    So much of American industrial design of the 1960's really was superb and timeless, like the muscle cars, Airstreams, toasters... and this beauty. And quality was usually excellent as well. Anyway, every kid in my neighborhood had one of these (I'm 50+), mine was this color, and, yes, it does choke me up to look at this.

    I just bought one of these for 160. ! So stoked! I've always wanted one, but as a kid I got a huffy :/ still Kool but no stingray! Can't wait for spring to ride it. The guy I bought it from was super bummed, he really didn't want to sell it but needed the money.

    There was a Harley Davidson dealership in Bound Brook NJ
    Williams Harley Davidson ,ran by two brothers ,Joe and Otto Williams
    They had to give up selling bicycles sometime in early 1980's when Harley was going thru a remake .
    Williams Harley dealership was sold and now located in Lebanon NJ

    Outstanding looking bike! You're not kidding about the handle bars. It's very hard to find them without scratches, the caps on the pedals are always hard for me.

    good day beastly82fox, as a collector myself you are dead on right about all you described about this wonderful 68 apple krate except for the front atom hub. what you mostly see one those are fully polished(aluminum) & not rechromed restoration on the atom front hub.i know because i have 3 of them done by my great friend james williams(krate restorer) out in cali who helps me alot with my restoration on these fine bikes for my collection. VERY NICE BIKE and also your collection of krates. WELL DONE!!

    I got a Schwinn Orange Krate for my 12th birthday in 1968 . It cost around $119.00 new. Exactly like this apple krate but orange of course;-) No front fender and a slick on the back.

    Wow! What a sweet ‘68!
    I recently got a ‘68 Lemon Peeler, it has the pogo, the 1080 caliper, the pat pend crank sprocket, and ‘68 derailer, but it was a repaint. It’s a BD Feb. 68.
    Have you seen a BD or earlier Lemon Peeler in your travels?

    what's a good place to purchase an original Schwinn 68-72 stingray?

    I had a blue one. It was so great, untill it got stolen. Wish I still had it, it was a great ride. Leave it as is, use steel wool on any rust. Better original.

    Eye stabber brake levers?

    • @Beastly82Fox
      @Beastly82Fox  Před 5 lety +1

      It's the name typically given to the earlier red dot weinmann brake levers due to how he end of the lever looks. In nature it has a sharper edge on the end. In 1969 the design was changed to go from the sharper ended levers to a lever that has a ball/sphere shape on the end of it.
