@@bornandraised66so true, line school was cake work compared to the real world. Physically, and mentally. The instructors are your buddies…. Out here you can’t say much back to the guys running the show
I went to lineman school at 29 after being a mechanic and dabbling in electrical for 10 years. Ended up up graduating with the highest test scores in the school. I also took the JATC and scored a 6. I feel like I'm in the best shape of my life and have no longer have any desire to go out and party or make poor decisions like the younger guys do. I attribute all that to my life experiences. Most of all I know I'm still nothing compared to the guys that have been in the trade. I just want to keep my eyes and ears open and grind. I'll dig a hole run a hand line and run around while eating my lunch standing up all with a smile on my face. 😂
I'm 36, just got accepted to 1393 albat. I have topped out for union pacific , tree side and worked as a JW. I'm taking a pay cut as a step 1 apprentice. 6 hours away for me to
I’ve been working manufacturing for years now. Currently 26 about to turn 27. I’m starting to apply to trade apprenticeships because I don’t feel satisfied working manufacturing for the rest of my life. Even if I take a few dollars pay cut to start off.
I did the same thing I did very well in Warehouse and manufacturing. But it is hopelessly dead end and unsatisfying. I wish I would have gotten into the trades when I was young.
There were so many applicants that applied for the Lineman program and I was one of the few who got selected for an interview for the program. And it went well today. They only take 12 students a year for it. The kids that walked out when I was waiting to be interviewed looked like babies man. I was like wth.. lol I’ve been in the marines and was a machine operator and trained kids for 7 years. I’m 31 yrs old, strong as an ox and weigh 140 lbs and in super good shape. I love outdoors and working in shttie conditions. My instructor asked me today do you think you are the oldest guy who came into this program? I said no. He said I had a 39 year old come in today. And I’m like im different dude lol 31 years old is perfect.. not old not too young.
32. Years old. I am a HVAC tech who went to business school when I was younger. Did the whole corporate thing. Want a CHANGE and a CHANCE. I’m looking into IBEW 42 but am willing to move anywhere. Starting CDL school in a few months. Is there an aptitude test for the NEAT 1969 program. What should I into for my next steps? Great videos. Very informative.
bro i wanna do it so bad im 32 and its so hard! I applied tested and interviewed got my class a cdl. NO WHERE IS CALLING! No boot camps running. ILL MOVE ANYWHERE AND HAVE 7 Years of union labor experience, any advice?!
Probably nonexistent unless you get a union journeyman position. My crew was on their own for insurance and was dependent on the boss' charity to survive if you get seriously injured.
My husband got into the trade when he was 30. He just turned 59 and can retire at age 62. It has been a great career for him and our family.
Im at NLC the oldest student here is 43 he’s killing it
Edison or Tesla
Don't forget, Nlc doesn't put you too work like a grunt will be worked once he gets out of "line school". It ain't for the faint of heart

Fairly unrelated question to this particular topic but what is the pto like for an apprenticeship and what is the healthcare like?
