It's OK Caleb, most of us get it ! I am an avid DIYer and projects take time, money and resources when you are doing a major restoration. You're doing a great job on the restoration and the videos ! All this effort is worth it ! And you will reap its benefits plus the satisfaction few achieve in their lifetimes ! Praises to all your progress !
I agree with Bonnie French 100%. It all makes sense to me.
♥️😊👍
Agree! These projects take like 4x longer than expected… way more than a new build.
AMEN !
Very interesting Caleb very nice huge project I'm sure you will get it done eventually just enjoy the learning experience
We have loved watching you bring this stunning house back to life! And, boy, do we understand after restoring an 1898 Victorian. But to watch the beauty of a period home return is worth the wait, money, surprises-ugh-, tears, and bandages. Thank you!
I found this episode very interesting Kaleb! Those of us who have been here from the beginning and are here for the entire journey with you understand that every week is not going to give us major renovations done. Just seeing the amount of trim you are preparing for the mansard restoration shows what a daunting task it will be! I also enjoyed seeing some of those interior rooms again, it’s been a minute! Keep up the good work!
I’ve been following you since the beginning and was so tickled when you finished the bathroom. I appreciate your conservative approach to getting the mansard roof right. It’s a huge project of which you’ve been funding, planning, and working on for a few years now. I’m excited that the finish line is finally in sight!!
After almost 44 years, we are still working on our 1884 Queen Anne Victorian, and loving every minute of it. It is so inspiring to see that you value the same ideas of protecting history that we do. God Bless you!❤
Where can we see pictures of your house?
Wow, that is some dedication!
I enjoy when you change it up sometimes. It's fun to see some of the house again and hear about different things that are going on or need to be done. Giving us a tour of the inside mansard area was enlightening. Never feel bad that you aren't putting out a certain kind of video because it's all interesting.
I enjoy a bit of variety, and it was fun (and interesting) to see the other rooms again. You are fortunate to have a large amount of interior space to do your painting. You are doing the right thing, being conservative about 'ripping things out'. I hope one day, when you are in your 60s, you can look back and be comforted by the fact you restored this roof/dormer area properly. I love those Victorian interior pocket shutters! I've seen them on houses in other parts of the country, and they make so much sense. Plus I'm with you in your appreciation for beautiful wood. Look forward to your update next week! :)
I know restoration is a slow process but you are doing great. It looks fabulous!
I don't have enough life left to restore an old house, but you make me wish I did!
Same here!
Thanks for the update - by doing things the way you do, you're not only doing it right, but by sharing your steps, you're educating us, which is much appreciated. Can't wait to see the work begin on the roof!
Hoping winter stays away until you get more progress on the mansard. An interesting video this week
You are doing the job of many. You are doing a great job. The ol gal is happy in your care ❤
You should be so proud of yourselves, it's looking amazing. And your are so right about the parlor, gorgeous 😍
I understand the time line on the mansard is long and getting all the custom profiles cut. I will be so excited for you when it finally goes together and is tight and dry added bonus it will be beautiful. Double bonus its going to really make all your hard work show and the house become a real jewel on the street.
I'm excited once that roof gets addressed things can progress rather well on the interior... which I know you are excited about... so I can wait... it'll be so nice though to have that roof fixed up and back to a pristine state... can't wait.
Glad you did an update. There are rooms that I had wondered about. I'm glad that you gave us a little tour. It's easy to forget about the maids stairwell and the library. Also it helps to see the new problems you're having like with that one dormer. I honestly would appreciate more updates. Like every couple months. Can't wait to see the work for the roof. Have a great day.
I have been paying attention since the beginning but haven’t had time to really follow closely, so update videos like this are really great to kind of catch up and see what a been going on!
Thanks Kaleb.
As someone who watches (and often rewatches) these every week, my feedback is that this is one of the best videos on the channel. This is definitely something I hope you do more often!
I agree!
I know (and expect) that most of your projects cannot be completed in 1 week (before the next episode). However, there have been a few times that I've thought, "why is he doing this 1 thing, when he could be finishing the other thing?" With this video, it shows how you are working to complete the main thing, while also working on other things.... at the same time.... and that they will eventually line up as a completed project. Thus you are giving better insight into your overall attack, which I appreciate so much!
Keep up the good work!
Seeing that parlour is such a throw back because I remember the very first videos you made when you were cleaning out all the hoarded junk from the space. You have just come soooo far!!!
I love getting a glimpse of the different rooms once again and yes the parlor is beautiful. Your enthusiasm for the place is so infectious. I’m sure you’ve inspired many. Great job on the trim both inside and out.
Love your home. Thank you for showing us more of the house.
I'm sticking around I'm SOoO EXCITED for you both!!!
Whenever I see a new video posted, I watch without fail, even if it's watching paint dry - because I am excited about what you are doing and would not want to miss a minute of it.
I'm glad to hear that your tree problem might solve the squirrel problem.
Caleb, we would watch anything put out. I would love a show of you walking throw every room and talk about everything you need to do to put it back to original
Great video! It was fun to see those rooms again, and to see the inside structurs of that mansard roof. That looks so complicated, I can't imagine taking on that project. But you are in good hands with Eric.
An outcome video every week doesn't feel realistic to me.
You are doing an awesome job Caleb!
The patience and dedication, research and sourcing, take a emotional and exhaustive effort. That doesn't even take into consideration, the actual hands on work time.
Again I commend you.
I was employed most of my 40+ working years as buyer. Getting the right product to the right place at the right time, from the right source at the right price... (you get the picture) It's more of a challenge than most people would appreciate.
best wishes for each milestone achievement
We wish some of your followers could drive down and give you some help with your projects. You're doing a great job and the house will be beautiful when it's done.
Thanks for the update. No worries about not showing exciting videos every time. Looking forward to next week's video. Big win to stop the squirrels! destructive little devils!
❤️🥰 Love your home and your progress.
I love that antique mirrored display cabinet in the downstairs parlor near the window! 😍
Looking at this giant job, this makes my little 2 story craftsman remodel look like nothing. I'm even going to pull off all the stucco and re-side (they even stucco'd over the posts, it's pretty gross) and seeing how much you've been dealing with and done and how wonderfully you can see it coming together even now is definitely inspiring! ❤
That project doesn’t sound little at all!!!
So excited for you about getting so close to putting up new material on the outside of your house!
I’m a dedicated viewer, so no need to try and please me! I’ll be here for whatever you put up. 😃
HAy structure IS pretty. Looking forward to seeing the work start on that dormer.
You've been making good, steady progress on the house. That's more important than exhausting yourself and your resources to try to put out more content.
If you can reuse some of the wood from the tree in the house, that would be so cool! Nature helping restore this old gal 😉
I have always wondered about these “Jefferson” windows. Do they open like a door? Or slide up like a window? Several homes around the St. Louis area I have been looking at have them. I don’t think they all are functional, but would I definitely look into fixing that if I knew how they functioned. Thanks!
The final product when it’s completed will be fantastic.
No, it’s fantastic just knowing about what goes in this process. Yes, there are delays, always. Thank you for the content.
I am glad you showed some of the inside. I had been wondering about it. Thank you for sharing
I recommend you go back and watch his videos from the very start. There are lots on the interior that are fun to watch. 😀
@DK-pl8xd oh I have seen them. I really love what is being done. And his commitment to bringing back it's natural beauty.
@@ksgirlfriday9581 I miss-interpreted your comment. 😀 When I first found his channel I binge watched all the episode. I’ve come to really appreciate his commitment to the preservation of this beautiful and old home.
Your progress is amazing, to all of different details all over the house. All every time with a good reason. I am grateful you bring us on your journey. I enjoy it immensely and I can't wait for next week and cross fingers all go well (or as well as possible since there might be always things you have to change on the fly). 🤞😁
I can't wait for the end of the year summary of progress video - I feel like so much has happened and I can't wait to see it all coming together!
That was fun! Thanks for sharing, Kaleb! ❤️
Im looking forward to the premier. QandA seems like a great format for weeks when there has been little new or exciting progress to see. I would also welcome a return to a house tour, maybe discussing some of your latest thoughts, surely you have had some new ideas since we last had a tour?!
Yes to this!👍
Watching paint dry is relaxing. I will never not watch you paint!
If you ever need more Q&A material to play off of, I'm dying to know when you'll finally get a working shower and kitchen in place. Not having those in place would drive me crazy!
Hi Kaleb and Kim. I hope all is going well. You are doing a beautiful job with attention to detail and with care. Happy to support you.
Thanks for showing us around again. The lack of progress in those room, and the mess in there, doesn’t matter. Just maybe we also love to see at least a glimpse of them. For their beauty and as a reminder of what this house is all about! Why not end all the videos with you in a different location showing a bit of that room … 😀
We’re here for the journey, not just the goal!
Oh, this is a nice idea. A reminder of things done (as in the half bath, library, back staircase, etc) and things to be done.
@@Lucinda_JacksonI was hopping we’d get a glance at the bathroom. 😄
Good morning Kaleb 😊🌞 awesome work on your house. Thanks for the information you tell. Glade that you put up a video for us, so nice of you.. you take care and Kim take care. Thanks for sharing.
Good work! I have a random question that has nothing to do with the house. What's the story on the paper clip tatoo??
And yes! Keep out those squirrels!
Can you re-use any of the slate off the roof, it would certainly help with the cost?
Looking great, Anybody who has ever done remodeling knows it takes patience and a whole lot of work.
Hats off to you ! Love your project and your passion !
I can’t wait for the roof to start so I can only imagine the excitement you are experiencing. This is going to be the real start of renovations.
We love all that you do; whether it's painting, cleaning, building, removing, talking, showing us things, or whatever else you may film.
It was wonderful seeing the rooms again…. I can’t wait to see the work on the mansard… it’s going to completely transform her. Keep up the good work….
Hi, I finally subscribed to your channel. Beautiful work. I’m sending you well wishes for your house. Joyce from Connecticut ❤️🙏🇺🇸
You're doing great! I admire your amazing progress!!!
No worries Kaleb. I enjoying seeing your progress. Carry on.
Thank you Caleb .. interesting as always. I had not realised the 'roof walls' were so thin. Best of luck for your continued success.
Very nicely done, Caleb. I appreciate the background music as well.
what a great video, thank you so much!! I loved seeing the rooms you haven't shown in such a long time. I can see why the parlor is your favorite room as it's so gorgeous! I love those shutters! Looking forward to seeing your next video!!
Thank you for the update, it is all so interesting. I live in Ireland in a house from late 1700's. I just love old houses, thank you for bringing your viewers along with you.
Great work Kaleb! Looks like the weather will be beautiful for one more week, so I hope you can get as much done as possible. So glad to see you restoration work continue to progress, best wishes to you and Kim!
No worries Caleb. I'm here as long as you are!👍😊. One bite at a time!😃
Great update. I wonder if you could do a walkthrough from basement to top floor without interruption so that we could get a better sense of where the different rooms are in relation to each other?! Thanks for sharing this renovation with us !
in due time. this is harder to do now since we live here.
Where's Kim? Haven't seen her post anything on her channel in a long time.
I was thinking the same. I miss the shopping videos and her face.🥰
This is a reminder that you have a LONG way to go! You are very determined and dedicated that's for sure. 🙂 Whew!
Dear Kaleb, ANYTHING you work on is exciting to watch, especially painting! Even if it takes a week or so longer for making a video, I'm not going anywhere.
Can't wait to see the crown start looking properly put together again! Glad that the original wood is still intact, I couldn't imagine trying to rebuild every part from the sticks up!
Caleb. It is ALL looking fantastic! Thank you for sharing your journey with us!
Having all that trim painted up means the house will get a HUGE transformation as soon as you install it!
Determination, patience and love of a dream will eventually get you there. Much respect to Kim for waiting it out.
There’s a huge dif between restoring and just gutting and throwing up drywall. Don’t be too hard on yourself dude. Just keep cracking on!
Very informative and good to see the rooms in the house, again. It takes time to get repairs done even if the resources are available. We all want to see it done as well as possible, too. Looking forward to see all the painted trim in it's place.
Thank you for the Q & A. I have been watching since the beginning and I wouldn't miss an episode. It's great revisiting what we have already seen.
The family and I were recently in St. Louis for the Metallica show. We stayed in Benton Park and were blown away by the architecture and vibe of the neighborhood. We rolled Old North and St. Louis Place n'hoods too. Lots of great homes that need saving!
What's the story on the siding of the house next door? We saw several in the neighborhood with the exact same.
Take a tip from a Nashvillian... Buy those lots next to you as fast as you can.
Thanks for the update Caleb! Say hi to Kim 😊
Thank you for inspiring me so much. I’m currently in the middle of restoring a historic victorian home in the middle of the desert.
Been watching you since I lived in a little apartment in San Diego. You encouraged me to follow my lifelong dreams and restore a piece of history myself. I’ve quit certain work. I’ve broken down and cried in the middle of a roofing store. I’ve hurt myself working. I’ve messed up projects and had to start over. I’ve been overwhelmed beyond belief at times. Paralyzed not knowing where to start because there’s so much. But I need to be patient and realistic. People like you help me with that.
You come so far and the place looks amazing. You may not see the progress as fast as you like, but it’s there. Please take time to pat yourself on the back and relax. You guys are doing great!!
Thanks for showing the beautiful insides. The front parlor is amazing. It’s been so long. It was so fun when you were working on stripping the woodwork and plastering inside. So glad that you’re getting that outside stuff done tho. Has to be done before winter.
God bless you all!
I've been here almost since the beginning, and I just want to say it's so impressive to see the amount of care you put into everything. It makes the historian in me so happy to see your drive to restore things to how they used to be. Also, I loved this week's video and had fun seeing some of the rooms we hadn't seen in a while again! It's such a beautiful place. Wishing you all the best with the rest of the journey!
Thank you for this education. It makes me feel much better about the restoration work I’m doing on my c 1905. Your place is special!
I realize it's almost no discount anymore, but to be honest, it would've made more sense to me to just build something out of "budget" as in standard materials to at least mostly close up and temporarily fix the stuff that's there. Take down the stuff that needs to be repaired or replicated, and just get it sealed in so you can do the interior work while you're waiting, especially over the winter, and you'll have something solid and safe there.
I agree. And setting priorities seems to be his weakness as seen in several other videos. This one shines the light on getting machinery related to the owner of the house rather than focusing on having the tree problem addressed. Or getting the building the machines are stored in weatherproofed and safe. But priorities are not his forte. In fact, he actually believes his priorities are correctly set and has lots of excuses or as he would say reasons why they are set as they are. But, rock on. It's content.
Its easier said than done, but I would have considered building a temporary plywood roof over that gaping hole a long while back. His trouble is, that would likely be a few days' work, and he has to keep interesting content coming.
Yeah, silly Kaleb. Just sitting around and twiddling his thumbs. 🙄
@@Lucinda_Jackson Is that what was said? Didn't see that said anywhere. But don't let facts get in the way of some good old fashioned, useless sarcasm when you have not solid contribution to a valid conversation.
@@themainer1267the first commenter made a valid suggestion without making a mean spirited, personal attack.🤔
It's really important to get the structural aspects, especially the roof, done before the interior, so take your time.
I'm really looking forward to the facade being completely cleaned and refinished.
I love watching your videos just because you are so positive and talented. You have brightened my day today.
It's no problem Caleb! Most of us now how tedious, time consuming, and slow restoration is. Especially if you do all the work yourself. Kepp going with faith! You're doing a beautiful job! Lots of love from Bavaria to you and Kim!🫶
I'm so excited to see the mansards and dormers restored, and the color scheme is gorgeous! 👍🏻👏🏻
Stay positive, you’re doing an awesome job.. slow and steady gets the job done!
Your house is coming along so much farther all the time! Don’t cut yourself short ! It was great to see some spaces and your plans for upcoming projects , keep up the good work!
25 years ago i bought a victorian house that had not been touched it still had wall mounted lead gas pipe wall lights , and all the original doors ect the fireplaces had been painted over [ so much paint ] along with boarded over fire places with 1930's gas fires in front . i have spent 25 years restoring this old house [ i will never move to a modern wooden box ] .
keep up with your dream you will get there eventualy :)
In your video you said you were "trying to save this place". You are saving that place, and you are doing an amazing job!
I’m so excited!
It will be so cool, and I am happy it will be coming ! Great job!
❤ We appreciate all you do. Thank you for the mini tour/ updates. 😊 I do enjoy your channel and watching the restoration of the house.
Hi kim and kaleb. From Indiana. It's going to beautiful when completed!💕
Caleb, you have helped me to learn patience when dealing with a major project. Love following your channel.
every little thing you do towards the end result is progress. I love vintage homes and especially love true restoration,so for me I would watch any video of you working towards this beautiful house no matter what you were doing. as I also live in a vintage home that needs lots of work and I want to restore it,I COMPLETELY understand how much it costs and how long it takes. do what you can when you can man,I am rooting for you!
I don't know whether it's a trick of the light, but that lighter coloured paint looks almost pearlised.
Did you got that wonderful old stove out of that house and to yours! Keep up the with this great old house!!!
WOW, sooooo GLAD you don't lose your COOL with ALL OF THIS!!!! CAN'T WAIT TO SEE NEXT WEEK''S VIDEO!!!!
Hello Caleb and Kim.. How exciting to see the wood and colors that will be going on the Mansard. Can't wait to see it going up, all pieced together. Till next time. Hugs❤
