River Severn WINTER BARBEL Fishing at BAA Quatford.. RISING Water Level & BRIGHT Conditions!

- Join me for my first Barbel fishing session of 2024 on the banks of a rapidly rising River Severn after yet another named storm, which have blighted winter river fishing conditions late in 2023/early 2024.
The Severn rose 1.8m in the preceding 24 hours prior to this session with the Bridgnorth gauge showing 2.45m when the session started.
I decided upon BAA Quatford to find a few slacks to target fish seeking respite from the rising river levels.
The parking for BAA Quatford can be found at WV15 6QL - I parked at Tony's Diner making sure that I asked for permission to park before I started my session.

The equipment I used during this session is as follows -
Korum Barbel Rod 1.75lb TC
Shimano ST4000 Baitrunner
12lb Korum Barbel line
10lb Flourocarbon Hooklength
2.5oz & 4oz gripper leads
Terminal Tackle - Korum Camo Bolt/Run Kit
Hook - Size 8 Korum Grappler
Hookbaits - Cubed Luncheon Meat coated in Garlic Powder (coated the night before the session)

Well done for braving the elements and the flooded river. What a beautiful winter day with a lovely barbel on your first cast. With the floods and now the cold snap I have not wet a line since a three day trip to the Wye in late October. Enjoyable video, thanks Rob!

Brilliant Rob. Great start to 2024. Any plans to fish the Brewery Inn stretch in the future? Awesome video of it previously but hopefully you'll catch the Severn just right if you do and catch something a little larger than the "splasher" next time .

Excellent vid Rob. Those 'awkward' swims can be really productive can't they, particularly on hardfished stretches. Caught some good fish in those swims with rigs hanging overhead in the trees! 😂

long time ago in 97 {showing my age 😂 fished casters and hemp ,old school ,took 27 barbel ,5 cracking chubb , arm was sore ,best day of my life ,great vid keep um coming 👍

Look forward to your videos Rob, always very 'polished'. It's quite some time since I was able to get out on the banks myself but the hair rig kits look a bit OTT to me....I used to just use a baiting needle to pull the hair through and it was held in place with a piece of spaghetti or something similar...never used to come off 🤷♂

I don’t know the Avon as well as the Severn being honest and it’s further from where I live - There is a challenge there to get to know it better though.. I’ll see what I can get done soon 👍

I might give a section of the BAA a fish for Barbel this Friday, it would be a break from Pike fishing... Unless I also take a pike rod 😆😆

Hi Rob, Thanks for another great vlog. I've recently joined BAA and wondered if you've fished Arley left bank? It says on-line that it's a pay car park but free to BAA members. Do you know how this works? cheers.
Cheers Chris - I know the right hand bank at Arley.. You can park behind your peg there.. I’ve not been the left hand back for a few years though so need to get down there soon. Hopefully someone else who’s been more recently can help comment on the latest parking for that side of the Arley section 👍
@@RobsAngling hi chris if you park on the rightbank carpark free to baa members short walk to footbridge to access left bank .there is a carpark left by the way .notsure if free .been a long time since fished arley but like every bit of the severn catch it right pays dividends 👍
Just turn up and park Chris. I tend to leave my BAA guidebook on the dashboard. A car sticker would be nice but not sure these are available. I've fished it a handful if times on my trips up from the Dorset coast. Good stretch. Some good floodwater swims! 👍

What weight gripper lead did you need to use in flood Rob?

@@RobsAngling Hi Rob, managed just the one but a good fish weighed 9-5-0 level was perfect but it was quite clear had it on banded 10mm halibut pellet with a pva bag of mixed smaller pellets drizzled in krill oil.

Hi, you can park at one of the 2 cafes I showed at the start of the video. Provided you ask - They’re usually very accommodating. There is also a limited number of parking spaces next to the main road in a lay-by area. To access the river - You follow Simon’s Lane down the hill and follow the footpath to the left which takes you to the riverbank. Good luck 👍🎣

Why are so many BAA waters no night fishing?
It’s likely restricts from the land owners I would imagine 👍
