    You could pretty much see the decline in her skating the instant she had the lead in the short program at the 2016 World Championships. She dropped off the podium in the long program by missing one major element... and she never, ever, ever skated the same again. That was the end of her.

      I guarantee her's is not just gone. She's just getting the help she needs (whether that's meds, therapy, both, I don't know her approach to healing), and is in a much better place than she was. Often, people who struggle with eating disorders, even if they learn to manage them, never stop thinking about that struggle.

Having said this...i do have to say that a lot of people sometimes overthink themselves and sometimes think too much about little tings missing the really big problems...because realistically she invented her problems, she is a young and healt person, she didn't had real problems like physical enjury, money, death of a close relative, war, divorce, and some things that many people face every day and still get to be pretty fabulous and successful

    At this point, I'll be shocked if she ever loses the weight. One thing I've noticed about weight loss:
    1. There are people who talk and talk about it, but never lose the weight.
    2. And then there are other people who say nothing, but their weight drops easily.
    I lost 80lbs in one year on a whole foods vegan diet (zero exercise, no starving) after being obese my entire life. I have maintained a healthy weight on a whole foods vegan diet for FIVE years now. I started figure skating two years ago since I was thin enough to do it well. I just passed my Adult Gold MIF and I am currently working on Intermediate MIF and my axel and doubles.
    ANYONE can lose weight if they eat a whole foods vegan diet and don't restrict calories. I hate that eating disorder recovery is synonymous with "you must get fat to be cured" or "you must eat junk". So many people who have had EDs have gone vegan and recovered WITHOUT gaining vast amounts of weight.
    I really hope she'll lose the weight because I love her skating, but I think at this point she's too screwed up in the head by her own actions and the ED therapy to eat healthy and lose the weight.
    As someone who has gone thru years of massive calorie restriction and every other diet: keto, high-fat, low-fat, low-carb, etc, I KNOW what I'm talking about. I've screwed my metabolism plenty of times in the past with all the crap I tried. Veganism fixed my metabolism immediately. In addition, the scientific studies all show that vegans have the lowest BMIs compared to vegetarians and "health-conscious" omnivores, etc. This is why veganism has become so popular among athletes, actresses etc. IT WORKS. And it's a long-term solution that doesn't require you to starve yourself of calories.

    • @marisa768
      @marisa768 Před 5 lety +20

      Try telling a person with a disease like Crohn's to "just go on a vegan diet." It's not as simple as you're making it sound, for the majority of people. ED's are mental illnesses with physical consequences, and each person has to tackle their recovery in the way that works for THEM. Veganism isn't the end-all, be-all cure to weight struggles. And just as a final note on this - telling someone that has struggled with an eating disorder to lose weight is not only never kind, but it can trigger them to heading on a downward spiral with their ED behaviors again. Please just be kind when speaking about her (and everyone else for that matter), and don't tell other people what to do with themselves unless you're a certified professional that they are seeking help from. Plus - BMI is NOT an accurate measure of one's health!! Doesn't take into account muscle mass vs. adipose tissue, bone mass, etc.

    • @MissZuzaRd
      @MissZuzaRd Před 5 lety

      Marisa Rose i agree! Also any diet that eliminates whole food groups is not good for someone who suffers (or is recovering) from eating disorders

      @@MissZuzaRd @Marisa Rose I guess I have to state again how so many people with EDs have recovered via a vegan diet, or soon after recovering, went vegan. czcams.com/video/r5QTP4EOyTk/video.html
      "Veganism isn't the end-all, be-all cure to weight struggles." In fact, it is. You can't get fat on fruits/veggies/beans/potatoes/etc (short of cramming yourself to the point of pain every day and now you're actively trying to get fat instead of just eating according to natural hunger), and you don't have to restrict because it is so nutritious and filling. This is why vegans lose weight so easily and why they have the lowest BMIs of any dietary subgroup. They are NOT emaciated. They are right in the middle of normal BMI range. Only the vegetarians and meat-eaters are above this normal range, aka in the overweight range. Vegans also have the lowest rates of EVERY DISEASE (genetic or otherwise) because the diet is so nutritious. Much harder for genes or lifestyle to f**k you when you're eating that healthy.
      And seriously, every single diet-related disease anyone has every complained about to me has tons of people in the vegan community who either 100% cured their disease or vastly improved it. czcams.com/users/results?search_query=crohn%27s+disease+vegan
      The bottom line is: most people don't want to even try the whole foods vegan diet. They just want to make excuses so they can go on living the way they always have. Or they only try it for a couple months, decide they miss their meat too much, and start making excuses again.
      Even if I told you I was a certified professional, you would still disagree with me. No amount of certificates or scientific evidence is enough to convince someone who just wants to plug their ears and go on believing what they want to believe.
      Here's the scientific data on crohn's disease remission on vegan diets: czcams.com/video/P_T93ON2cBE/video.html

Yet my vocabulary is SO much better!!!! Putting that aside, I hope she recovers from her ED. Coming from the skating world and understanding the insane pressure put on ladies to be thin, I’m proud of Gracie for getting help and being open about her struggles. I did the same starvation game as Gracie when I was in the Ice Capades. I was so thin you could see my back ribs and my collar bones jutting out. But in their eyes I was fat. And they told me so week after week. I was afraid to eat as I would get called out on it. I developed a full on eating disorder and still struggle with body dysmorphia almost 40 years later. I too was shocked at Gracies appearance in the Grand Prix competition. Shocked but not surprised. When you starve and go back to eating your metabolism is so messed up your body holds onto every calorie. After an extreme all protein no carb diet, I lost 14 pounds in 7 days. First time I ate a carrot I gained two pounds. No joke. AGREE 150% about “like” being every other word out of that generation! I rarely watch the Kardashians. Listening to those girls talk in the same manner makes me cringe. Can’t take two minutes let alone an hour! (Not a fan anyway but they are the perfect example 😖)

      @@melaniesharp397 Melanie, why don't you tell us about the interviews you did on national television? She was probably nervous talking about something so personal for the national audience. People like you are the reason she would stop reaching out and sharing her story. Why not commend her for bravely sharing something that is so personal, something that is so stigmatized, rather than criticizing her for her language semantics? I would rather she keep sharing that than stop for fear of being berated by people like you.
