- Have you been in lockdown? Thinking of moving to Queensland? If so, don’t worry, apparently thousands of people - within Australia and overseas - are thinking the same thing and want to move to Queensland! Let's talk about it in beautiful Tallebudgera!
In this video, we discuss what we call the ‘running away from lockdown phenomenon.’ Being in lockdown has created opportunities to work from home. It has also led people to reflect and change the priorities in their life or even bring forward their retirement plans. We made a sea change to sunny Queensland 17 years ago and are happy to share our experience and observations about living in Queensland 🤗

Hi, we're Beth & Paul from Brisbane, Australia and we love to travel!
Paul retired on 28th February 2020 and on the 1st March 2020, we set out on a 6-month adventure around South East Asia. This was a well-planned once-in-a-lifetime travel experience! It was our intention to show you how you can have a great time travelling without spending a fortune.
Ok, our timing wasn't great - what with the outbreak of the Covid-19 virus and subsequent global economic turmoil less than a month into our trip.
Until it is safe to travel internationally again, we turn our focus to travelling around Australia and sharing everything our beautiful country has to offer!

I’m a grandma (Nonna) my youngest grandsons go camping most weekends. They ride motorbikes and sail and swim and fish. They are 8 and 4. My 19 year old grand daughter is studying medicine and working in retail, she has a great social life as well. Us oldies go fishing, play bowls, camping and socialising with mates. We have lived in Queensland all our lives, wouldn’t live anywhere else.

Tallebudgera is an Aboriginal word said to mean “good fish” and derived from “talle” meaning “fish” and “budgerie” meaning “good”.

@@BethandPaultravel Absolutely we love to travel local. We love the hinterland area in the Maleny, Montville area. We stayed at the Ocean view resort/cottages. It was a wonderful spot. The ocean is not close, and wondered why they would use that name, but the rainforest walk on their property was worth the stay and the cottage was very special. The area has so much to see and do. Your vlog is a wonderful resource.

I come from China and I have been studied in Melbourne, Melbourne is very charming place but I can’t get used to the weather. Therefore I thinking about moving to Queensland, I love sunshine beach 🏖😍

Thanks... I used to live on the Gold Coast and I miss Qld... after that I lived in Perth for 2 years and later moved to adelaide where I am now. As you say one of the main reasons is the weather.. SA winters are cold and dark... I really notice the difference in how the lack of sun and blue sky affects me.. Thinking of moving back, maybe to the Sunshine Coast.. Qld weather is a huge plus!..

What do you recommend? Applying for a Visa through an agent or it's better doing it ourselves. Both me and my wife are Mental health care workers, and are 40 years of age, from the UK

We’re not qualified to give migration advice, but the Department of Home Affairs website has a lot of useful information including tools to help you explore visa options. Many people choose to prepare their own applications. If you do decide to choose a migration agent, it’s a good idea to do plenty of research and choose one that specialises in skilled visas and has oodles of excellent reviews. Good Luck!😉

Yep, the 6 months of winter down here in Melbourne really is bad. Especially when the building's are as badly built as they are in Australia.

Hi @Suelen Smith, Our children were young when we moved from Victoria to Queensland and they both had a wonderful school experience and made true friends for life! One was 8 and the other was 17. We're sure your teenagers will love it and settle in well too! Queenslanders are a friendly bunch...you'll feel at home in no time! 🤗🤗🤗🤗

Grew up in NSW. Been living in VIC for a few years now. Jesus Christ what I wouldn't give to be in QLD right now. 5th lockdown now and I'm suffering - we're meant to be going to the Sunny Coast for a holiday next Saturday but the border probably won't be open in time.

@@BethandPaultravel Thanks so much Beth and Paul, I've been watching a lot of your videos recently to vicariously get some sun and relaxation and it's been really good, you guys are great. It just sucks because obviously the lockdown is a choice between two evils - the UK and US have both lost around 0.19% of their total population to COVID compared to Australia's 0.0035% so the lockdowns clearly work, it just absolutely sucks, and I've certainly never seen such animosity and division between the states and territories in my lifetime.

It's a beautiful video and your first hand accounts have been very helpful for us.
We are young couple 30ish. And we are very keen to move from Melbourne.
Could you please suggest some peaceful suburbs around Brisbane that are not too high on living expenses and not too shabby as well? Distance from beach isn't a concern. What matters is proximity to warehouse/factories as we work in warehousing services.
Any suggestion would lead us in a good direction to start looking. We are in fact planning on visiting Brisbane as the lockdown ends but we would appreciate if we could have some prechosen areas to look into 🙏🙏🙏.

Hi Neil, thanks for watching our videos 🤗 we’re pleased you’ve found them useful. This question may be better suited to a real estate agent who knows where the warehouses are and can answer your questions about peaceful suburbs at reasonable prices. There are warehouses near the airport on the north side of Brisbane, but there are also warehouses on the south side. We would strongly suggest spending a week or so up here driving around to look at houses and warehouses. This will give you a better idea of what you can get for your $ and also distances etc. Good Luck!

No worries, Yeronga, Yeerongpilly, Annerley and Salisbury have many nice quiet streets and are on the Southside. Everton Park, Chermside West, The Grange and Clayfield to the north. West End and Fortitude Vally are great for inner city apartment living….with everything including the cbd in walking distance. There’s not much in the way of warehouses on the west (that we know of). We tried to think of suburbs that are not too expensive and closer to warehouses. We hope that helps 🤗

The Qld Govt is offering cash incentives for those types of workers to live and and work in regional Qld. More info about this program can be found at: qld.gov.au/workinparadise We’re not sure about other types of work, but seek.com.au will list what’s currently available 😉

Hi Fongfong C 🤗 That’s a really difficult question to answer. Both places have incredible beaches, beautiful hinterlands and are popular places to holiday and live. We have never lived on the Gold Coast…but we ❤️ living on the Sunshine Coast ☀️
Hey guys, very informative video. I just wanted some general advice, I'm a 26yo single male from Melbourne and wanting to move to QLD by myself. Fortunately, my work goes wherever I go, so work is no issue. I'm looking to RENT and wanted to know if you guys can point me in the right direction. I'm not too fussy, but would love to live near the beach, and Ideally close-ish to the city and in a place which is easy to make new connections with people and also in a nice suburb thats not rough. I know you guys love Tallebudgera which I am considering but also if there are any other gems that you would reccommend for someone my age? Sorry for long comment! Regards, Ryan :)
Hi Ryan, this is a really difficult question because Queensland has so many beautiful beaches. There are some great inner suburbs of Brisbane that are popular places to live for people your age (eg: West End, Newstead, Fortitude Valley etc) but they’re not near the beach. To be honest, the best beaches near Brisbane are almost an hours drive away. We would suggest coming up for a holiday and having a good look around, talk to real estate agents and get a really good idea of what’s available and the rental prices. When we moved up from Melbourne 17 years ago, we came up for a week and looked at lots of places before making our final decision. Have you looked at flatmates.com.au? There are a lot of share houses on there which is another option. We wish you the very best of luck 😊

Can we move interstate during covid?
Hi @KC Connell 🤗 I’m sorry, but we don’t know the answer to this question because different states have different rules. It would be depend on the rules for the state you are leaving and also the rules for the state you’re moving to. We have friends who were allowed to move from Melbourne during their lockdown last year to the Gold Coast. The only thing we can be sure of is that everything can change quickly during these uncertain times.
