@@John77Jaynot really, a capo is a useful tool to be able to play things that would be straight up impossible without 20 fingers, just take a look at a lot of math rock people, it’s also useful for changing keys/tuning.
To those asking how to strum, its pretty basic: Down, down, up, down, up, (hard) down, down up down up This is how I do it and it works fine with me, you can do whatever strumming pattern you want just as long as it suits the song, you can even use a strumming pattern of just downs and it'll still sound good

LuigiDelRey yeah capo's make things a little easier/more effective, but I've been told by some skilled guitarists that you should avoid using them as much as possible and work on bar chords and transposing, and if you put it above the seventh frett your playing the wrong instrument lol, I see this is from six years ago. Hope your still at it and awsomly improved by now🤘✌️
for us beginners Marty when using a capo could you explain what the chord actually is when you are forming eg a am chord , but its not really a am chord....and because of the capo what key the song is...thanks

Am shape, but the capo makes it Dm because the root is on 5th string 5th fret (wich is a D note)
