.

    I wonder if the show is setting Parasyte up as the big bad of this segment, He's clearly in a league of his own in regards to Task Force X and it's shown that the only way he can be controlled is via the shock collar, which with Ivo's ego would be something he would like to get rid of since no one controls Ivo.
    Another thing is that in the first appearance of the Parasyte suit, he could only absorb kinetic energy while this version of the suit seems to be able to absorb energy merely by touch. The only one who would have enough energy to overload Parasyte is Superman.

    Y'all talking about people turning on Supes for what they perceive, in Lois & Clark, he was being hated on and actually put in jail because it was believed that every time he used his powers, it caused the city to get hotter. Perry's headline was "Super Feat = Super Heat?" Lex had a nuclear plant that was heating up the aquifer under the city on purpose. When it was exposed, he had to pay to have the problem fixed even though it was perfectly under control the whole time and was all part of his plan to make the public hate Superman. He wasn't happy about that. But, yeah, the people were PISSED and the DA filed an injunction against Superman for him to not use his powers and he got contempt of court for using his powers to stop a gunman directly outside the courtroom doors. He got put in jail, mugshots, group photos with the cops, everything.

    I’m juggling various theories for how the next episode will resolve this cliffhanger, and the aftermath in the season finale; there’s so many balls in the air, how will they be caught? I’ve no doubt they *will* be, the question is what will come of it…
    What do you think of Vicki Vale being redesigned to look much like classic Lois, but characterised to essentially lack her morals as we have them? It’s a bit of “never meet your heroes”, but in general it continues the thread of last episode where the League of Loises being more successful *did not* mean they were an ideal to strive for… Hell, Vale makes this version of Cat Grant almost likeable; I wonder if Lois will write an article to counter it that Perry will approve in her name though. Which leads me to…
    The fact that Kyle/the Mist looks genuinely regretful of what he did, makes me wonder (not that I’m holding out hope to exactly get it) if Superman’s compassion that he’s shown for the Task Force X draftees will pay off. Obviously Slade and Ivo will *never* turn, but none of the others seem truly evil; could they all help each other? Will Clark helping them earlier (and helping now) lead to them fighting alongside him against the General? Would they be convinced to get interviewed by Lois? I’m absolutely aware that it’s not something I should expect, but it’s at least fun to theorise.

    This episode was hard and intense, even more so than episode 5. Poor Clark... everything just went so wrong for him...
    I noticed that Alex and the General's words about Superman almost perfectly echo each other's. Alex says "Superman's no hero, he's the end of the world." While the General says "You're no hero, you're the end of the world." This could either mean that Alex is involved with Task Force X. Or, it could be simple foreshadowing for Alex becoming the Lex Luthor we all know. Both Lex Luthor and Sam Lane have strong anti-alien sentiments even in the comics, so them sharing the same opinion almost word-for-word isn't surprising. Although I'm convinced Alex is more spiteful and petty compared to the General who driven by a sense of duty.
    Of course, Alex could easily still be a reference to Alex Allston, who was one of the people who adopted the Parasite moniker in the comics. But this episode definitely provided more evidence for the "Alex is Lex Luthor" theory.
    In speaking of Alex, Vicki Vale certainly may have gotten a promotion at the Gotham Gazette, but I'm suspecting that her long-term prospects have been damaged. Using the Daily Planet like this is certainly a way to burn bridges in the journalism field.
