Author Leslie Ferguson: "When I Was Her Daughter" in the American Center Ústí nad Labem

Leslie grew up on the streets of LA with a mother who suffered from multiple mental illnesses. Leslie and her brother grew up in a whirlwind of chaos, constantly wondering what their mother would do next - would she kill herself? Her children? Force them to steal groceries? Light the house on fire? Hear Communist messages through the broken TV antennae symbolizing assault?
Leslie chronicles her experiences growing up sometimes homeless, sometimes living with relatives, going through foster families, and finding the ability to understand her world and define herself outside the shadow of her mother's demons.
