It's a modern take on a 50's like town in the comics. But yeah from what it looks like the episode has them in a world where it's more modern, and reading is some how illegal in the town, which I just can't see being real.
Okay, so we're going to completely gloss over the fact a person not only died, but was erased from history. And Archie is not going to explain to tell the world about this technology and how it caused that. ...Okay.

You got a point. I just find it weird how they were able to go from the tale of a highschool student and his two love interests to something like this. It is good. Besides, I think Archie has seen some crazier stuff. I think he had a crossover with Marvels "The Punisher" in one of his comics.
I think it's because they kept, for the most part, the original feeling of the characters intact. Weird things happen to them but it's not like they turn into the Archie's version of Scooby Doo.
Again, good point. At least it didn't end up like that. Scooby Doo is a classic, but copies are annoying. This was a good show, just catching up with it, it's been years since I've last seen it. I don't imagine it was that popular though, I'm pretty sure their channel or time slot wasn't that popular or known. Kind of a shame.
