    This is such a good video. Her videos have helped me understand the subtle art of wearing these evocative types of perfumes. One of the aims of perfume is to draw people closer in, not choke them out or run them off. While I don’t believe perfumes have the ability to make you more attractive I do think they can remind us of experiences and memories. When I first tried it, I thought it was going to be dusty and barn yard-y but it’s not like that at all. Is sweet and warm. I will say that the few times I wore it to work, and I mostly work with males, I had three men follow me back into my office and one who’s stomach kept growling. I wonder if the vanilla made him hungry. Haha

    No problem with you, it's just that we all fall in love with perfumes for different reasons. They might fit our mood or the spell we seek to cast on ourselves and others.

    Encre Noire is a woodsy, rooty vetiver, and Musc Ravageur is a thick, almost-chocolatey musk. Completely different.

    The most alluring review Katie has made so far. Extra points for 3:18 and 6:37. I smelled the EDP first time today. Katie's mentioning of Coca Cola nailed it in an ironical sense. Dear cinnamon: if I can skip you in the oil version and thus get straight to the point, the oil is a must.

  • @KatiePuckrikSmells
    @KatiePuckrikSmells  Před 14 lety

    @whosrudysteiner By and large, perfume companies no longer use real animal musk or civet or castoreum. It's considered cruel and unethical (even though the musk deer doesn't need to be killed to obtain its musk, if often is), and older pefumes with these ingredients have been reformulated with synthetic versions.

  • @KatiePuckrikSmells
    @KatiePuckrikSmells  Před 13 lety +1

    @trident3b Thanks for subscribing! I'd be wiling to bet that you'll go for Musc Ravageur. It has an *almost* gourmand feel to the spicy, creamy musk, and it's very full and rich a la the other perfumes you named.

    @LadyJeeks Thanks for your very kind remarks - you really put a little pep in my step!

    Hi Katie! I've finally grown on it, the snowy and dry winter air has definitely helped me re-evaluate this little gem! I converted a friend and his mother to it! I tried today Iris Poudre (gorgeous!), Une Rose (I have never smelled anything like that before!), Lipstick Rose (vintage rose as I love it). My nose was too saturated by such lush scents I couldn't remember Portrait of A Lady, Carnal Flower and Dans Tes Bras. Now that you hooked me on to Lady Vengeance, I can't get enough of rose!

    Musc Ravageur reminds me of a Honey Graham cracker with Cloves and Cinnamon. Definitely does not smell like Coca Cola.
    For that you want Outremer ( OO-Treh-Mare) Cola

  • @KatiePuckrikSmells

    @Furriner A few people do catch a chocolate niff to MR - could be the combo of the cinnamon with the fatty, rich musk that suggests chocolate.

  • @KatiePuckrikSmells
    @KatiePuckrikSmells  Před 14 lety

    We won't be able to cram all of your fave smells into one scent, but here are a few you could try:
    Christian Dior Escale à Pondichéry (tea, creamy sandalwood)
    By Kilian Liaisons Dangereuses (rose, crisp fruit, woodiness)
    Annick Goutal Ninféo Mio (grassy citrus, creamy fig)
    Annick Goutal Matin d'Orage (watery gardenia & magnolia)
    Guerlain Shalimar (creamy, smoky vanilla)
    Kenzo Amour (vanilla, incense)
    Keiko Mecheri Oliban (rose, incense)
    Amouage Homage Attar (rose & incense: total divinity!)

  • @KatiePuckrikSmells
    @KatiePuckrikSmells  Před 13 lety +1

    @akamahyar MR EDP features prominent lavender and clove, which the oil does not. For that reason, I find the EDP more typically masculine, but I won't call it "old man and weird."
    As for your second question, I think a guy's personality is the secret weapon in lady-killing; his fragrance is just the icing on the cake.

  • @KatiePuckrikSmells
    @KatiePuckrikSmells  Před 14 lety

    @flexwheelR Some people talk about getting chocolate from MR, but I don't smell it at all. Perhaps the fattiness of the musk plus cinnamon gives it a gourmand vibe? I zero into the ambery musk with MR, but nothing edible for me. Both Chergui and TV get more into gourmand territory, particularly TV.

    @akamahyar Smellwise, yes -- but it is oily, so it depends on whether you want to deal with the slickness.

  • @KatiePuckrikSmells
    @KatiePuckrikSmells  Před 13 lety

    @killaboscoville It's down to your personal preference, and whether you like wearing oils, which some people find messy and, well, oily.
    The oil goes straight to the heart and basenotes, missing out on the lavender/cinnamon/clove elements of the edp.

    @DODYDIOR Both are bold, womanly perfumes, and I guess it depends on what your teacher's fragrance preferences are. If she prefers something fresher or lighter, these wouldn't be the right choice. But they are both fine perfumes. Here are some more ideas:

  • @KatiePuckrikSmells
    @KatiePuckrikSmells  Před 14 lety

    @yumbear20 Good point - yes, where you apply perfume can depend on how strong it is. You can spray more liberally with a lighter fume: the inside of the arms, a spritz on your throat, maybe even on the back of your neck down the inside of your top (you get them coming and going that way). With a heavier perfume, just one of those moves is sufficient. To quiet down a really loud perfume, you might try a dab behind each knee!

    I think Musc Ravageur is absolutely a shared fragrance that works for both men and women. And I happily first chose it for myself years ago before I'd even heard that men enjoyed wearing it. I mean, it's a musk, fer cryin' out loud - that's been unisex since forever!
    MR is a bold, warm scent, typically right for colder weather, but I'd say the oil is more versatile, temp-wise. Regardless of the weather, though, I think of MR as a nighttime fragrance.
    Can't you order the oil online?

  • @KatiePuckrikSmells
    @KatiePuckrikSmells  Před 14 lety

    @Pandaspazzes It's all to do with the concentration of perfume oils in the product. Body sprays have the lowest concentration, then in ascending order:
    eau de cologne
    eau de toilette
    eau de parfum
    pure parfum
    The higher the amount of perfume oil, the more expensive, deeper, richer and longer lasting the fragrance typically is.

    I've not smelled Quizás, Quizás, Quizás, but my quickie research describes it as a fruity-floral with a passing resemblance to Narcisco Rodriquez For Her (which I can't really imagine, since that is a white floral/musk). As it happens, For Her (in all iterations, including the new Musc Intense) might be a good choice, and Sarah Jessica Parker Lovely hits the same kind of spot.
    Kenzo Flower is another wonderful sensual floral. A sophisticated fruity-floral choice might be Burbery Classic.

    @KatiePuckrikSmells I tried it on my skin today on my way home from work. I agree - it is a powerhouse if ever I smelled one! I swear one could clean floors with this stuff. I like it in the sense that I appreciate it's existence on this earth. As for wearing it I'd like the strength it had after I washed my hands. Do you have a recommendation for a milder fragrance of the same family? - preferably from a relatively main stream brand. I live in a developing country, fragrance-wise.

    @danniefoley2004 Hi DF - I'm gravitating to the "unplugged" style when I'm really familiar with the fragrance and have built up a relationship with it.
