As far as Italian bikes, I have owned a ducati 860, moto morini 500 camel, laverda 3cl 1000, cagiva 650, and currently have a 1989 Moto Guzzi Mille GT 1000 and a 2013 Moto Guzzi Stone 750. Have owned several German bikes to include BMW and Zundaps. Grew up with British bikes--meaning Triumph and BSA. Have never been interested in Harley. Owned several Suzuki's to include 2-stroke models and the Wankel rotary 750. The Moto Guzzis have been my favorite above all the rest. Quirky, reliable, tractor-like in that the Japanese "refinement" is not there--but if you love just being connected to machinery and sound--Moto Guzzi!--mike battle

I have to say that your bike is absolutely stunning. Looks smashing. I love classic wheels usually and I prefer the older v7 but yours... looks just perfect as is. If I would have any space left in a garage I would seriously consider buying one.

Great review So good I bought one myself, took your advice with the crash bars and ordered off eBay. The other Add on was a rear carrier from Moto Guzzi, a small screen and fender extender from powerbronze. The bike gives so many smiles per mile, brings back memories of the V50ll I owned in the mid 80’s It definitely has enough power for today’s roads, comfortable and full of character. No rider modes, no self cancelling indicators, no auto lights from DRL to headlights , no Apple CarPlay. I also own a Honda NT1100 which great with all the tech, but the Guzzi is real old school motorcycle. I’ve always said everyone must ride a Guzzi at least once in their riding career. Keep up the good work with your entertaining and honest videos

I sold my T120 awhile ago, and was looking for something a little lighter, less hp. (I’m 64 years old). The V7 850 checked all the boxes for me (I wasn’t aware of the Special Edition @ the time or I would’ve gone for that). Purchased the Stone, and added Agostini pipes, and bar end mirrors, absolutely love the bike. Huge tank capacity, and shaft drive. I think it’s a great value for the $. Rarely see a Guzzi in the States. I agree re: single dial, easy to read, and I don’t miss cleaning the spokes I had on the Bonneville.

To be honest I love the bike but dislike the speedometer assembly shame they didn’t give it both speedo & tachometer plus the same power as the V85 would have been nice. Still a thing of beauty and I look forward to further content 👍.

It is a great Classic ride. I purchased the same bike last month from Motopia New Mexico here in Albuquerque. Been riding for over sixty years and the Guzzi really puts a kids smile on my face every time I fire it up. The only other ride that’s in the same class is the Kawasaki W series bikes. Yep my W650 and W800 also keeps me smiling. Ride those miles with many smiles amigo and if you ever make it to Albuquerque the coffee (or PG TIPS) is on me.

Great to see your 'new bike excitement'! I still prefer the headlamp and twin dash set up of the Special but agree that tubeless tyres are much better to live with, especially when you get a roadside puncture. The colour scheme and exhausts look fantastic. Look forward to seeing your maiden voyage video soon.

Great choice, I've had a V7 Stone Centenario since 2021 on which I've done 4000 miles, all of which have been great. I'd recommend a fender extender (along with the luggage and engine bars) as that tiny front guard doesn't do much to stop a wet road grit-blasting crap all over the bike.

Think I'd still be tempted to put a centre stand on it as it makes it so much easier for checking and changing oil, cleaning, doing tyre pressures etc. I thought you might have bought it from Thirsk or Sheffield seen as their nearer you, but can see why you didn't when I had look at deal's. Will you be going too Nottingham for service work?

Beautiful bike, I agree it would be even better with the twin clocks but it's defiantly a looker. I obviously love transverse V twins as my two bikes are a CX500 (1978 original plastic maggot) and a Moto Guzzi Bellagio and I have to say I love them both. I'm sure you will become a Moto Guzzi fan, what I love about them is people always love to talk to you about your bike. There are also Guzzi owner clubs all over the country where there is loads of knowledge should you ever need it. Enjoy your beautiful bike, I think it even looks nicer than the V7 Stone Corsa.

It looks lovely in the gloss black. Shame they didn't paint the rear mudguard in a gloss finish, but there you go.
I like the instrument console. The round look suits the style of bike, and being offset looks more classy than being stuck in the middle.

Moto Guzzi may not have the longest running name but I'll guess they are the longest running from the original factory currently & still hand built solely in Italy.

That's a lovely bike, Dave! Personally, I prefer the twin clock arrangement, but cast wheels are better. I too thought that 2021 Special in the blue colour was a beautiful-looking bike; pick of the bunch, that one! I agree on the need for engine bars and, as others have said, a fender extender for the front; have both on my Breva 750. It pays to warm the motor for a minute or two first thing, as it makes the initial gearshift easier. Also, I've found that, on the move, pre-loading the lever results in smoother, quieter shifts. It's ironic that the bike doesn't come with a centrestand, given that Guzzi reputedly invented them; one for mine costs $500 here in Oz... Anyway, enjoy; I know that you will! 👍

Thats a very nice bike . When i saw this bike at the show it realy looked impresive . I love the engine note . I still think that the Royal Enfield is great value for money for those of us what cant afford to by a top brand name . It has retro looks and a modern twist . I am going to get a test rid on one and maybe i will sell a couple of my bikes to buy brand new . The first time since the 80s. Happy christmas to all and happy biking for the new year.👍👍👍👍

It's gorgeous Dave 😮 Happy Christmas to you 🎄🤗. We did try one of these (standard black model) before buying the T100, but the demo bike had so many electronic issues it put us off unfortunately 😔. Looking back it was a real shame because like you I thought it had bags more character. Perhaps it was just an unlucky example. If the model you have had been available at the time it would have been my choice too. I can easily forgive the LCD clock and cast wheels and it looks perfect to my eyes. The character extends to the gearbox too. It's a noisy, yet positive gear selection which rewards an unhurried gear change. It's a very engaging bike and something you'll come to love. And we all need to slow down a bit and appreciate our surroundings a little more.

Agree with slowing down and appreciate life and riding at a slower pace.Im lucky enough to have reached an age where I'm already doing this and i consider myself blessed to have reached this milestone in my life.

A couple of points Dave. I’m glad that special riders are more “ refined “ 😁😁 and I can see poor old Eddie thinking “ why is this guy talking to himself all the time “. Can’t wait until mine arrives. The BMW have balance shafts now so it’s not as noticeable. It does look very nice I have to say especially the gloss finish.

Cheers Pal yes you are definitely more refined 😂 Yes I love the gloss…Matt black tank and panels on a bike doesn’t tickle my pickles! 😁

Love the bike Dave, like my GoldStar it's got character by the buckle load. The offset clock doesn't offend me, i just think it looks strange and wonder why they didn't centralise it. That seat looks really comfortable and i do like that it's air cooled. Looking forward to your upcoming videos on it.

Not only is the clock off set , for no good reason it seems , but it is turned a way from level . Looks like a moron designed it and it was installed by someone left their glasses at home . I love these bikes , but I would want the dual clocks and alloy wheels which are not a combination Guzzi sell . I could do with out the Special's chrome , it is really nice , but it would probably suffer corrosion especially with me being slow to polish anything ! So a Stone with two clocks please Guzzi ! And maybe that variable cam timing and power of the V85 engine (for 2024) , real Brembo disks to go with the calipers and fully adjustable suspension thank you . Almost perfect otherwise ! .

Looks very nice, according to Eddie seems to smell nice, and doubtless sounds lovely too. Personally I would like the dial to be central rather than offset, but with the Super Meteor also similarly offset it probably feels familiar.

Stunning bike. The best V7, for certain. I'd have one. Love the offset single clock. The whole thing is vastly superior to any Triumph or RE. Givi luggage! Only 8,200 on the road. Amazing. Nick

    Good afternoon Dave.
I think you have a lovely bike there and I was trying to evaluate why Moto Guzzis attract their following.
I owned a 1200 sport at the same time as my ST 1300 Pan European, the Pan was a supreme tourer, comfortable, fast, handled far better than a bike of that bulk had any right to was ultra reliable BUT, the Guzzi just made you feel special when you rode it or even just stood and looked at it.
I suppose that is what's called charisma.
Happy Christmas and a health and prosperous New Year. Stephen

Great review and fantastic bike! I have the V7III Special and it is my love, but I know yours is even better. You didn't mention the embroidered seat cover......who embroiders their brand onto a seat? And you have not had it long, but maintenance is a breeze.....take off a cover and the valves are right there! Air filter under seat, 5 minute job. And the tank holds 5.5 US gallons! And it is low in the frame. But the feel and torque of that engine, with all the power in the 3.500 to 6, 700 range, just where I want to ride.......not in the 6,000 to 10,000 range of so many other bikes.... superb! Great looking bike too!

Beautiful bike. I have a 2016 Eldorado an it's an awesome bike. One of the things i like about my Guzzi is with a windshield, grip cover and electric warmer and that big fat engine hanging out the side, my riding can be extended further into winter. Kind of hot in the summer but being able to ride more months out of the year is a plus.

That's a right Bobby Dazzler Dave. I'm a bit Guzzi fan, so I totally agree with your reasons for purchasing as I ent through a similar process before buying mine. The only issue with buying a Guzzi is the lack of dealers, I had to travel to North Wales (Denbigh) as they were my nearest dealer.

@thebingleywheeler I think there used to be a dealer called Cob and Jagger or something like that!. I remember holidaying in York in the early 90s and seeing a Guzzi Cali 3 in a shop window in Shipley(?). The dealer did try to sell me said machine, but I was pretty broke (still am!), and i'm sure it was Cob and Jagger or Jagger and Cob. Those days, I rode an ex Met police BMW R80/7 with an RT fairing and Krauser panniers, which I fitted after taking off the police issue Cravens

Always loved a Guzzi and the Stone is a cracker! Nearly bought an 850 le mans back in the day but it just felt too small physically. Ended up with a Yamaha 1.1. Looking forward to seeing the stone out and about, and I've made an appointment to talk to someone who says they can help me get over my issues with the instrument positioning. :) Congratulations mate, beautiful bike.

You're correct the Guzzi Lemans was a very compact motorcycle and quite small by some of todays offerings. I'm relatively small in stature....more so in 1978.... so it was okay. Its distinctive profile was beautiful ...in my opinion....

I hear you Brian. I tested the Ducati 900 supersport as well and fell in love, but it was the same problem. I'm not huge but they were just too small, but what bikes they were! I ended up loving my Yammie though, a competent cruiser with teeth like a great white when you needed them. Happy days.@@brianperry

Just sold my V7 850 stone and bought a 350 classic reborn 🤔 although while musing the pro and cons of the enfield, I knew my guzzi was still for sale locally... It took a lot of willpower to stop me buying it back... lots of sellers remorse... It definitely won't be my last guzzi....
FYI, the gearbox is very clunky for the first 2000 miles it improves a lot the more miles you do... Enjoy your new bike, I'm more than a little bit envious.

I have one & you won’t be disappointed. It’s a great all rounder with a perfect engine power delivery from 3k up to the red zone. But happy enough round town in the 20 mph zone. Only niggle I had was the cheap front disk. The bobbin spring washers are too weak and after a few hundred running in miles rattled around on the bobbins so much I replaced it with an EBC disk.. just keep an ear out for it, you maybe ok. But I’m not complaining as the bike itself as a whole, well you’d forgive it almost anything. She’s a peach of a bike. And I’ve owned a good few in my 45 years continuously on 2 wheels
