This happened to me the other day. I almost called the hubby to do a service check, or worse, buy a new washer. I couldnt find anything that explained how to troubleshoot in a manner I would understand(most were just saying check this or that but didnt say HOW). Then I found your video. It saved me a lot of money. I was able to test and confirm that I just needed "dogs". Ordered some on amazon for $5. THANK YOU!

Came home from work and my wife had a problem with the washing machine. Found your video and went to work. It was a little tough to get it apart (it was all gunked up) but it worked just like you said. It was late on a Saturday and the appliance parts store was closed, so I took my Dremel an cut some teeth into the dogs, and it works like a charm. Great how-to video!

Thank you for this instructional video Weezie. I was doing laundry this afternoon when I noticed the agitator wasn't working on the machine. I immediately went online to research possible causes where I came upon your video. What I ended doing in the interim was re-grooving the 'dogs' with an exacto knife, something I would NOT recommend anybody do unless you have a very steady hand, while we placed the order for the 'agitator dogs' online. The agitator is working okay but will replace it still.

Thanks for video. The agitator in my 25+ year old washer was broken for awhile now, so I thought I’d give CZcams a try to see if I could find a fix (worked for me a few years back when my dryer belt broke). Your diagnosis for broken dogs matched what I was encountering and it looked like your washer was identical to mine, so I thought I’d be off to the races. Sure enough, the dogs in my washer were completely shattered and only cost $6 dollars to replace.
The assembly was somewhat the same, at least to start -- same cap over the nut, and 7/16 inch socket to loosen. But a bit more complicated in that I had to pull both lower and upper parts of the agitator out to fix things, and there was no collar to hold the new dogs in place. I would have used a bit of Play-Doh to hold the dogs until I reassembled upper and lower pieces back together, but didn’t have any on hand, so used small bits
of masking tape instead. With a bit of agitation, I figure they’ll quickly disappear in the wash. Anyway, all’s well again … maybe for the next 25 years.
    Thanks again for sharing.

Watched the video, inspected the dogs and found them to be worn out and broken. The dogs are engaged when you turn the upper agitator counter clockwise which should turn the lower agitator together. This will help with troubleshooting the dogs as a possible issue. Pulling the assembly as directed on the video will give you the best diagnosis. Ordered the parts on Amazon and made the repairs. I resorted to some brute force to separate the two parts of the agitator, then was able to proceed with the rest of the job. I am mechanically & technically challenged. BUT it was an easy fix. Just like you showed. Thanks so much!!

Thanks for posting...helped me fix something that I got an estimate that said "too costly to repair".

My husband is in Afghanistan and we only see him twice per year. That being said, if something breaks at home, I either have to figure it out or call someone. Thanks to videos like your's, I don't have to pay someone out the nose to fix something simple!
