3:31 I Love That Voice Message.

  • @achannelwithnopurpose1977

The laziness of installation was hilarious. They could’ve easily called in Simplex to install a retrofit 4100ES for newer devices that may not of worked with the 4100+. Plus, the panel with the extra 4100 cards is actually known as a 4100 transponder. Transponders are like a level below a networked system and are mainly used in big complexes (like factories for example) that don’t need a full on network but still need additional equipment to cover the building. They operate communications with the panel on the RUI circuit.

Problem with that is that simplex today is a shell of its former self in terms of services. If you called them in to retrofit, the installation will probably be just as lazy as it was before. Simplex's service today is kind of shitty.

@@drum-corps-fan The main issue is Tyco/JCI’s business model. It is setup to where you have to use proprietary services because JCI wants to make all the money they can out of their products even if they have to rip off customers. Personally I think being proprietary for monetary gain is counterproductive because contractors and customers prefer to buy brands they can easily work on without complications. In fact, Simplex systems get replaced with other brands like EST and Honeywell because they are less proprietary and overall have a lot better servicibility options (I do know EST is still somewhat proprietary but they are more open and friendly to 3rd party distributors and openly offer courses to be certified to work on their system. Simplex forces you to work for them in order to get certified). Simplex is you either do it their way or no way. Another similar proprietary brand known as Siemens is even worse. At least the one thing simplex gets right is developing advanced and reliable solutions that actually work very well and have a lot of useful features other products don’t. Plus, these features can be accessed by anyone. It’s just the fact that anything over hardware repairs/maintenance requires simplex to get involved (which also comes with a bigger price tag) that drives customers away. If Simplex completely drops their proprietary behavior like with their new “Foundation Series”, they’ll not only get more business (and keep the business they still have), but race back to the top considering their products are some of the best and advanced stuff the fire alarm industry can offer.

@@drum-corps-fan Yeah, & who's to blame for that? (among many other things) None other than one Johnson Controls International.

@@TheCarson116 Yeah, JCI is running Simplex into the ground. JCI has even run the Johnson controls line of thermostats into the ground. Johnson controls used to be a pretty reputable company at one time, but over the last 20ish years, they kind of just said screw it in terms of customer service and reliability.

A lot of the buildings at the University of Akron have a Simplex 4100 series system. The library I work at has the same signaling devices, but on a notifier system.

This is a pretty cool system! Why were so many strobes out of sync and some devices in the gym not working? Also seems like a lot of different candelas. Do they still make these Wheelock Speaker Strobes?

Neat video, the whoop tone is cool. I can’t stand that message. It’s cool and all but in terms of functionality it makes no sense for most buildings. “Walk to the assigned re entry floor or main lobby” is not correct, I don’t know why it’s so common
