I believe that having boys in the group competition will open up several possibilities of new elements to the choreography, just as the men in ballet lift the girls and make incredible jumps, without diminishing it but rather valuing them, I think that in RG it will also enrich

Unfortunately verbal and psychological abuse are common in gymnastics. It seems to happen in many countries and it’s just not right. The coaches think this pushes the gymnasts to be better and in a way it does but I think it’s also why many rhythmic gymnasts have such short careers. There’s only so long that you can take the abuse and being pushed past your boundaries, training on no food, etc. This can lead to more injuries because the girls aren’t eating enough for all their training and when you are so stressed for such a long time the body starts failing and you get injured more easily. I trained in dance for a very long time under one of the best teachers, but I was constantly anxious and unhappy because she was always screaming at us from a very young age. It didn’t make me a better dancer, just made me hate training.
Also I feel bad for Lala because she’s so young to be going through the pandemic away from her family, trying to train under restrictions. Having only a small room and no hallway access is not enough to prepare for a competition! Poor girl.

I'm Swiss and I observed the scandal in the past days. I can see that most of Swiss / Europeans are triggered by this kind of training mentality and treatment. So it wasn't surprising that they fired the trainers after the allegations became public. In our mentality/opinion, you can become a champion with discipline, force and hard work but harrassment and harsh treatment like this is not necessary. An example of this is Swiss artistic gymnast Giulia Steingruber (Olympic 2016 Vault medalist) coached by Bulgarian trainer Zoltan Yordanov. Anyhow, I think it's just a mentality thing, in general ppl in former Soviet union are tougher in many aspects and combined with "controversial", strong trainers they are unbeatable. And this is why Russia will always be on top and Switzerland the underdog.

I train rhythmic gymnastics at home with help of one UK gymnast and I am a boy. My biggest problem is that the closest rhythmic gymnastics club is in town that is 2 hours away from my town. We also visit that town very often since my grandparents live there. Right now I am able to do those jumps from Dina's clubs routine and I am very close to do some of Arina's and Dina's risks. I really think that everyone should try rhythmic gymnastics. Also I think that boys should have European and world championships in rhythmic gymnastics

Sports are mostly a mans world and a sport where girls are the stars I think is very positive. I have seen many discussions about who is the best foolball player of the history Cristiano, Messi, Pele or Maradonna, but nobody pay attetion to the girls, not just in football is the same thing in basketball, Volleyball, cycling and many others. People pay attetion to the girls in few sports like tennis, skating and artistic gymnastics.
I have seen good presentations of men in rythmic gymnast but many men are les flexible, have problems with equilibriums and can't do some moves.

Samantha Mathews it is easy to be fooled when gymnasts are raised with a plastic smile on their face, and get such sweet rewards when they win. We see only the joy on their faces when they enter the podium, but not the pain on those that didn’t make it.

Back in the day before Galima Sugurova, gymnasts had very normal size bodies. Galima had exceptional flexibility, and thus seemed to start that trend. Some people feel you must be super thin to be flexible, but it's not true. Look at rhythmic videos from 1970s to see how it was. Flexibility was not the focus.

About the male gymnasts, they obviously have some measure of talent and I would not oppose or deny someone's choice of career/artistic expression based on a narrow view on aesthetics. It will be tricky to see how individual male gymnastics is handled, but a mixed group sounds like an idea worth exploring. To see the men and women mix together in a flourish of skill and grace, that is not something we should pass over. It's going to take time to find a proper venue for the men.

@@Constantin9va I have been a part of dancing and gymnastics. I know how burning out prevents success, because it simply leads into black outs. There is a difference between hard tiring work and crossing lines with burning out. To watch gymnasts closely to not cross this line is the responsibility of coaches. But I also have expierenced coaches who just wanted to feel better by mocking someone in a narcisstic way. Just to call yourself a coach does not mean you are able to coach.

You will always find some place that is equally bad or worse. But does that make anything better for the Swiss gymnasts who suffered psychologically? I think not.

Certainly I will not want to. If they think as a business decision it is better to add boys, maybe they will do it, but I think it will hurt them. It is unclear why they would consider it in the first place. To me, this is the best sport in the world. It's not broken, so don't fix it. I do not think I am in the minority, but I don't know for sure. Do you think they should allow boys? If so, why?

David Carpenter I wouldn’t mind having men competing, but under different rules, different judges, etc. Men have such a different body structure than women, and in a sport like this, it will show. We would see new elements, new risks, with men’s gymnastics. There would be less flexibility, but more power and speed. And with this new cop we have right now, speed and apparatus handling is everything, and flexibility is near nothing.
