Open relationship usually have some ground rules agreed upon by the partners (ex: disclosure of other partners, using protection with others, veto rights, etc). Violating those agreed upon rules may be regarded as cheating.

Simple its because of arrogance. You live with your girl then she can see all your minor flaws thinking you don't know anything. Think of the times of rebelling against your parents and it ending poorly. At the end of the day it's better to cut your loses as either they will grow tired of being sorry or will sabotage you moving on for drama.
