Ayyy, read my question! Many thanks!! I ended up putting money down on a 900 Rally Pro and it was supposed to arrive next month or February. The regional Triumph rep made an effort to pull one early, and it just got delivered to the dealer. I should be taking delivery of it tomorrow (making it a Christmas bike)! Thanks for everything!

A great review. One thing I'd like to mention (as I own a Tiger 900 GT Pro) - The Tiger is noticeably lighter than AT (my friend which we'be been traveling together owns one so i can compare directly)

Thank you for the answer. I just bought the Rally Pro anyway and I'm taking it on a road trip through Big Bend in the spring with my wife, so I'll let you know how it is.
I have a Tiger 900 GT. My heated grips are great unless you are wearing heavy gloves in temps below 45 degrees F. For aftermarket parts, Touratech makes fantastic accessories. My favorite aftermarket part is the Sargent seat.
I am also 250Ibs all geared up. I did both the springs AND revalved the forks and shock on my Tiger 800 XCX. If you just install stronger springs, they will overpower the OEM valves. The stronger the springs, the more critical it is to match the valves.

The rally pro setting allows you to completely shut off front abs. Off-road mode shuts off rear abs and makes the front abs less intrusive. The ability to shut off the front abs was one of the reasons I went with the Triumph over the Africa Twin. A few years ago a buddy of mine found out the only way to stop an Africa Twin going down a rocky mountain side is to shut the bike off. Of course he figured this out after he ran off the trail once because the abs wouldn't allow the front brake to slow the bike so he kept gaining speed. My 800 Tiger XCX had the ability to shut off the abs completely and I had no problems going down the trail.

Ian: Well, based very significantly by your reviews (for which I have great respect), I just put a deposit on a 900GT low. I'm old (74) and with very short inseam. This bike is one of a VERY small group of bikes that are viable for me. The points you bring out helped me decide, thanks again for the effort you put into all of your reviews.
The left hand switchgear cable can be common enough. There is a little tab on the switch cube which should have a cable tie around it holding the cable in as they are just push fit.
FYI, I have a new Tiger 900 and the heated grips are great. I run them on high to start and have to turn them down to the lowest setting in just a couple of minutes, even around freezing.
Thank you Ian for your observations. It does help in aligning choices with intended purpose. For me as a planned 80/20 road/off-road, refinement and on road comfort is very important after selling our touring bike. To have some off-road capability is good enough. I have a very modified XR650L for more serious off-road/ADV & BDRs. The TRP or TGTP might be a nice ride in my future.
The Triumph, AT & the VStrom 800 DE are on my list. If the windshield was adjustable & had cruise control I think I would go with the VStrom.
Good to have these follow up videos. What’s your inside seam measurement? That will be helpful for seat height challenges and your overall height is good for comments on the screen protection. I’m 5’10” but shorter legs at 29”, so seat height is very important. Would be really helpful to see you sitting on the bikes you review once we know your inseam.
I struggle even on a lowered to 830mm T7, however I tried a Rally Pro and even with a higher seat it was actually easier to get both feet (not flat) on the ground. Actual test ride next week, so will see how the COG is. Keep up the good work.

One thing about the AT (in my experience); the seat is horrible (2020). I was lucky if I could make it 1 hour on it. Aside from that, I loved the AT.

I have 3 comments relating to questions Ian responded to (I own a 2020 Rally Pro):
1 - I have no issues with any distortion on the windscreen, as I look over it, not through it, even at the highest setting, and I’m only 5’9”, but you’re probably seeing it from the camera level, not eye level. And zero buffeting!
2 - The heated grips are plenty warm, at least down to 35 degrees (F); in fact, I think the medium setting is still a little too warm.
3 - I could see the Honda being more suited for a pillion with the DCT, but the Quickshifter on my RP is very, very smooth, and should be fine for any passenger.

thank you for the interesting and useful information. it seemed to me that the Tiger was made with more attention to detail than Africa. also note that Africa is more suitable for those over 6 feet. Tiger is slightly narrower and lower.

Update. I picked up my rally pro 900 a few days ago. So far I've only ridden on the road and I am truly enjoying it so far. It does feel like a very refined touring motorcycle.

How the tiger year later. I’m also in Canada and looking for new tiger. Just not sure if reliable or dealership cost of parts expenses ect. Any regret ?
BMW parts and accessories are more expensive compared to Triumph. Again the 900 class is more than the 700 and is simply above, therefore a comparison withe the little Tenere is not fair. If you simply look for the best price entry into ADV the Tenere is it. The lightweight and agility will make up for the less power of the engine. Best reliability is Honda and Yamaha before BMW and Triumph, it is just a fact. All modern bikes are manufactured well and should hold up decent enough. As far as the AT goes I am not a fan of the DCT and especially in the dirt, the manual with the quick shifter rocks especially in the dirt. Realistically most people push their AT on the road and especially with a passenger, where the DCT shines and makes sense. That is my two cents. Great content from this channel I love it.
Great video, as always. Based a lot on your original Rally review (and 100's of other videos and reviews), I purchased a '22 Rally Pro. I love the looks of it over the AT (just my opinion), and just seemed to fit what I think my riding style will be on it. I wasn't looking for hard core off road (I have another bike for that), but I wanted something I could take off road, something that was fairly nimble and was also good on the road. I think the Rally Pro will fit this perfectly, and allow me to go two-up occasionally when needed.
I don't have many miles on it yet, but so far I love it. I am a bit of a heavy rider, so I'm interested in the suspension upgrade and/or adjustment comments. I will definitely ride it for a bit before considering any expensive changes. The dealer told me to put 1,000 miles on it before I even attempt to adjust the suspension the first time. Is there any validity to that?
Regarding fit & finish, I think it is superb - the build quality and attention to detail seems really good. For me, the hand grip heat is more than adequate - so far I haven't used it on high and haven't needed to. Overall, I'm really happy with the Rally Pro so far.

Heated grips on my 900 are thermonuclear. They are at their hottest setting when you first turn them on.

Any chance of doing a direct comparison on the Norden 901 and the Tiger 900 RP? They seem like the two most comparable new bikes out. Personally love the look of each and the features sets seem bang on (little things like backlit controls make a difference when benighted on a long day!). Really like a lot about the 900 RP but struggling to justify the $3k difference in price!!

I haven’t tried the Tiger, I did try the 901. Being me from Portugal the 901 it’s unridable in summer due to the excessive heat to the knees/legs from the radiador fans. For me that is a decision maker.

Ian, you need to focus on the heat. Atas DCT was very hot and nobody warned me about it. I am choosing tiger 900 because it is the less heated engine on my tests

Not a question on the 900 specifically but you were talking about spring rates for the guy that was 250lbs, could you do a video on that? I am 210 and wondering if that is something that I should look at. I currently have a 2018 Super Tenere ES but will probably switch over to the new 1200 Tiger when they come out.

Ian I have a 2023 Tiger 1200 GT Explorer. I love the engine and power and many things about this bike. Is the BMW 1250GS a way better bike and would you pick the GS over the GT Explorer? I ride on the road not the trails.
I own the tiger900 gt. The heat from the fans get hot enough to make me move my legs away from the tank. Also my friends 900 gt pro was set up by a new guy, too many issues, including the bike shutting itself off on the freeway several times. The shop said “ they couldn’t replicate it” but it hasn’t done again since. My guess, the new guy that set it up, never tightened the battery, I do love my gt and have 11,000 miles in 9 months.

I think it’s only fair to mention the very low score Triumph is getting on owner satisfaction surveys as a brand.
In my book it’s absolutely not comparable to a comparable Japanese bike.
It’s not the same getting this bike for free to test and investing your hard earned cash to purchase one.

Hi every one I know this material was done 11 months ago but for the heated grips the Triumph change it in 2022 version or they did updated the grips those are hot like hell and I am living in UK
The 250lb rider just needed to up his preload on the rear and increase the damping front and rear and the stock spring will be fine. The load capacity on this bike is around 460lbs, it can well cope with his weight.
Most suspensions need stiffer springs for over 200 plus pound rider with gear

@@IAmYourReflection True, but unless you at least test the limits of what you have first you could be throwing money down the drain. Simply saying change the spring without at least attempting to adjust the preload and damping seems a little off the cuff. It may or not be the case the poster needs a stronger spring rate. You could throw in a stronger spring rate and subsequently find the damping setup acts poorly on that spring rate. I had to go for a +20mm spring on my Africa Twin as the sag was far too much for my solo weight, but that is because I tried everything with the current adjustment first and it wouldn't work for me. However, my Tiger 1200 takes two of us plus luggage, a combined 270kg (595lbs), 46kgs over the bikes rated load capacity and it absolutely blitzes it. Rear SAG is increased of course but not so much handling is adversely compromised as preload autos to max and I set the damping manually ~ 90% max front and back has the chassis well controlled over bumpy and undulating country roads, I wouldn't change a thing on the suspension, it is superb.

Hi Ian. It’s been a year since this video and a few things have changed - you’ve moved to a KTM Adventure when in this video you weren’t sold. I do mostly highway but a little off-road and I’m really confused between the F900XR, Tiger 900 Rally Pro, 890 Adventure or even Multistrada V2S. Any opinions on what would be a Goldilocks ride for me at 250lbs weight? Thanks!

KTM 890 Rally, which I own.
Ok I got a question. I am a bit on the heavier side and 345,. 6 feet tall. Obviously a Honda cb500x would be too small and tiger 900 might need springs to be stronger. So, say the Africa twin, tiger 1200 rally pro, 1250 gs adventure, how much spring compression is too much for the bike to tell me I need stronger springs? 25mm? 50mm drop? Rider only, no luggage.
I got a BMW F850GS instead. The Triumph Tiger 900 Rally was too tall. I wanted a Ducati DesertX but it would be too tall plus they have no idea when it would come in if I ordered one.
I’ve got a 2022 Husky Norden 901. It’s got everything the new Expedition has, except the heated seat and suspension upgrade. I don’t want them. I’m thinking of trading it for this 900 Tiger Rally. How do you think they compare, and would you trade?
I have zero experience with Triumph Bike Reliability... I've owned YAMAHA HONDA KAWASAKI with my old KZ 1000 & KLR being the most reliable of the 3 ........ Im now Looking to replace my KLR Gen. 2 with either a HONDA AT 1100 Manuel or a Tiger 900 Rally........ Which would YOU go with and why between these two??? I ride 90 % pavement 10% dirt roads .. 10,000 trouble free miles on my TRP 50-50 riding in Colorado. I've had an AT, KLR, 690, 1200 and 800 Tiger. The TRP beats them all as a do all bike. These nit picks make me laugh... Screen distortion and weld perfection? Really? Aftermarket is huge on TRP. Grips are fine on my bike. Quick shifter better than auto trans on AT IMO. Tiger weighs a few pound more than T7 and way more bike.
Silly isn't it. And their bikes will never see the dirt lol

That GS looks so damn beautiful. Honestly, even more than a sports bike. XD. Too tall and too expensive for me though. Also, Im super interested in how the T plane crank is compared to the more even firing order. I started out on an INline 4 as my first bike. So the idea of having a non smooth engine is kind of a bummer.
But, the norden is a ktm in disguise, so same reliability problems! Chinese engine!
