Trayvax Contour is tough, but card access can be tougher.

  • Carrying the Trayvax Contour for 3 weeks taught me a few things, 1) this is a well engineered and made wallet, wonderful materials and craftsmanship, 2) it’s heavy, due to all the things in #1, and 3) while cash is easy to get to, there’s no easy way to extract your cards, and it scratches your top card (so be careful). Other than that, I really enjoyed it and so did everyone who saw it. ‪@TrayvaxEnterprises‬

    I tried using the cash strap area for a quick access method for a couple cards, but it just bent them in an uncomfortable way so I stopped. Do you have a way to quickly get cards out that my limited mind missed?

    If you watch videos about Trayvax wallets you’d see that the way to extract cards is to fan them with your thumb through the front, not the awkward way you demonstrated.

      Thanks Melinda. Yes, you're right, and I should have explained myself better. Since it scratches up the top card every time you push the stack out, until they fix that, the way they planned is unacceptable. Once they address how they damage cards, then it IS the best way.

      I also think pushing the cards from bottom is not the way this wallet was designed. Definitely have to use your thump to push them through as you are fanning them. I never hear other you tubers complain of top card being scratched. If this is a serious issue why hasn’t Trayvax even fixed it ????

    Appreciate the review. I have the Contour and Summit. For access to the cards,
    You simply use the window (opened part of the wallet where you placed the dummy card) and thumb up through the cards to find the one you want. This of course will be done after you open the latch. It’s quite easy to find the card you want using this method. Just FYI. Thanks again.

    Although I have both the Contour and the TrayVax Ascent, I’ve actually gone back to using my Ascent purely because it has a much slimmer profile in the pocket (but it does hold less cards than the Contour - but that’s fine for me !).

    I would put the eyelet on the bottom of the wallet. I use it with a lanyard; and when taking it out of the pocket connected to the lanyard; it is necessary to flip it 180 degrees to access the top part. Also the eyelet gets a bit on the way of the cards.
    But other than this; it is a fantastic piece!
    Excellent review; thanks a lot!

    Probably a little late to comment, and I appreciate your candor! I personally get a little irritated at how much the inside can scratch cards at the beginning, but I loosened the bottom leather piece by one increment and now don't really have that issue. Also, I saw how you get your cards out- have you not tried to fan them from the top, like you would on the "ID window" side of that Dango M1, or from that finger slot thingy in that Anson Calder slim wallet you reviewed? That's how I get my cards out, granted it can be a little bit of a pain, but with the dummy card it came with in the very front, my ID behind that, and my debit card at the back, I haven't had any issues. But I don't push the cards up from the bottom, I push from the top, with my thumb on top of the top card, pressing up. Also, I decided how I have it fits my cards and cash fine, so I disassembled it and trimmed the leather to be flush with the edges of the metal. Really helps give me more room to push them up and out with my thumb.
    Just some thoughts. :) Though this metal plate and the leather are so thick it kind of drives me crazy sometimes, but I deal because I like how solid it feels. Hope maybe this might help...

    • @walletopia
      @walletopia  Před 4 lety

      Thanks Channing, yes I was pushing them from the bottom due to the scratching, but like you others noted the thumb push down from the top. I address that in a Q&A video here: czcams.com/video/9DIhLkS_xwA/video.html But in the end, if I have to do that much fiddling with a wallet to get it to work, then the design fails.

    I've had this wallet for about a month now. And i haven't found anything difficult about getting cards out. You don't push all of them from the bottom like you show but rather slide them out one by one quickly with your thumb using the open area where the bottle opener is. And the eyelit for the lanyard absolutely doesn't gouge in any way or become obtrusive. If someone put the wallet in my pocket and i didn't know what it looked like, I wouldn't even know that there is a lanyard loop.

      @@walletopia I've never had my cards scratched either. The machined part of the metal frame is very smooth and the only way i can see cards scratched maybe is if you jam too many in without releasing the side straps to allow for more space for the cards. @@Gaba-oo4qb Interesting as I've been hearing a consistent message on both sides. When did you purchase yours? I doubt it's a manufacturing issue as their processes would hopefully all be the consistent. This issue is curious. • @Gaba-oo4qb
      @Gaba-oo4qb Před 4 lety

      @@walletopia I purchased my wallet about 2 months ago. I wouldn't call it a manufacturing issue. All it is is just making judgement calls when you fill up your wallet with cards. Some people like their cards to be packed tighter and some people looser. There is no sweet spot. Just depends on the person. Me for instance, I like my cards to be loose enough so that I can fit a couple more if I have to. And that makes them easy enough to take out. But again, there's no magical formula. It all depends on what you want.

The first two being my DL & CCL, a couple of medical cards and then a debt and credit card but I have them facing the other way since when I unsnap and use them it's easier to access the debit/ credit as my main cards. I generally have no issues.. but I have noticed that my cards are scratched. When cards are stacked and rubbing on each other I suppose it's bound to happen. I like the idea but being realistic I think I may have to find other options.

    There is also one other flaw with this wallet - if you have the leather adjusted for say 8 cards and you then pull out one card to use at the counter, tip the wallet upside down (opening facing the floor) and with just a single light tap, the rest of the cards will then all fall out as that 8th card is no longer there to hold the rest of the cards in place......When you pull out a card, it’s necessary to hold the remainder inside the wallet with a finger so this doesn’t happen...

    The Contour is the easiest I have had for getting the right card out even if it's in the middle. Use your thumb to shuffle the top cards out until you see the card you want. Then simply push it out and pull from the bottom. Super easy to get the card you want like that. I personally do not think there is a better wallet at any price. Hey Mark, I don't see any issues with this wallet scratching my cards. Maybe it was an issue that they fixed? I will agree that card access is slightly tougher than other wallets, especially when going directly from the Stow wallet, which makes it so easy. It's also pretty thick, at .9in fully loaded vs the stow at .68in fully loaded with my cards and cash. The stow's thickness funny enough, is the same fully loaded or completely empty. The stow's thickness included 5 of my business cards. The contour at .9in thick does not hold business cards. I do love the way the contour feels in my hand. The titanium and oil tanned leather are beautifully constructed, and while it's thicker, i don't really notice that while it's in my pocket. It still maintains a very small footprint. The contour has a more rugged military type feel to it, so I think that appeals to a lot of people. This is evident by a lot of the customer review's on the Trayvax website, which includes user photos that have the wallet leaning up against a gun... The contour has an advantage of being more flexible in terms of # of cards it can carry, and for people that need to stuff an occasional receipt in their wallet, the contour will be the better fit.

      Glad you found it didn't have that problem. I doubt it had anything to do with them fixing it, but with me using it. The proper usage is to push the card down with your dumb, but that didn't work as I had it too tight so I pushed it from the bottom. All I can surmise is that movement caused the scratching. I rate this wallet a 1 out 50, because that is an easy problem for them to fix, especially if they are charging that kind of money for metal and leather. Whoever pulled out their old leather wallet and said to themselves "man, i wish this wallet had a built in bottle opener and a giant protruding loop so i can hook up my lanyard" needs their head examined. you are supposed to push the cards from the opening. Once you get to the card you want you can push it up and grab it from the back. You don't push up from the bottom.

    I don’t want any kind of latch on my wallet! That’s for women’s purses. 👜

    You should look at how to use the wallet before doing a review, you didn’t know how to adjust the leather per your cards therefore you had a hard time removing cards. You don’t push cards up from the bottom corner you use your thumb with ease , but you couldn’t do that per you didn’t adjust the leather

      Actually, I'm am very familiar with how to extract the cards and adjust the leather, the wallet scratchs the top card which is why I pushed them from the bottom. If you make it too loose cards float around, too tight and cards are scratched, using your thumb to push down on the top card to push it forward IS the correct way. I address this in this followup video - czcams.com/video/9DIhLkS_xwA/video.html

      Nah, it can handle it. If the pin is all the way adjusted and I'm trying to force cards, THEN it's too many. That said, I do tend to carry 3-4 cards too many in my wallets in general, bad habit 😀

    Long term review here! This wallet will kill your cards over time! All my cards are peeling apart! There is no protection for your cards on top and bottom. Not worth the price!

      I love the engineering and materials used on this wallet. The design that went into this is also well done, but unlike everyone else out there, I don't take payment to do my reviews :)
