A great dramatic soprano voice,a great singer,a great artist.
Thank you so much for posting this. I loved reading Varnay’s autobiography, but hearing her speak of this phase of her career amplified with collected recordings from the period was an absolutely marvellous experience.
Such a wonderful document of an incredible talent. Thank you for postings!
Thank you for this video!!!!!!!!!!!
Wonderful documentary. Also see her wonderful autobiography. The intelligent and humor and integrity of the person shines forth.
A great Artist, a warm human being, an intelligent Lady of the Opera
What an emotive artist, with an incredible instrument! I enjoyed all four episodes and was glad to see her finally as she was during the interview, which took place only a few years before her passing. I like her Italian opera singing as well. Ms. Varnay is very articulate and I was surprised that she had no accent at all. Would have like to hear more about her post-Met career as she moved into more Mezzo roles and character roles later on. Recommendable!
Though Varnay's earliest childhood took place in Europe, the lion's share of her growing-up years took place in New York and New Jersey. I think this accounts for the lack of a foreign accent in her English.
Nice to find this
