- One of the most common questions I get. What is the best way forward for you? Comes down to a personal decision. Do you want to save some money and get the certifications you need yourself and go your own route, or spend the time & money and attend a line school?

Just graduated high school a couple months ago got my class A cdl with all endorsements and took it in a manual. Got my cpr/aed/first aid. And osha 10. Just signed the books last week! I’m stoked hope to get a call soon. Thank you for your videos
Any updates brother?
Hey man, how's it going? Got any jobs?
Did you get any calls back?
Unfortunately a lot of utilities won’t hire without the schooling, but I personally think it is not necessary as when they show up they really don’t know a whole lot and we start them off like that. You will be taught as you go and will be just as good a lineman at the end of the day with or without the schooling.
thank your brother you genuinely helped me i’ve loved this career idea for a while now and you made it really easy to understand the best route
Love this video, I'm going to school next month for lineman and this video helped
Absolutely! Any further questions, email them at austin@bluecollaredu.com
Not a lineman, but if you're hurting for money to get a class-A CDL. Look for a 6 month program with an accredited school so you can get pell grants.
Hey brother I’m 37 years old I’m an IBEW JIW I’m about to test out to get my masters but I want to be a lineman. I’m in pretty good shape and always wanted to be a lineman so I’m going that route I start my CDL school and after getting it I’ll go and sign the books for ground man work. Do you think it will be hard to get into the apprenticeship since I’m already an Ibew member? Thanks for any advice and if you know anyone that has done this. Take care brother.
In NY i think its Class A or B CDL
What do you think about getting your CDL? Is that necessary right from the start and if so, what are the benefits? I’m heavily considering being a ground man for a while and then I would like to be a lineman. Appreciate your content and keep it up
Most locals pay groundman more if they have a cdl
I’m in jobcorps, did a basic trade (like electrical or facilities maintenance) and got accepted into overhead linemen “advanced training” got my cpr and flaggers here and I can also do an additional advanced training for cdl training
U can get a lot of certifications if u plan it right in jobcorps. Most trade classes here have mandatory certs like osha or fall arrest
Nice, I went to oneonta job corps and graduated from the overhead construction
@@yovannyromero6831 I’m bout to graduate from Gary jobcorps the overhead linemen trade in Texas, how long has it been since u graduated?
what's the website to job corps bro? I'm trying to figure all this stuff out
If I have experience as a union inside apprentice would it still be necessary to get experience as a groundman before applying to the outside apprenticeship?
and also do you think its a better idea to finish the inside apprenticeship and then get into lineman work or should I jump straight in?
I think it's always a good idea to get experience as a groundman before applying to the outside apprenticeship… But it doesn't hurt to apply for apprenticeship and do an interview and see where you rank. Also, i think it would be a better idea to finish the inside apprenticeship, become a journeyman & then get into the lineman work! That way you have that certification & experience under your belt!
Im working on my CDL right now and will do done with my CDL in a few weeks whats a good way to get started as a lineman in houston texas?
You don't ever "start" as a lineman. But having your class A CDL is the first best step to getting started in the trade. Get your First Aid/CPR and apply at SWLCAT, or local utilities in the Houston area for groundman or apprenticeships!
Do you have to start out as a ground man and work your way to a Lineman Apprenticeship? i’ve seen some videos about this and i’m just wondering how do you become a linemen?
Its best you start out as a groundman to get experience, but you can apply for apprenticeships get into an apprenticeship, complete it & then you'll become a journeyman!
@@BlueCollarEDUhow much should you be making starting out as a groundman?
I’m active duty and plan to get out. I know of helmets to Hardhats but I am more interested in an electrical lineman apprenticeship. Where would I start?
No in the military but look into veep. They have a 4 month lineman program that puts you into a apprenticeship at 2 different JATCS
So you don’t need a cdl to get groundmen? I’m a Marine Vet, 3yr experienced Tower Tophand with just a chauffeurs.
No but you should definitely get a cdl

You need lineman school or at least you need to train on how to climb cleanly.
