Tensions flare in the near future aboard the International Space Station as a worldwide conflict breaks out on Earth. Reeling from this, the astronauts receive orders from the ground: take control of the station by any means necessary. Director Gabriela Cowperthwaite, working with Nick Shafir’s Blacklist script, brings together a stellar cast that includes Academy Award winner Ariana DeBose, Chris Messina, Pilou Asbaek, John Gallagher Jr., Costa Ronin, and Masha Mashkova, in a high-stakes thriller set entirely in the confines of the I.S.S. as astronauts are called to duty in fateful and terrifying ways.

The smart thing to do is to ignore the orders from earth and find a way to work together.😮
True it’s the smart thing to do but, you don’t know if the other group of people are on the exact same page, you don’t know if they truly are on board with ignoring direct orders, plus who’s saying that the wining country just sends a shuttle towards the rouge astronauts, it’s basically among us with rtx on
That is if you're smart. And if people down below were dumb enough to start a war on our own big space staion - the Earth - why the ones onboard the ISS would be smarter?
Exactly, taking orders from the same people who nuked themselves
Especially considering that such order could not be verified.
They may be accused of treason and imprisoned if they do not follow the instructions
Why would astronauts even follow orders at that point, you think the US/Russia is going to what send a shuttle up in the middle of an active war to transport one of their crew down for a court martial?
Have u ever heard of nationalism or national identity or loyalty or patriotism? Or any of the stuff that usually emerges in wartime. I mean most of the time a war breaks out it causes problems for people from those nations across whatever part of the world they’re in becuz idk thats how humans work? The entire Cold War depended on both Americans Russians being so fervently in support of their countries and ideologies. What a fucking weird nitpick to have? This isn’t about soldiers coming up there, its paranoia and mistrust of the other person. Does someone have to explain basic psychology to you? Or very low/level suspension of disbelief?
True it would be the smart thing to do but, you don’t know if the other group of people are on the exact same page, you don’t know if they truly are on board with ignoring direct orders, plus who’s saying that the country who wins the war just sends a shuttle towards the rouge astronauts, it’s basically among us with rtx on
@@GuineaPigEveryday that would make sense if this was set during the cold war, or an alternate timeline where the cold war never settled down, or information control had become so pervasive it was impossible to see or hear about anything from the other side. The movie says it's set in our near future so the premise doesn't make sense. I mean even in the current ukraine russia conflict russian support of the war is spotty at best. Maybe if all these astronauts were career soldiers or something, but then why are you sending career soldiers up to a research space station?
Don't try to find meaning in a film made for a political agenda.
It would be pointless for each side to try to gain total control over the station. The only thing to do would be for each team to cooperate to keep everyone aboard alive as long as possible.
My guess is that there's some secret weapon onboard that can help win the war

i honestly dont think this is how it would go in the events of an actual situation, astronauts are an extremely different breed. theyre like a tight knit family up there, if the world was burning around below then why would they risk their personal survival for a government that isnt even keeping them alive currently?
im excited for this film because the thought of getting more and more people out into space is exciting , but i doubt they'd turn on each other like shown here.

What an interesting premise. I would hope that in a situation like that the astronauts would recognize the futility of fighting and work together.
but then you would not have a movie to go to..who would want to watch a bunch of astronauts singing kumbaya
Whats sad is we know nothing will happen to the main character, because....well, you know why....so it takes all of the danger away
Just saw the movie and it wasn't bad. I like the premise and reasons each country wants control of the ISS (watch the movie to understand, instead of just blindly assuming). My only gripe was it wasn't as high intensity as I was expecting. I still enjoyed it, but it's hard to say if I recommend it. Weird, I know. If you like movies that take place in space, you'll enjoy it. If you're claustrophobic, you'll either feel uneasy or just not want to see it. I'm not, so I liked the tightness felt during the scenes

Don’t confuse Hollywood with reality.
Ever hear of a panic? People are known to *trample* people in a panic we run. Live people literally run over…by people. Death is by FEAR of a situation.
Kill or be killed.

“We gotta stick together!”
“We are all on the ISS! Team!”

What would be the purpose of taking control of the I.S.S. after nuclear war exactly?
I'm not even asking like philosophically or being "war is stupid", I mean what practical reason would you even need to send orders to the crew to take it?
Don't try to find meaning in a film made for a political agenda.
@@Galy4a What, pray tell, would that agenda be?
If you're talking about making the Russians look bad, that's not an agenda. That's just something someone living in reality would say... Talking about Putin and his henchmen of course, not the average citizen.
Iss is a big spy satellite with observers onboard, during ww3 satellites are shot down - iss is not.
This is the most obvious reason, do not be stupid😂
I.S.S has one of the most powerful telescopes ever created so it probably would be great for tactical purposes like scouting armies/locating nuclear launching points or other important points of interests behind enemy lines.
@@dominiqueodom3099😂😂😂
Just a moment.....in Earth's orbit there are a huge number of satellites specially created for this purpose, which have been working for this purpose for decades
Reminds me of the conflict between the American and Soviet personnel in "2010," except Dave Bowman isn't around to fix everything.
This is rediculous cause these people have bonded, have become friends, have shared in something so miraculous.... It's heartbreaking really. All fighting and all war is, but to put a small group of people in space together and tell them to go to war, just heartbreaking. This worse part is the paranoia of not knowing what the other side is gonna do could cause you to to attack first to save yourself. It would be best if they could all make it very very clear that they are safe so that no one loses it to paranoia.
Yes this would not happen under most circumstances - probably reject their governments commands and work together; what is the point of following orders from a dying earth? (not that I know the full plot of course) We can surmise that perhaps they do end up rebelling against this as it would be pointless to fight and kill to preserve the station which probably can't operate, at least for very long, without earth-based help.
Yeah. It's why they made a movie. Anything that evokes emotions
Well, I'd follow the orders. Because if the Russians aren't acting right and gonna start causing Troubles up in Space, then Americans are gonna give it to Them really hard.

It reminds me of the old Farside comic where aliens were enjoying watching the “fireworks show” on Earth. 😂
Somehow this whole plot idea leaves me flat. In such a situation nothing the ISS astronauts did would affect the outcome on the ground. At that point they might as well fight over who controls Disneyland. Maybe I'm just too old to appreciate the fantasy.

I think if the plot was the space station was a super weapon for a event of a war or it’s a survival type of movie where they have to survive on the space station till they can get back to earth while they’re witnessing the destruction of earth from nuclear war then I probably would’ve been into the concept more but my issue is these are just normal astronauts going up in Space in real life these astronauts would’ve probably ignored the orders and just survive for however long they have left
You're not too old, just too intelligent.
Teamwork at that point. All of them should be working together to survive
The white guys are too busy groveling to the super intelligent Black lesbian
I think a better story line would be what would a Crew of a large cargo ship do out on the ocean with nowhere safe to go.
Replace that cargo ship with a jumbo jet in flight and you have the plot of David Graham's novel _Down to a Sunless Sea._
That sounds cool but wouldn't they get ☢️ from like, the atmosphere pretty quickly?
@@AliZaybakII That _was_ actually a concern as they flew from their temporary refuge at Lajes in the Azores to what they hoped would be a new home at McMurdo Station in Antarctica.
There was a twilight zone episode with a similar premise. A nuclear war breaks out at the exact moment a spaceship is launched and then... The story goes completely in a different direction, as a typical Twilight zone episode would...😂😂
They can get picked up much easier on a ship though. Especially if they were able to receive communication
I wanna see this film, might even do suprisingly well . Even curious to see the behind the scenes features just to hear the writer/s director's explanation of the events of the story. But I don't think at least at first the astronauts representing any of those country's would try to take the station if they knew they're would most likely not be a planet to return to. I think their main concern would be survival or how accepting their fates and trying to cope with what little of time they have to live due to the circumstances. Because unless the space stations are now equipped with some evacuation ship/vehicle and they can navigate it towards Antartica, their ain't much hope.
I believe the reason for the astronauts to really turn on eachother like that, isn't really based off following government orders, but more so paranoia. They would be so paranoid that the other country got the same orders that they just want to survive. So they are gonna do what they can to survive
there is an "evacuation vehicle" that they could use, the soyuz capsule can re-enter and land safely in a lot of places
(it's actually shown detached and moving away from the ISS at 1:56)
it also doesnt look like the entire world has ended so i assume they only have to detach the soyuz and re-enter on the other side of the earth
Did no one tell the special effects team that a nuclear esplosion does NOT look like a perpetual orange lighting over an area?
It might look like a series of unusually high smoke clouds (the "mushrooms" as seen from above) which will slowly become just regular low smoke from burning cities. Not like fluorescent orange soda.
LOL. I thought the exact same thing. But, it's Hollywood so a hearty suspension of disbelief is required for the Muggles.
I think it's more just that everything is on fire
Maybe it’s not a nuclear explosion
I'd assume it be the wildfires that would start up causing that effect
Uh, fires? Subsequent explosions?

I read the script for this a few years ago as it was on The Black List. It was deff a fun read and with tensions the way they are right now it makes your skin crawl at times. Can't' wait to see it.
The use of music in this trailer is beautifully haunting - the incongruity of such a classic catchy song against the backdrop of the violence and paranoia.
Even though the song itself "Wind of Change" is about the opening up of the Soviet Union during perestroika and the possibilities of a peace and an end to the cold war, so it's totally appropriate from a lyrical perspective.
That song! For some reason it transports me to the 80s, yeah! And its space mania!
What's interesting about the song - which I hate with a passion, and always have - is that when it was released, nobody could have imagined that that war between Russia and the USA was possible. Now - it's almost impossible to believe that it's avoidable. And that is why the song is so perfect - the naivety of thinking that we've solved the problem of war.
Russian is here. We are also from our shore, looking with curiosity, on fiction US astronauts - do they represent your nation relationship 😅 Friendly or hostile, equal or arrogant...

So war breaks out, and their brilliant, scientific minds just stop working on a high level all-together and just become mindless ants blindly following orders like a grunt soldier???
God I can't WAIT for CinemaSins to get a hold of this one!!!
You act like scientists are superhuman, as if they were Vulcans, driven purely by logic or reason. The truth is, outside of their area of expertise, they are just as governed by emotions as your average person. Even within their respective disciplines, they can often be sectarian and dogmatic. They are just as susceptible to tribalism, and the conflict that grows from it as anyone else. Remember, many of the scientists in Nazi Germany were diehard believers in bogus ideas about racial hygiene. Isaac Newton believed in alchemy and espoused ideas of the occult. James Watson, the famous scientist who, along with Francis Crick discovered DNA, was a racist and sexist. As recently as the 1950s, doctors were endorsing cigarette smoking. In even more recent times, many scientists were on opposite sides of the pandemic debate, and disagreed vehemently on the origins of the virus, masking, social distancing and vaccination, and sought to get each other cancelled for holding differing opinions. Scientists are hardly immune to the worst inclinations of humanity.
cinemasins has ruined you. Finding every little bad thing you can about a M O V I E. It's fictional. It's a story. Why do you all have to analyze and judge it so hard when it's for the journey?
Haha, or Pitch Meeting.
"Then they get information from ground control to take over the ISS"
"Fighting in a space station in stead of trying to survive while the world below is ending is TIGHT!"
Well maybe movies should be better they all suck now one after the other

I am heartened to see that I am not the only person who has questions about the premise of this film. Nothing on what is left of god's once-green Earth would require anybody try to take control of the I.S.S., and there is nothing they could possibly do with it even if they did.

It's a modern remake of a short move from years ago (I can't recall the name, I think it was a fan made film on DUST) where Astronauts witness a Nuclear War on earth and have to decide what to do next.
Reminds me of the 100 TV show.😮 Can't wait to watch it
While a lot could be seen wrong with this (I'm a space fan), the point seems to be missed by many critics.
Most people seem to be missing the point: BOTH sides were presumed to be given the same orders. It's basically a Prisoner's Gamble situation. If you are led to believe the OTHER side is actively trying to get you, you will try and get them first in hopes of saving your hide. The shock and awe of a nuclear exchange will break psychology down far
Prisoner's Dilemma, you mean. And the dominant strategy equilibrium is easily overcome in a small group setting where everyone knows that fighting over the ISS is likely to kill everyone on board through malfunction of the station.
@@FireMarshallStev This is indeed a good rebuttal. Thanks for the correction. Kept forgetting the name
You're right. The depiction of nuclear war in the film represents a scenario in game theory where the authorities have limited information or accuracy. It explores how each party strategizes to maximize their own benefit under these constraints.
It's a fascinating concept. I'm eager to see if the movie effectively captures this complexity 😂.
Saw this trailer yesterday before Godzilla Minus One and was hyped for it looked the trailer up when I got home to send to my brothers but couldn’t find it but it’s now it’s released yay ! Also that trailer for the movie “Monster” looked really good/interesting !
The most appropriate course of action for those crews is to organize a Nash Equilibrium game under a critical situation. This would involve the creation of a flat decision making structure. Brusselas - Stara Zagora hypothesis that is staged in the series Into the Night shows that any hyerarchical structure is doimed to fail
Thankfully Wikipedia has already had the entire plot posted. Saved me the time and money.
Reading about a train wreck is not the same as being on the train.
@@2148aa so did you see it in theaters?
@Tigerman1138 yes, every 6 screen theater has a copy in Iowa. Showing I went to had 4 people.
@@2148aa four more than I expected.
It's a good premise in the sense that an isolated team questioning if they can trust each other or not is great potential for character drama. It being set on the real ISS is a stretch though considering who and how astronauts operate. If it was a sci-fi film set on some rando space station then it could be more believable. Something like that Passengers film but if the story had been structured better for mystery and drama instead of romance. Adding in a "realistic" element and setting breaks the immersion for me but I'll see it to truly pass judgement.
Looks really good. Glad this trailer crossed my feed.
PHENOMENAL concept, but the idea that the astronauts and cosmonauts would fight as opposed to work together kinda ruins it for me
If I was way up there in the ISS and the people below get into a war where I don't know any of the details, the last thing I would do is take orders from schmucks who scorched the earth. For all I know, I and the folks on the station could be one of the few people remaining. No point waging wars against one another.
But I guess I'll watch the movie to find out exactly what the plot is.
It’s a trip, but why are so many comments just going in on the fact that, “this would never happen! It’s gonna be a bad movie now.” Wtf. Dude this seems like a good story. And sketchy af. I’m pretty excited for this tbh.
No it’s not what the trailer shows, horrible terrible no good movie
Dont thinks it’s the right time for a movie like this.
This why we should be making peace
When is it ever the "right" time for anything
I see a lot of comments on here about how the astronauts wouldn't obey their orders from earth, or those orders wouldn't occur in the first place, blah, blah, blah. Whatever happened to suspension of disbelief? It's a frickin movie, people! Just enjoy it!
This movie shows that choose wisely who you send up to the ISS.
More predictive programming 🤤
I’m betting money the twist is that it’s aliens turning us against each other.
we don't need aliens for that.
Reptiloids
No its not, its no war either. They all died in a meteor strike and the girl dreamed everything while dying, its similar to Turkish movie baskin
@@user-ue5fn5fh9m, Yes, no need for aliens. To do this, we have reptiloids from the Bohemian Grove 😂👌
@@KylooReen wow wish I could have gone in surprised.
I saw yesterday the ISS orbiting above my town in north Carolina.
I ve got the ISS app
what's the song name playing?
Can’t wait for the Pitch Meeting that’ll save me those two hours of having to watch this
“So a nuclear war breaks out on Earth.”
“Oooh scary!”
“Then the Russian & US government tell their astronauts to take the station at any cost.”
“Why would taking control of the space station during a nuclear war help?”
“Because it’s the plot.”
“But why?”
“I don’t know.”
“What…what good is a space station during a war?”
“Maybe it has spying ability or something?”
“It’s a scientific research station, not a spy satellite.”
“Maybe it can be more.”
“But it can’t.”
“But it’s war time.”
“Okay so tell me what happens next…”
What an insult to all the scientists working on the ISS for the benefit of humanity.
Indeed!
Its just a movie man.
@@colin1235421 in times where people can't differentiate between reality and fiction it is not "just a movie" anymore. People watch Houe of Cards and think that's how the US presidency really works. They watch Napoleon and think it's a history book. They'll watch this movie and think that's how astronauts are and like the OP said, it's an insult to the work all those people did and are doing on the ISS
@@colin1235421Right. And movie fans deserve a great one now and then. This isn’t it.
The fact our species survived by knowing when to kill and when to run is an interesting thought. More interesting is that we WIPED OUT ENTIRE species. Good things weapons and grief and anger don’t exist anymore. It is even better than put in a kill or be killed moment we always work together--oh that is Hollywood.
People get trampled to death in a panic.
Kill or be killed? Knives come out!
All the astronauts pledging love and one world and “We are SCIENTISTS” means dick. Don’t confuse Hollywood with reality.
We are alive since we killed…a LOT…in the past.
Yeah well, little detail. The ISS is 100% dependent on the Russian segments. The core of the ISS are two soviet designed modules that were intended for MIR 2. They have all the key functions of the Station. Navigation, environmental control, water recycling, it's own power generation, attitude and altitude correction.
Russians can just close the hatches and unlock their core segment. It will keep functioning and orbiting, the rest of the ISS would be uncontrolled and falling down.
What is the name of the audiobook or podcast based on this movie called.? That would be cool to listen to. thanks!
I wrote this as a short story a few years ago. Be interesting to see if it ends the same way as in the anthology (I doubt it) Can't wait.
Cool movie! A must see & I would def go watch again. 🚀
The infamous sky vacuum!!
The movie was great! There's a reason they were asked to take over the station. Watch it!
Looks like an awesome movie. Can't wait!
Посмотрите Вызов, российский фильм )
First, the ending scene of Oppenheimer, then the fallout TV series, now this film? And to mention the current tensions in the middle east and Ukraine. It’s the Cold War all over again… The Elites are itching for this to happen
Israel have been bumming Palestine for 75 years m8
Looks amazing
This looks really interesting. I would just hope they would both talk to each other be open , and work together just b/c there’s War down there don’t mean it has to be up here.
Pretty sure this was a episode on the twilight zone remake a few years ago. Still looks great!
The Americans and Russians will work together to survive. They wouldn’t be attacking each other. This is not reality.
As much as the flames Hollywood fan I love the comments from both side how if this situation happened they would work together insuring all of their survival. Good to know the media has not affected you all into rooting for one side over the other. If they understood the song wind of change and whatnot ment they would know it's saying never again to fight like we have give change a try.
They sure have been making a lot of movies about way breaking out lately
Looks like a good movie, but there is no reason to take over a space station by either when the residents on the space station have nothing to do with the war below.
Даже направление полета МКС неправильно изобразили. Физиков явно не хватает.
Корабль "Союз" - вообще тухлая пародия какая-то..))
Growing up in the Space City, I highly doubt they would be acting like this, Hollywood has to mess up something that is a very real possibility. I was just thinking about this and 2 days later here is this trailer. I was literally wondering what would they do in this scenario. I think it would be an excellent film to watch if the acting was more realistic. Someone watch it and let me know. 😆
Yeah I personally think the astronauts would just get together and figure out how long they could last up there. No one would give a shit what Moscow or Washington was telling them at that point. But interesting idea I guess 🙂
