🎯 Key points for quick navigation:
DFM a reduces components and processes in design for easier manufacture and assembly
DFM a process includes conceptualization, analysis, redesign, and conclusion steps
Components and processes are evaluated using elimination questions to identify suspects
Redesign can be considered for suspect components or processes identified during analysis
Integration of components can help eliminate suspects and improve product functionality
The final step of DFM a involves creating a report with key information and action points from the process

Are welded parts considered sub-assemblies or one part...Invariably u cannot avoid welding unless u opt for casting or aditive manufacturing which have major tradeoffs

Second question about material ... the way I ask the question is, "for functional reasons, does the part need to be of a specific material that is different from the material of other/previous parts?" This is a material properties question. For example, if the part must conduct electricity (i.e. ground plane), then it must be a metal i.e. copper. Please check out www.DFMA.com for more details.

I suppose the 'combined components' could also be defined as an assembly whose intended purpose can largely be carried out by it being an assembly rather than just components.
