    Question i got a 2015 Q50 its got 40,000 miles its making a horrible loud roaring noise when you first start it if its idling not loud when I put it in drive it makes a clucking roaring noise My engine is not overheating it's running normal my gas is normal it hasn't changed gets worst when I accelerate and if I get on interstate And accelerate when I let go I hear a clunk but its a rough drive Took it to infinit told me it was a small leak from the exhaust pipe So I took it to Midas and they did a full exhaust test on it and said there was no leaks they said it could be an internal problem But had my engine and my transmission checked out at infinity and they told me there was no issues with them so I'm wondering what this can be

    Thanks for the video. Obviously proceed at your own risk. As mentioned by others using a yard stick/wood stick is much safer for the average DIYer. BTW nice lift and helper. I didn't turn off the stabilizer and car on front jacks would not go above 7 MPH. Car sounds like airplane above 40 MPH worse with slight right turns. Suspect driver side wheel bearing. Both front tires have zero play. Tires rotated with no change.

    I had to replace both front wheel bearings and recently bought new tires couldn’t find the right size but was told it wouldn’t affect anything if I bought a bigger size, now when I drive down the road over 40 mph it gets very loud! Not sure what’s going on.

  • @J05hFontenot
    @J05hFontenot Před rokem +13

    You can just grab the tire at the top and bottom and give it a shake, alternating top in bottom out, top out bottom in. If it moves or it doesn't feel tight, it's going to be play in the bearing. You don't need to do all that lifting it up and putting it in drive. Just jack up one wheel at a time.

    •  Před rokem +2

      Be careful he it's nuts enough to do it while the wheel are running 50 m/hr

      That only works if the bearing is worn to the extent of becoming loose, which is a safety issue. Bearings make noise well before that point. Some people have the radio up too loud so they never hear it, others notice and need it diagnosed 😂

    • @J05hFontenot
      @J05hFontenot Před rokem +2

      @@Pete_Tech_ they don't always make noise when they aren't loose. I haven't heard a wheel bearing make noise before becoming loose enough to tell with a shakedown. Usually if it's making noise it's because the bearing is worn, and if it's worn, it's usually better the seals have allowed debris or moisture into the race resulting in the play that you feel when you shake it down. I can't think of any other reason that a bearing would make noise. If it's sealed, it's properly lubricated 🤷

  • @static_Tricolor_camry
    @static_Tricolor_camry Před 7 měsíci

    I knew it was my Front wheel bearings, both Front wheels are scraping when I turn Left and Right and the Left side is louder it's making a loud pop when I bring the wheels back straight. I'm replacing both inner tie rods because there's a lot of play in the steering wheel it also feels loose and I'm replacing both Front wheel bearings at the same time. I also need to to an alignment on my Front wheels, because the steering wheel is facing towards the Right when I'm driving. But since my Camry is really low, every shop I called refused to do an alignment on my car so I'm gonna do it myself when I put my Aftermarket wheels back on after Winter.

    The average person should NOT reach over the tire while the tire is spinning. Severe injury may result.

    • @54egg

    • @Pete_Tech_
      @Pete_Tech_  Před 10 měsíci +1

      Yes automotive sethoscopes are by far the best practice, or a very long dense rod like a 24” 3/8 extension. Working around vehicles at all required safety protocols, grabbing the coil spring and avoiding contact with the tire really isn’t an impossible task.

    • @cosmicallyderived
      @cosmicallyderived Před 4 měsíci +2

      Not impossible but not worth the risk of a disabling injury. Stick a contact microphone on the thing.

  • @docohm50
    @docohm50 Před 9 měsíci +7

    Don't do this. You can use a wooden yardstick to stick back and touch the coil and it will pickup the vibration. Ever see a alligator grab a man's arm and roll? One slip and you arm touches that tire going 50 mph and your toast. You can detect a bearing by jacking the car up and shaking the wheel grasping it at the E, W and then N,S grip points. I definitely would not reach in to touch the coil

    • @Pete_Tech_
      @Pete_Tech_  Před 9 měsíci +1

      Tires don’t reach out and bite, but DIYers not paying attention do slip. Happened to me several years back, had road rash on my arm. No it did not send me flying across the shop…slow down with the drama 😂

    I have an 02' Blazer ZR2. Just changed my front bearing hubs because i have a loud "low power steering" type sound that gets louder the faster i go & only makes this sound when rolling. Tires are good & quiet. I think it might be my rear diff bearing. Sounds like the front but the noise drones & sounds weird like sometimes its from the front & sometimes from the rear.

    • @Pete_Tech_

      Differential bearings will typically make noise when coasting. (No load applied). Use a lift or Jack stands and drive in the air to find out. And automotive sethoscope is very cheap.

  • @Dawg.....
    @Dawg..... Před rokem +4

    Ya, thinking it's a bearing. Loud noise from front end, louder as you accelerate.
    Recognize it somewhat from a bearing going in my other car on the highway. Just changed brakes, rotors..think the guy would've noticed it.

  • @calebwhite1454
    @calebwhite1454 Před 26 dny +1

    How about a roaring that is mostly rhythmic, but sometimes constant for a few seconds, or sometimes stops for a few seconds, but usually cyclic, no steering input makes a difference, acceleration vs deceleration doest matter, its only noticable at speeds of 75mph to 82mph, didnt dare go faster (1995 Chevy Suburban with 190hp and a worn-ish trans and so its hard enough to go that speed
    Ball joints on the lower control arm look okay except for leaking most of the grease. But dont seem to have really any play. New front shocks but still rough over small bumps and cracks. No clunks or anything
    It is 4x4 with leaky cv boots..

    Ok, heres a question for you from South Africa. I have a Dihatsu Terios 2012, 1.5 4x4 model that has done 200 000 kilometres both on dust and tar roads. It has been regularly serviced and recently had the front propshaft, front shocks and all brakes replaced, front and back. My question is this: if the car stands overnight and I start it in the morning, I then reverse it out of the carport swinging the rear to the left, I then put it into first gear and drive turning right to get out of my driveway and get this horrible grinding noise across both front wheels and which also makes the noise just under the steering wheel and literally feels like it is coming up the steering column. this lasts for literally a few seconds (60 at most), if driving extremely slowly it continues for longer ggggkkk, gggkkk, almost like dry metal on metal noise and then doesnt come back no matter how long the car moves or stands during the day. It only occurs first thing in the morning when the car has stood for around 12 to 13 hours.
    The steering wheel turns without any problems. I have had new tyres fitted all round as well.
    Nobody that I have taken the car to can tell me what is wrong, most of the time they dont believe me because a: I am an elderly woman and b: they cant hear anything, I have driven the car to them so of course the noise has stopped. I have had the car lifted off the ground and driven and no noise, put it back down and the noise will sometimes come back for a second or two. I have been told that the wheel bearings are fine, but irrespective, I will be changing them.
    My thinking, and I know squat diddly about cars is that there is some sort of lubricant/oil/grease problem that once heated up lubricates whatever is causing this grating/grinding noise.
    Any suggestions, help, advice as to what could be the cause of this elusive noise (and I am not going senile) would be greatly appreciated.

    • @Pete_Tech_
      @Pete_Tech_  Před 6 měsíci

      Sounds crazy but I would try new brake pads and rotors on both front and rear first. Sounds like the brake rotor surface could be rusting or severely pitted attracting debris and cause noise until the pads rub it off enough to not hear it. Unfortunately I can’t diagnose it over the internet. Bearings will make noise constantly if they have failed.
