    I sure appreciate you going over all the wires. I was really confused about what to do with the wires you didn't use. I didn't realize they didn't connect to anything on the back side of the plug until I watched this. I was searching FOREVER to figure out what I needed to do. Definitely appreciate you. Any other videos are just, "connect all the wires, okay you're good". Ugghhh, but you saved me the hassle.

    You guys should be the standard for car audio installations. I have learned so much and you re-ignited my love of car audio. Wonderful installs, so clean! Thank you from this old bass head. I recently had a horrible experience at a local shop. they ran my RCA's next to my power cable. Guess what I get now? I ordered body panels and upgrading and fixing their horrible install.

    FINALLY! You guys work on the vehicle I drive. I would recommend to any C5 owner to bypass the Metra kit and go with the Vette Nuts double din dash kit. Yes, it's double the price of the Metra but it is injection molded texture just like GM did for the bezel. Plus you retain the doors for the cup holder and the cigarette lighter area. Whereas the metra kit is smooth matte black and does not retain the doors. I'm waiting for Black Friday to get a MVH-1400NEX to install in my 2001.

      Just ordered my vettenutts double din and have a Kenwood DMX7706s ready to install. I took notes during this video. The only thing I am stumped on is the fuse size for the accessory wire connection and how to wire the relay for the same wire. Any help is appreciated, looking forward to seeing this bezel, I like the factory look of the ashtray and cup holder doors.

    Hey Dean, I finally finished this installation up. I will say that fancy data base you referenced for finding out factory wire harness information needs to be updated. On the 97-03 C5 Corvettes (removed from the 2004s for some unknown reason) there is an accessory power plug just above and to the left of the Body Control Module in the area where you were probing for accessory power. That plug was put there on purpose by the factory to provide accessory power to things like CD changers or what have you. It is powered by a dedicated 20amp fuse. It is a three wire plug that has ground, accessory power and full time power. Once I found this information out it sped this job up by about x10 and I didn't have to splice in to anything. Loving the double din Pioneer and Vettenuts bezel.

      Could you tell me more about this? Is this where I can get my accessory power for the HU harness? Any help is appreciated, getting ready to install a Kenwood DMX7706s and back up camera. Thanks.

    I dont claim to know more than this channel.. (keep up the good work Five Star) But if i could ad some hands on advice. I just did this install on my c5 z06, I used the other (tapered) screws (than he used here and I left them semi-loose) and when I installed the radio i seen how it was "off".. I had my screws not all the way tight but pretty tight I could still move the radio i adjusted the radio then removed it and tightened the screws for the last time and I didnt have to make adjustments/cuts on the mounting brackets. Just some insight that worked for me.. probably best to listen to these guys tho.. lol

  • @andrewdomenitzdmd
    @andrewdomenitzdmd Před 4 lety

    I used a liquid plastic repair stuff to reinforce the "clip" tabs that are at a 90-degree angle coming out of the things that have to clip into the mating surfaces. Also, some of them did not "clip" with enough force to hold them so you can use a heat gun to soften them up enough to adjust their angle and make them tighter in their holes at the top of the Metra dash replacement going into the holes there

    Great videos. Agreed on the accessory wire. There’s one there waiting for a connection. Easy. Odd that it was covered by black duct tape but… it was. I’d share a pic but no way I know to do it on CZcams. Also, you do not need to remove the console door/lid to pull out that assembly. I have had mine in and out a half dozen times and never needed to move the door. Jfyi.

How/where did you run the wires for the b/u camera? Where would you suggest running the wires from the sub to the dash? When adding door speakers, would you suggest running new wires? • @jindewolf7784
      @jindewolf7784 Před 2 lety

      You just need a trigger so your HU will display the reverse. You need a separate illumination wire as the stock harness doesn't have a provision for one. Some guys tap the climate control for the illumination, but if you're already running wire (RCA & reverse) I guess you always add one more.

      plinkytx I don't think that the 1.5 dins ever had Class 2. I am pretty sure they started that in 02-04 when they went to double din size radios. The VIN and RPOs have to be programmed in those for them to work, even though it still uses the accessory circuit to trigger it. I don't think they did away with the accessory circuit turn-on until they ditched double dins and went to a fully integrated radio/climate control. The only data bus function the 1.5 dins had was for a slave CD and cassette decks. Ford did something similar in the late 90s and early 00s with their changers, remote mounted radio chassis, and EATC.

    Getting ready to do a double din install on my 02 C5. What size fuse did you use for the accessory wire from the passenger foot well? Also, any idea what ebrake bypass is needed for kenwood dmx7706s? Love the videos you guys make.

      I'm not a professional installer but may be able to help. Each radio may be different on which color wire is for the parking brake and what type of signal it's looking for (12v or ground). Mine is light green for my Pioneer AVIC-7200NEX. So what I did was did a google search for an installation manual for my radio and found a link to Pioneer's website where I downloaded it in a PDF file. I then opened the file with PDF Reader and did a search for "green". Only three results showed up so finding the info I needed was easy. The manual will tell you what type of connection is needed. For mine, it needs to be connected to the "power supply side of the parking brake switch". So, what that means is, there are two wires on the PB switch, one goes to ground and the other goes upstream to power. So when I pull the brake the power supply side of the switch gets grounded and the radio receives ground on the light green wire. So, to bypass the PB I could either connect the light green wire to the ground side of the PB switch or to any other available ground source. I simply connected it to the black ground wire on the radio harness. Yours may be different so find the pdf installation manual for your radio and look it up. Best of luck!

      Thanks for the help. I took notes during this video and think I have everything figured out but the size fuse for the accessory wire and how to wire the relay. I have a Kenwood DMX7706s and a back up camera. I’m going to pull the camera switch from the reverse lights and the illumination from the tag light. Found the 5star video on the ebrake bypass and it’s simple like you said. Just stumped on the fuse for the accessory wire (I’m guessing 10amp) and lost on the relay (is this even needed or can it just be wired right to the accessory without the relay)?

      @@bwremax well, according to a previous comment on this video, there is an accessory power plug just above and to the left of the Body Control Module in the area where Dean was probing for accessory power and is powered by a dedicated 20amp fuse. It is a three wire plug that has ground, accessory power and full time power. So, if connected here, there would be no need for a relay seeing 20 amps is plenty. Then, yes, you could put a 10 amp fuse inline from there just as additional safety.

      Yes, just went out to my car and checked it. There is a 3-terminal plug with three wires coming out of it and then taped off. The colors are orange (all-time 12v), yellow (accessory 12v) and black (ground).

    Great install guys. Disappointed that this Pioneer Head Unit turned out to be a POS. I always knew Pioneer to be a very respected name in the industry. This unit s**t the bed in about 2 yrs of limited use. Any suggestions Dean? Thinking about repairing it but I'm most likely going to go in a different direction. (Alpine 650, or Kenwood Excellon) VERY PISSED MAN!!!!!!!!!!
