- A lot of people fly long range FPV with batteries that are too heavy. Big batteries equal long flight times, but does it fly any good? My favorite long range battery setup provides plenty of range and a drone with agility that feels good to fly.

I love the narration/behind the scenes/commentary in your vids! I was considering the hero 11 mini, thank you for sharing your experience, that’s helped me!! Hero 12 it is!
Glad it was helpful!
I've got the 21700's in the cart right now.. before I hit the buy button I thought I'd come and check you out first.. glad I did. I've already built one 18650 p28a 6s2p and a p26a 6s2p.. I think I'll go for a couple more of those instead of a 21700. Always love your videos brother!!!! Thanks so much for making them!!
"props" for going for that dive even after pruning that tree lol - Great stuff as always
Thanks 👍
Pretty amazing flying, dude! 😃
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Thanks 👍
Oh, man - I saw that in real time when it happened and have been hoping you'd do something with the video, as I wanted to actually see the hit - and it didn't' disappoint ! great flight as always :)
Thanks buddy!
nice flying, can't wait tell the summer, got a new analog build can't wait to try it out.
Love this and love my new Falconrad Li-ion 7", flys like butter!! So happy with the frame over here in New Zealand.
Great to hear that you like it! Happy flying!
Great flying and a very cool place to fly.
Really appreciate your thoughts on equipment. Super helpful. Plus awesome footage. There are few men I idolize, but you are one.
I appreciate that!
Good tips, thanks! Love watching these long range fpv flights.
More to come!
Love these tech details!
Funny, my “go to battery” for the last year has also been a 6s2p pack made with P28a cells. In fact I’m about to build another one. In addition to the weight, I also like the size, it just fits much nicer.
Regarding the tree, I love how these heavier 7” quad just cut through stuff. I often fly in the woods and have had to “plow myself out” through branches a few times. No problem! Smaller quads easily get tangled up…
Last thing, at the end I saw someone has a Madza CX5. I recently got a 6-speed manual diesel version and it’s surprisingly capable on logging trails, even when there’s deep snow!
Anyway, good video, thanks for sharing. Cheers from Norway!
haha, I'm in the middle of building a couple of new sets as well. My simple amp meter/power meter is reading 5300mAh from the new ones, so 2650 out of 2800 at about 4.5 amps for the load. I'm looking forward to flying the new ones soon.
I was actually really impressed where that thing can go off road. My truck wouldn't make it up one spot (not a 4x4)and he gave me a ride in the CX5, no problem.
@@FalconRadFPV yea, that AWD system works well. I drove it somewhere I’d be nervous to take my tractors a few weeks ago…
I’m looking forward to having a couple new packs. Mine are pretty “whooped”, I’ve pushed them well beyond theirs limits dozens of times. Certainly lost some total capacity but surprisingly they still work well…
I’m going to do some “benchmark tests” and comparisons once I finish building the new packs.
oldguyFPV; That tree, clearly jumped out and bit your drone!
Finally at least one person that actually saw what happened!
Id love to see a video about vibration in relation to the goPro. You mentioned once about the difference in GoPro footage not geing really crisp with any kind of vibrations. I would love to see some example of that.
Thanks for the idea! I've been thinking about more videos focused on how I use the GoPro, and settings etc....
gorgeous flight, what is with the blurred rectangle on the last dive?
It’s weird how many issues people have with the hero 11 mini, I’ve had mine for well over a year with little issues. I do agree though, for a 7” long range you may as well just get the 12 these days
AWESOME Content as always!! Stay safe FalconRAD!!
Thanks! You too!
Incredible looking area to fly, nice flight! Glad you didn't have to hike up and retrieve your quad in a pine tree, haha.
I wanted to mention that I just sent back my 1st GoPro Hero 11 Mini for a replacement, as well. It lasted about 8 months and out of the blue it wouldn't turn on without a hard reset of holding the power button for 10 seconds. Even when I turned it off, it would heat up and drain the battery in less than an hour, making it essentially useless. I'm bummed but glad GoPro is sending another one.
ya that's what happened to one of mine. I was lucky and they let me get my 4th one (3rd replacement) just a few weeks after the 1 year warranty ended.
They messed up this one...Crossing my fingers for this next camera. But yea, I'll stick to full sized GoPro from now on. @@FalconRadFPV
👍 great flight as usual. Good thing those branches were no match for the 7” props 😅
Thanks 👍
Nice video!
Thanks!
Those darn trees will get ya every time!!!
Awesome flight. Beautiful. Tree trimming lol got close to some of those rocks. Great flight enjoyed it a lot bless Falcon Rad left a like
Glad you enjoyed it
1:00 minet in you talked about the mini 11. I just was wondering if you had a 3d printed mount for it with vents in the 3d print to force air over it to help keep it cool. I'm not sure if heat is this problem but I have seen with most versions of gopro there is heat problems. Just a thought. Nice video.
Ya I have the back fairly open so the fins for the heatsink will get lots of air. It's been either battery or freezing issues with the ones I've gone through.
Lemme recommend the insta360 Ace Pro.
edit - yeah, it's heavy, but its SO good.
Does the amperage calibration stay fairly accurate for you between the different weights of the packs like going from a 1p to a 2p pack? I haven't tested this on my 7" because I only have built 2p packs and was considering building a couple 21700 1p packs for shorter range stuff. Just trying to compile some info before I buy any more batteries.
i think the hero 12 minus the battery is a similar weight to the mini, i just bought the iflight usb adapter for gopro, seems good, not sure i noticed the weight though only flew a couple of packs. the extra weight of the 12 over the 6 was making my 5 inch drift out a lot on cornering, which is a major bumber for cinematic stuff. clipping branches is just awful, i've done it a few times running rivers and it just makes the heart sink, cant punch out, cant turn around, quad came back once with 5 inches of tree with leaves wedged between arms and body of the quad, '' thats ma boy!''
haha you mad it back with an actual piece of branch still on it, awesome! Glad you didn't have to go for a dip in the river to go get it.
Get some 8" arms cut for your rpm frame and throw some 8" props on your 3008 motors, pretty good fit... 2170s should feel alot better on 8"
Thats for the 1155kv
I may just give that a try.....
I have a 7" I changed to 8" I'm thinking changing to 2808 or 3008 motors. Thinking it would fly a lil better. Maybe even be more efficient
Ya with the extra weight of the 8" prop a 2806.5 would be on the small side. As far as my opinion goes, I would recommend the 3008 as a minimum size for 8" props.
@@FalconRadFPV yea the reason i use master screw biblades (very light) and tri their props are decent amount lighter it seems.
Thanks Im try it. I been looking at specs on 2808, 2809, and 3008. I feel like i wont even lose any efficiency. might gain since wont struggle to turn props up and down so fly smoother
So with my testing with ur rad li-ion and the auline 6s1p 4000mah 35a batteries and getting 12-15 min flights with the 2806.5 1750kv motors with cruising and some dives ......I haven't ran them in parallel as I don't have long enough straps ...do you run one battery on top and one on bottom on the rad li-ion?
Bannister rips🤘🤙
Yes that's right, one on top and one underneath. It keeps the top plate small and keeps the drag down having it all tight in the middle rather than spreading it out over a long top plate.
@@FalconRadFPV awesome thanks for the reply Mr.rad keep up the awesome videos I'll have to try the 18650 cells next .. can't wait for better weather to hit some spots and really push it. Happy flying man 🤘🙏
Where in the earth are you ? What's this place called ? Awsome flight mate !
Thanks you, I'm on the west coast of canada.
I'm having issues getting clear analog video. My geprc ef10 video has diagonal lines armed and throttled up its worse. The 10" Quad has two 50v 1000uf caps. I even tried using a 12v bec on the vtx and using the vtx 5v for the camera. Didn't help much. I'm suspecting the FC/esc is just noisy. Any suggestions? Or should I get a different stack? I love analog when it's clear.
Ya some stacks are just cleaner (electrically) than others. I've had good success with the t-motor f7 pro FC and f55 proII ESC.
Very interesting. - But why are all these trees dead? There are some thin rows of trees with green, but the rest seems to be dead. Despite it the grass is still green. Very confusing.
There was a fire years ago. So the quickly growing grasses and flowers are back but the trees will take years to recover fully.
@@FalconRadFPVThank you very very much for this background info and clarification! It's so sad to see nature suffering.
Have a good time!
What do you use to charge your batteries in the field? Do you plug a battery charger in the cigarette lighter in your vehicle, or do you connect the charger directly to your car battery? Also, what amp setting do you use to charge your 18650s and 21700s? Thanks. And thanks for the video too :)
I use alligator clips right on to the battery and a splitter to run two chargers. But I'm looking into getting a mini portable power station (basically a battery with outlets on it) for charging soon. I usually charge my 18650's at 2amps (2.5 if I'm in a rush) and my 21700 packs at 3 amps. Except for the samsung 50s, If I remember right they should be charged at 2.5 amps. I think the Auline 21700 instructions asked for a low charging level also, can't remember what it is right now. Generally speaking the lower the charge rate the better. But some of the new li-ion's, I think p45b is one of them, are rated for a max charge rate of over 10amps, seems a bit crazy to me though.
Thanks for your reply. That sounds similar to how I charge batteries from my vehicle.@@FalconRadFPV
This the bad thing of the master screw props i been using sometimes. You hit anything they break easily.
oh, that's good to know. I was thinking about testing some out but they are often sold out in FPV stores.
@FalconRadFPV I use on my 8" alot. I feel like I'm getting slightly better flight time. But I'm doing anything risky I worry haha
Do you have a website ? To buy the long range batteries
I don't sell batteries at the moment. I may in the future...
@FalconRadFPV anyways let me know I'm from Vancouver
