Education Secretary says children learn about choosing different gender identities

- Gillian Keegan said she has seen evidence that children are being taught in school about “choosing lots of different genders” and that gender is “fluid”.
Asked to give an example of non-anecdotal evidence she has seen of inappropriate material being taught in classrooms, the Education Secretary told BBC Breakfast: “It was actually more of a request as a result of that review to provide more clarity.”
Asked to give a specific example, Ms Keegan said: “There have been materials which I’ve seen … things like choosing lots of different genders and identities, and saying which ones of these are gender identities, gender spectrum, it can be a spectrum, it’s fluid, you can have different genders on different days.”
Asked whether there is evidence of this having been taught in classrooms, she said: “We’ve received evidence with those slides to say that they’ve been taught in classrooms.”

If they are not old enough to choose wether to smoke cigarettes or drink alcohol then they are certainly not old enough to choose their gender, a young girl is not yet a woman and a young boy is not yet a man so making them choose before they have even reached adulthood is a severe breach of their human rights, it’s a disgrace.
"Statutory Guidance" sounds good, but activists in teachers unions will still instruct their members to ignore it.
Then they will be removed. Statutory guidance sets out what schools and local authorities must do to comply with the law.
Why did this ever happen when the conservatives have been in power for 14 years?

Need to go back to real British living when no teacher had to tell children anything about sex education because they see it irl in all the animals and wildlife around them. Every person living in this modernity hellhole is screwed from the day they are born. If you aren't living in close relationship with nature there is no value, and humanity will ultimately self destruct because of it, as we are indeed doing. There will be nowhere left for anyone to teach anybody anything anyway soon enough.

I can sympathise with your understanding and I agree there are people who question their identity and struggle to feel accepted in society and as much as I would like to help, I unfortunately am not free to. If I express my concerns around this topic, I risk imprisonment as I live in Scotland! Should someone feel upset by my words regardless of my intentions, I could be arrested. I am not free to disagree or voice opinions within this narrative, for fear of being accussed falsely of hate speech. Scotland is becoming a scary place to live. 😔

genderfluid people exist. people don't choose their gender identity, it chooses them. The idea is just to give more detailed language people can use to more accurately describe the vast spectrum of ways humans can experience gender. Decades of medical research has supported the theory that gender identity is a real thing in our brains, separate from chromosomes or external appearance of the body, and millions of people throughout history have expressed this same experience of being the opposite of their assigned gender at birth or just falling between the arbitrary categories westerners made up millennia ago before we even figured out the earth is round. I'm fine with this topic being described as contested or controversial because it is, but to hide this history from young people or punish teachers for talking about it is censorship.
There will be students in every one of these classes who are trans, non binary, genderfluid etc and this information could save them years of torment and confusion as well as help reduce bullying, all things that could help reduce the disproportionate rate they become victims of violence and suicide. But at the same time PSHE/sex ed classes have always a joke anyways and any kid with internet access will know more about the subject than their teachers by the time it's introduced to the curriculum. This is just a symbolic gesture for Tories to try and win favor from people who have fallen for the media fear-mongering and hatred.
I agree with you, but this is not something that's being taught to 9 year olds. She's lying. And she will never be able to provide any evidence to support her clap trap. It's the same thing we see playing out in the USA. It appeals to the bigots, the permanently outraged, the gullible and the hard of thinking. But more importantly, it isn't true.
