- Instructional video about how to make paper porcelain the easy way. This no fuss method may also be used to quickly and easily make any clay into paperclay. We will place squares of single ply toilet paper in between thin slices of your clay and wedge it in before using for your clay project. This is an excerpt from my tutorial video for the virtual pottery class 'Making a Porcelain Origami Bowl' available through my website: www.earthplaystudio.com
Thankyou for the peek into your studio. Your clay is very white!😊
We're very lucky to have a very white porcelain made in Cape Town. It is also very translucent. It's rather expensive, but working so thin, as one can with adding the paper, it goes a long way!
Muchas Gracias maestra.un abrazo.
Wow I never saw anything like the way you put the papaer with ceramic? Do you have another video of showing us how it’s looks once you putting together and how it’s looks after it’s you made something. Thank you💖🙋♀️💖.
The fired clay looks almost exactly like normal fired clay, depending on the proportions of paper you add in. It can have a slightly open look to it, like egg box cardboard if a high percentage of paper is added. It is definitely more porous once bisque-fired. I don't have another video of the fired paperclay to share with you.
Love thank you!!
I'm glad you enjoyed the little video! I hope it helped you!
I LOVE this so much .. your voice is extremely soothing, very clear .. and just a joy!! Can I ask you.. will this work with any clay body? I have some cone 10 clay that I would love to do some sculpting with .. this is an inspiration!
Thank you for your feedback. Yes, it works with any clay and definitely makes sculpting much more stress-free because you can mend and join wet to dry and dry to dry seamlessly. Try patching with a mixture of dry clay mixed with vinegar and toilet paper, mixed into a slurry. It's just as good as 'magic mud'!
Thank you for replying I actually did try it !! with some cone ten wood fired clay and I made four successful and beautiful tiles and two wall sculptures and it worked so great !!! I’m so thankful to you
😊Thankyou
Thank you for this! You saved my project. I do have a question. How does adding the paper affect the shrinkage rate of the piece?
I'm glad the information helped. It's supposed to shrink less with the paper in it, but not significantly enough to make a difference. It will also depend on how high a percentage of paper you add to your clay
Maravilhoso!
lovely to hear RSA accent ...where is your studio? i stay in Tokai
Hi Debbie, I'm in Hout Bay!
Thank you - is it necessary to fire it ?
Yes
No, you can just keep it like that but it won't be water-tight and will eventually chip and erode. It is stronger than normal clay but still has the water-absorbent properties of clay.
Why can't I read your replies to the comments? Is it a glitch?
What kind of clay are you starting with?
Sorry, I haven't been checking for comments! This is a little video about making paper porcelain clay from porcelain clay. You can use this method of making paperclay using any clay, however. I hope that helps?
Very quiet.
So sorry, I was a beginner video maker at that stage. I corrected the volume in my later videos!
@@earthplaystudio9263 Thank you for your reply. I shall have a look what else that is more recent. Best wishes.
