  • The EOS RP has become a very popular camera since its launch 2 years ago, but it's missing a few features that could make the next version a huge hit. In this video, I will outline a few of the features I would like to see Canon add to the next RP (or whatever model they release the fill that space in the lineup).

    The EOS R is a great little camera, but let me know what you want to see in the next version :)

    I have an rp, and as an enthusiast rediscovering joy of photography after a many years break, it is great for reintegration to the world, and a good introduction into full frame mirrorless.
    I really enjoy the rp for my current personal needs.
    I would like to see a higher frame rate for shooting stills in the next version.
    As well as knocking out the 4K crop and lack of dual pixel af in 4K.
    And creating a new, upgraded sensor.
    Other than that, for my use case, it is a great little camera at this point. Especially paired with a rf 24-105 f4, and a rf 70-200 f4.
    Good enthusiast combo.
    Don’t really need the 2.8 costs at this time.
    Canon is doing a good job at starting to roll out consumer/prosumer level lenses into the rf ecosystem.
    Now to work that level of camera in the next iterations of the system.

    I currently own the RP and mostly do automotive and portrait stills work. I haven’t been able to delve into any of the RF Mount lenses yet, but I really personally love that I can use EF and EF-S lenses from when I had an 80D without getting any vignetting and just upscale the res in Photoshop if it’s needed. Also, being able to use the back of the touchscreen like a joystick when using the EVF is a godsend.

      Yes, the screen AF points are nice. I think they first added that feature to the M50. Thanks for watching!

      Make sure to update the firmware to get all the latest video features on the R5. They have added quite a lot of stuff to it :)

    Dude... just bought the headshot mini session course!!! Cant wait to watch that.... Quick question, I have the canon M50, (I bought it for real estate photography only) I was still shooting with my nikon D4s for portraits, but i tried the M50 on a session and haven't stopped using it.... I use the sigma 56mm 1.4. Do you think getting the RP would be a wise upgrade from the M50? I was going to upgrade to the M6 mk II ( i understand the M50 and the M6 are crop sensors)... I just feel like the M50 isnt very professional looking, but it sure does give me professional results... Would you upgrade to the RP or just stick with the M50 mk II

    • @GaryHughesOfficial
      @GaryHughesOfficial  Před 2 lety +2

      You could easily shoot headshots on the M50, it produces beautiful images. The RP is a very similar camera but the eye AF IS MUCH BETTER and you get the full frame sensor. My advice is stuck with what you have and get some money rolling in, there’s always a better camera.

    Hello and thank you for this video. I really like my Canon RP, but for the next version I would like one : "Canon RP Mark II with: the viewfinder and the R sensor as well as the latest Dic XXX + 1/8000 sec. And IS processor if possible ! "And all in the same compact size and with the same weight, or just a little heavier! That's all ! We have the right to dream, right ?!
    Best regards,
    Philgood

      Who knows!? I would be happy with improved AF, battery life, I cropped 4K and c-log. IS would be a treat, though. Expect a $1200 price tag for the body with the improvements, though.

  • @johnherzel718
    @johnherzel718 Před 3 lety +1

    I have the RP. It's biggest flaws are battery life, AF (it's good for photos, but why aren't they upgrading it to DPAF 2), and 4K. Its useless without DPAF The 4k is also very soft if you can focus. The 1080 looks better, that's unforgivable. 24 &30 fps in a better looking 4k would be enough. I don't expect c- log at this price, but maybe enable it for an upcharge ( they did this before with 5D MK2 or 3) or include a very flat profile that can be worked on.
    Other than that I am very happy with it. It's a very good compromise to get a full frame image to work with. Oh and did I mention that it's small and light!

    • @GaryHughesOfficial
      @GaryHughesOfficial  Před 3 lety

      Totally agree with you, I would love to get a really good, usable 4k and better battery life. Thanks for watching.

  • @iancurrie8844
    @iancurrie8844 Před 2 lety

    I’m not concerned with the sensor at all. It’s fine.
    I would like a good joystick to be able to move the focus point around easily with the LCD screen flipped in.
    I would also like all the good autofocus improvements which made it even into the R10.
    Give me those two things and I’m happy.

    • @iancurrie8844

    I'm looking to move up from APS-C (Sony A6000) to a mirrorless full frame and Canon appeals because of the better ease of use. After doing some research on the Canon RP, I'd like to see better dynamic range, better battery life and better video on the rumored replacement. It would be great to also get IBIS but with IS lenses, I guess I can live without.
    As a consumer marketing guy, I agree with your comment about the opportunity to reach the large enthusiast market which wants to move up in image quality. Video is now widely used by most consumers so the entry level mirrorless FF camera needs better video than the 3 year old RP. Canon's opportunity is to expand the market, sell more high margin lenses which ties people to the brand long term and have more people to upgrade to better photo and video bodies.

    I do agree that DPAF is more important than uncropped 4K. It would still be nice to have 4K uncropped as well.

    Do you think is good to whait for new version of the RP model ? Are they going to release it any time soon ?

    • @GaryHughesOfficial
      @GaryHughesOfficial  Před 3 lety +1

      If you are trying to decide between buying an RP or waiting for another version, I think we are maybe 6 months to a year away from a replacement getting in your hands. Take that into consideration as I believe their main priority is launching the R3 and then lining up the APS-C cameras for the RF mount. Hope that helps :)

    Most people are getting 350+ and sometimes even 400 photos off a fully charged battery. I think you are simply reading off Canon's spec list in regards to battery life.

    • @GaryHughesOfficial
      @GaryHughesOfficial  Před 3 lety

      You know, it’s funny because I thought a lot about this particular issue. I did my homework and figured that using the spec sheet was the best way to go. Just like gas mileage with a car, the battery life varies depending on how you use it.
