    How often do you eat at your local Chinese takeaway? Food Hygiene Inspectors Johnny and Faye arrive at a Chinese restaurant for a routine inspection and are shocked by what they discover.
    Knowing that their decisions may affect the people’s livelihoods, Johnny and Faye have to strike a balance between protecting the public and allowing the restaurant to correct their errors.
    But their job is made more difficult when nobody speaks English and the owners are creative with the truth... But Johnny and Faye left no stone unturned, for better or worse.
    Chow Mein anyone?

    • @nearestyoutube
      @nearestyoutube Před 4 lety +8

      I'll answer you. I'm a UK inspector.
      They would have visited for two reasons. First one is it could've been a routine inspection, so they just turn up and inspect them. Second reason could be that there's been a complaint or food poisoning/outbreak to investigate.
      I watched the video ages ago and back on here because of a notification so can't remember what happened in the video but to answer your question about the conclusion bit, that might've just been for the TV crew or the way they edited the inspection.
      Typically at the end of the inspection we will know what (in the UK) National Food Hygiene Rating Scheme score to issue them and provide a written report on site of the contraventions for them to put right.
      I'm the worst instances, it's too much to write on site so typically lots of evidential photographs are taken and we give them a brief summary before leaving them write an official letter detailing all the contraventions and work out their hygiene score separately due to all the issues. The score determination is based on a guidance document and isn't plucked out of thin air.
      I hope that answers your questions.

      Really? But like in every place or just in low cost restaurants?

    • @jackjohnson337
      @jackjohnson337 Před 4 lety +5

      Asami Cat The vast majority of restaurants are low budget, as only foreigners and rich Chinese eat at high-end restaurants, of which there are very few of in comparison, and only exist as a small proportion in the big cities. Typically, people get their food daily from wet markets, where food is handled without gloves and sanitised surfaces. It’s typical to see meat being strung up all day along the sides of roads or lying on the ground or dirty surfaces, without refrigeration. Cooked foods and vegetables are usually placed next to raw products and animals are freshly slaughtered out of their cages and boxes, with the blood just dripping all over the floors. The animals generally aren’t kept in good conditions either.. Simply do a search for wet markets in China and you’ll see what I mean. The coronavirus came from a wet market, where again sanitary practices are non-existent - there’s no food hygiene laws in China, or at least none that are taken seriously. As for personal hygiene, it’s rare to find soap and paper towels in washrooms. Few people use deodorant or perfume and visits to the dentist only happen if there’s a serious need, so no regular cleaning and check ups. Add in the amount of spitting down the street and public urination and defecation (granted mostly done by children that parents allow to happen) I guess it’s just a cultural thing, but it’s certainly not pleasant. Probably also because China, despite many advances (some of which are in many ways more advanced than the rest of the world), is still a developing country and the people just need more educating. Understand that this is a huge generalisation, so not all Chinese have the same standards of hygiene practice, but from my personal experience the vast majority of the country is like this.

    Not too worrying. I remember about 30 years ago in a Chinese near where I used to live public health officers found half an alsatian dog in the freezer. It was closed down.

    I work in a chinese restaurant in australia and this is appalling, at our place u have to know basic english for a job so when people come in like this they can ask all the questions needed, they are faking it bc they are scared they are going to get in trouble.

    god damn, the inspectors are kinda useless at their job, you'd think they'd have someone who could at least translate. They were enough violations to shut the resturant down for at least a day. Yikes. A pair of wet noodles really. They were kinda cringey.

    • @kynchan3332
      @kynchan3332 Před 4 lety

      There are not enough violations to close it down. Something really wrong has to happen before a closure otherwise it is warning after warning with inspections in between to make sure compliance is adhered to.
      There is a safer food folder that has sections to be filled in. If you don't have that book, regardless how compliant you are you can't get more than 3 stars - that is bureaucracy.

    Too right, we have poor hygiene in a lot of local takeaway places in Nottinghamshire uk. Any takeaway owner wishing to contradict me in the Ashfield area, get in touch, I will come and do a surprise visit. No booking allowed and a certificate will be issued that’s worth having because its from the customers not the government. It will also be rated on quality and authenticity.

    They were all playing the game “I don’t speak English” to play dumb and skirt responsibility. These inspectors should have closed the restaurant until the manager showed up (doubt he was in London). Hit them in the pocketbook and things will change. In the meantime they get to continue making people sick. Lovely.
