I seriously love that Linus doesn't have loads of jump cuts. It increases the quality of this so much. And I'm sure it makes their editing much easier and more efficient.

I got the 1080p blade because I need a lot of battery life. It works like a charm. When at school, I got a lot of batter because I really go all out for power saving (7-8 hours). Personally, I would recommend it in 1080p. PS: I can still one hand open it very easily

youtube reviews started out by informing the user if the product was worth it or not to buy. while they still do this, they spend much more time scolding the company that made it or praising them rather than just letting the viewer know what they need to know.

When Linus says he wishes these displays were 1440p (because 4k is impossible to drive with a 1060), why doesn't he just suggest turning the resolution down to 1440p while gaming if there's no difference? I've been wondering this for a long time. Does a 24 inch 4K display running 1440p look as good as a 24 inch 1440p display? Are there scaling issues since it's not exactly divisible? Please, do not comment on this if you do not 100% know what you're talking about.

Shady Brady i mean no, a 1440p image got stretched is worse than a native 1440p image, each displayed on a 24' monitor.
on the other hand, 1080p scales well with 4k because it's exactly a quarter of 4k, running at 1080p on a 4k monitor is still good i think.

Yeah I just did the math now guys. I thought 1440p was closer to 1.5x 1080p It's actually significantly less... I wonder why 2560x1440 became 2k instead of 2880 x1620. Also, that means 4K is a bit harder to drive than I thought it was. I have the S2716DG 1440p gsync display, and I'll be the first to tell you 1080p on this display looks awful. That's why I asked. I'm almost positive I've seen native 1080p displays look better that were even bigger than this. I guess 1440p is more of a "make 27 inch displays look better" resolution lol.
As a Swiss guy I'm not the hugest fan of the EU but one of the best things the EU brought is a 2 year warranty required by law. Yes, every tech manufacturer who sells products in the EU & Switzerland has to provide a 2 year warranty by standard which I think is very good and should also be standard over there in Canada and the US.

People who have has this laptop for over 2 months usually always have some type of problems. If your motherboard has a qcode read out, can you tell us the code on it? (qcode read out is a 2 digit display on the board)
If your motherboard doesn't have a qcode read out, i assume one of 3 issues. 1. cpu related. make sure you plugged in the 2x2 or 4x2 connector pin at the top of the computer and make sure the cpu fan is functioning and plugged in. 2. graphics card. if your graphics card isn't properly plugged in or insufficent power or just bad video cable, then you should be diagnosing it that way. 3. DOA motherboard. (actually has become more common for me recently than previously).
remove power cord, remove the ram, remove the cmos battery, hold the power button for 30 seconds, replace/reseat cmos battery, reseat ram, plug in and power on

The Battle of Verdun, fought from 21 February to 18 December 1916, was the largest and longest battle of the First World War on the Western Front between the German and French armies. The battle took place on the hills north of Verdun-sur-Meuse in north-eastern France. The German 5th Army attacked the defences of the Fortified Region of Verdun and those of the French Second Army on the right bank of the Meuse. Inspired by the experience of the Second Battle of Champagne in 1915, the Germans planned rapidly to capture the Meuse Heights, an excellent defensive position with good observation for the artillery to bombard Verdun. The Germans hoped that the French would commit their strategic reserve to recapture the position and suffer catastrophic losses in a battle of annihilation, not costly for the Germans because of their tactical advantage.
Poor weather delayed the beginning of the German attack until 21 February, but the Germans enjoyed initial success, capturing Fort Douaumont in the first three days of the offensive. Afterwards the German advance slowed, despite many French casualties. By 6 March, 20 1⁄2 French divisions were in the RFV and a more extensive defence in depth had been constructed. The Battle of Verdun lasted for 303 days and became the longest and one of the most costly battles in human history. Gsync is trash. Almost always fucks up the gaming performance.
You need to disable Windows 10 FastStartup as it makes G-Sync do wird things because of some issues on boot up.
MSI GT72vr with GTX1070 inside. Only a 75hz display but notisable over a 60hz and gsync makes it all buttery smooth. Zero issues with gsync.

Hey Linus, so I just bought a new laptop for my bachelor's. When I went to research laptops I was seriously looking at Razer because of your adoption, as well as Acer and whatever and I settled on a custom "evoc" clevo machine from hidevolution. I realize this is a custom build, and you did do that Sager video... But maybe do a video on one of these "desktop grade" laptops. It would have been helpful, and most of all fun. It seems everyone loves these overkill builds, and with my laptop topping 4 g's without even getting a 1080 (or two like I could have gotten) you can make a really overkill station. Just food for thought. Love the videos. Keep it up. We love you.
I have a V5 and I have not run into any problems with it, and Iv'e had it for a couple months now, I didint want to lug my entire rig from home to college, so i bought a Blade. It has been working great for me, hopefully I dont run into any issues

Linus, just saw this video. I have to agree about the 2 year warranty. I returned my brand new Razer Blade Stealth (gunmetal) quadcore i7 because I had bluetooth / Wi-Fi issues in addition to USB cutting out. Makes me sad they have the potential to be great and they're just falling short. I'm hoping next version (next year) has what you requested because it's exactly what I was thinking (1440p & 120hz+) for a gaming laptop. I've been on 144hz for two years and I simply can't go back to 60hz lol.
And people still hate on MacBook pros. They are very expensive but at least they’ve are made right.

I bought a Blade in April 2016 and it has been absolute hell.
And I switched to the thing from a Surface Book, a first gen product that wasn't exactly polished at the time.
The thing throttles like hell. Put it in a silver chassis, replace the keyboard and I might have mistaken it for a MacBook, down to the thermals and the throttling. It's been a little over a year Razer. This thing cost me 2.5 grand. I was expecting to use it for at least 3-5 years before replacing it.
The touchpad and keyboard lock up for some reason, the thing will melt if I run it at its native 3200x1800 resolution, the GPU and CPU both can't sustain clocks, the thing BSODs at the worst of times, and to top it all off, the battery isn't reporting charge properly anymore.
It's a real shame, I thought I'd finally found the right balance between a good display and performance for video editing, the ability to actually take the thing with you, and stability. Boy, was I wrong.
If I'd known that I'd have to deal with this much instability, I would've stuck with the Surface. At least it was innovative. I'd done it before, when the Surface Pro first come out. It was annoying and the touch cover was crap but at least it was innovative and felt good to use. It was a glimpse into the future.
The Razer Blade is nothing but a glorified MacBook now.

Razer tech support is the worst. My blade v5 was dropped, and the corner bent and scraped. I sent a detailed description of it all. They respond a week later asking if I turned it off and back on. They still have not given a shipping label for a repair. Coming up on 6 months now...

@@MiguelMartinez-np1qr I know its 3 years down the line, but yeah, here's the whole story. A round when I first commented, it got dropped, causing minor cosmetic damage to the bottom cover and palmrest. I wanted to see if I could either get parts to fix it, or pay them to fix it for me. They didn't offer this. I just gave up after ~8 months and moved on. About 4 months after that, the battery puffed up, popped the trackpad out of the chassis, and stopped working. It was in the warranty period, but they refused to replace it under warranty. I ended up buying a genuine battery myself, and fixing it. 5 months later, the same thing happened to the new (genuine) battery. I contacted Razer (who I got the battery from), and they basically told me to fuck off. I ended up getting a used battery on eBay to replace it, as they no longer would sell me a battery. 3 months after that, the VRMs basically blew up (lots of smoke, heavy burn marks inside of the case, and it caused the battery to blow up). I ended up parting it out. It had the 1800p touch screen, and beyond the bottom cover, it was cosmetically ok, so I was able to recoup most of my losses after you look at what it was worth with depreciation. Still a hugely poor user experience. That doesn't even get into the fact that it was a housefire thermally, was very loud, and the fact that the fans had bad bearings out of the box. I ended up replacing it with a Thinkpad P53 mobile workstation a few months after this (used an old Thinkpad W541 in the interim) which not only performed better (6-core i7-9850H + Quadro RTX 4000), but was built better and got better battery life, all while running cooler and quieter. I'm using it still today. Judging by current reviews Razer hasn't really fixed anything in their 15" Blade line and the just-launched totally new 14" line.

A good reason for 4K laptop screens is to remain consistency when moving windows between and across screens without screwing up proportions. Odd as it must seem to many people, it isn't all about playing games.

Bought my 2017 7700k blade in April/May. Only had one problem with the killer Wifi/Bluetooth card, opened it up and replaced it w an Intel card. Besides that it's all good. I would add a micro sd card slot and and magnetic charging port to your list.

Try finding a trackpad as good, try finding something with a macbooks battery life that also outperforms it's standby battery drainage. Try to find a laptop that survives multiple 2-meter-drops and keeps usable for 5 years like my most entry level 2012 macbook pro does..
And then try to find that all in just one device.
Also try to find one where the manufacturer doesn't take 3 years to acknowledge proven bad components for warranty. You'll find it everywhere else.

my first razor blade had issues, but they took care of me, shipped a device out to me overseas and let me return mine about 1 month later when everything was working and set up again.

Razer makes junk. I had a mouse of theirs and the rubber coating started coming off in a few weeks and the buttons stopped working within a few months. And that was with light used. On the other hand I've had a microsoft mouse that gets on and off use for over 8 years!
Microsoft mouses are junk though. Shocked yours even works after that long.

I cannot agree more.
For such an expensive purchase, I had so many issues within the first year and the laptop completely stopped functioning just past warranty. Not getting an extended warranty might have been my biggest purchase mistake ever.
And for a laptop with relatively so little power, a 4K display is only beneficial during normal work. 1440 screen might just be the good balance between 4K, QHD and 1080. It will be better than down scaling to 1080 from 4K and a native 1080 screen.
The bezel was not that big of an issue though as it allowed me to use the touch screen more effectively.

Well it's nice to know im not the only one with Blade issues. I also had the left-click not working thing, and the randomly turns on from sleep and heats up.
not to mention that the display profile is crap. To anyone that has the QHD model, just go get the adobe RGB profile and use that instead.

I've had my late 2017 Blade for about 6 months and I can't say that I've had any issues whatsoever *knocks on wood*. I've had a great experience with the product overall.
