    What a lovely harvest! I had 3 questions for you: 1) Do you rotate your crate towers at all to equalize sun exposure? 2) I have a basket of strawberries from last year that were delicious, but this year, the fruit taste a lot less sweet and more watery. Any thoughts on what this might be? I was thinking not enough sun, but I'm not sure. 3) Is that a cucumber in the pot with the strawberries???

    • @CaliKim29
      @CaliKim29  Před 3 lety

      Hi Marie - I don't rotate my towers, but you certainly can if you like! Make sure your strawberry plants are getting plenty of sun and regular fertilizing for sweet strawberries. And yes, I did pop a cucumber in! Thanks for watching, have a great weekend!

    Hi Cali, I’m a new subscriber and a mother of #9 I love watching your videos with my kids. I have a section in my garden that previous owners placed river stone rocks and planted citrus trees ( which have not produced in five years) I’m guessing due to the palm trees shading this area. Once I attempt to transplant the citrus trees can I plant strawberries , raspberries , blackberries in this area if river rocks are covering area?

    I followed your instructions two years ago on my strawberry tower and I’ve got my best production so far this year and I think the key was regular worm tea and I also hand pollinated every flower with a small stiff paintbrush and I think I had 100% pollination. I saw that tip on a tomato video and I thought I would try it with strawberries and it is 100% true. One question is how did the snails and slugs get in those crates? I’ve pulled out about 30 of them

    • @ecaterinastroikin3873

      I had an awful experience with snails on my balcony-garden last year.. I’m guessing they came from either some compost I used which must have had snail eggs.. or somehow by birds/pets I don’t know but it was horrible finding all those snails everywhere and in the soil 🤢 traumatic

    Quick question: I got some bare root June bearing Strawberries and planted them out in April. They don't get more than maybe 3 hours direct sunlight then rest of the day shade. So far all I have gotten is runners, and I cut those off.
    Are they going to produce berries next year?

    • @CaliKim29
      @CaliKim29  Před 3 lety +1

      Glad you enjoyed the video, Tazmeen! If you planted June bearing bare root strawberries, you won’t have a harvest the first year, as they take time to get established. If you planted everbearing varieties you will miss the early summer harvest, but you should have some strawberries to eat in late summer or early fall, depending on how long they take to get established. Enjoy your berries!

    • @CaliKim29
      @CaliKim29  Před 3 lety

      Hi April, Chandler berries are a June bearing berry, you should see some berries in early to mid summer. They produce one crop per year for 4-6 weeks then are done until the following year. Strawberry flowers have both male and female parts, and are capable of self pollinating (wind and rain can move the pollen around) but often this results in uneven pollination and misshaped fruit as I showed in the video. It works best when the flowers are pollinated by bees for best shaped and largest fruit. Thanks for stopping by!
