East Tennessee is so poor and they just don't put money into their roads unless they have to most roads are known to wash out in that area. And their police are so inadequate. Some of you apparently didn't listen to the story. He was new to the area; he moved to TN from NY 2 years ago. This was also his first-ever arrest as a rookie deputy, and based on the call, it's highly possible and plausible that he was not yet familiar with the particular location of the call. There's also an assumption that he just left the woman in the back seat to die, when again, it's possible that after coming up for air, he intended to go back to the car to try and save her. At this point, we can only assume most of the details about this situation.
I agree we shouldn't be jumping to conclusions at this point. No question though about the woman being in his care and custody at the time. They're both dead so let's not make it worse for their families by speculating.

As a former Deputy in Meigs County those cars aren’t equipped with up to date GPS technology. No dash cams or anything. And implying that his turning down into a place of seclusion was fishy is ridiculous. If he had nefarious motives for doing that he wouldn’t have driven the car into the river and drowned if that’s what it was all about. He had only been here a couple of months and he wasn’t familiar with the area and I can’t say for sure that I would have been either and I been here for years. But yes there were two lives lost in a horrible accident and that’s the truth. What the media wants to report and how they choose to report it is no reflection on either of them. He knew where he was going. And the 6 week training isn't enough for any cop on any force. They also support the blue Line one gang.

Blythe Ferry Ln runs parallel to Hwy 60, and goes right into the water. There's a chance that if you aren't familiar with the area and accidentally turn too soon, you can easily hit the water in the dark. Just saying...

I am wondering too. The area was familiar to the policeman. Why turn onto an obviously dead end road? Surely he knew his way back to his station. The woman could not have forced him to make that turn, she was shackled.

Some of you apparently didn't listen to the story. He was new to the area; he moved to TN from NY 2 years ago. This was also his first-ever arrest as a rookie deputy, and based on the call, it's highly possible and plausible that he was not yet familiar with the particular location of the call. There's also an assumption that he just left the woman in the back seat to die, when again, it's possible that after coming up for air, he intended to go back to the car to try and save her. At this point, we can only assume most of the details about this situation.

No question though about the woman being in his care and custody at the time.

As a former Deputy in Meigs County those cars aren’t equipped with up to date GPS technology. No dash cams or anything. And implying that his turning down into a place of seclusion was fishy is ridiculous. If he had nefarious motives for doing that he wouldn’t have driven the car into the river and drowned if that’s what it was all about. He had only been here a couple of months and he wasn’t familiar with the area and I can’t say for sure that I would have been either and I been here for years. But yes there were two lives lost in a horrible accident and that’s the truth. What the media wants to report and how they choose to report it is no reflection on either of them. Horrible tragedy but people want to make it into something else since it involved a Deputy Sheriff. Prayers for both and I do mean both families.
