A bit of Trivia… that guy Mr Martin Nievera is one of the first people to discover Regine and paved her first break in TV, he was the one who made the suggestion to use the name Regine Velasquez as her stage name.
Martin is our concert king in the Philippines. Everyone loves him bc he not only sings well but is very friendly and charismatic which shows in his performance. Of course, Regine is a living legend in the Philippines. Thank you for the reactions! BTW, the Barbara Streisand song is “Papa, can you see Me”. I love her rendition.You’re right, Regine has been the canvas used by most younger Filipino artists. Before Regine, Filipino singers were also very famous worldwide but unfortunately blocked in the U.S. because of the music industry in the States, highly protective of their artists. ReRegine has been singing for more than 40 years now without falter.. she's the Philippines' norm in singing, that's why the so called "birit" queen and younger and new and budding singers emulate her.. i think Katrina also has been mentored by her earlier in her career.. in our country, the established professional singers are usually guiding the new ones.
