Sophia this is the best video ever. You’re successful because your passion shows! And I totally agree with your work ethic…hard work DOES pay off, if you’re at the right company. I understand the burnout but I totally disagree with the quiet quitting culture today. I have tripled my salary over the last ten years without extra degrees and I have a really easy job right now which helps me spend more time with my daughter. The strategy of working hard, taking on extra work and just doing my best paid off because I was at a good company. You’re an inspiration regarding your savings and budgeting :) I have some debt to pay off over the next year and needed this❤
Great video. The high points for me were covered with budgeting, maintaining separate accounts, investing, shopping smart (sales/consignment), and checking your inventory before sales seasons. I'd add it that has helped me contextualize is tracking empties/declutters/donations or even number of uses (depending on product type). When I first started skincare a few years ago I didn't realize how much product I actually used and, while I could have kept a spreadsheet, I just kept empties for 6 months. This gave me a very realistic understanding of how much product I had/needed. I also find it's helpful to figure out what you "want" from your belongings for your lifestyle. I'm often of the mindset that for long term use purchases I want something high quality or I just want/need to replace it in a very short period of time. As an example, I paid a bit over $100 a year for a blender (pre-Ninja days) for 4-5 years because they kept breaking given that I make a lot of smoothies with ice. Then almost a decade ago I bought a Vitamix for a discounted price of about $450, and while I paid substantially more for the product it has lasted and given me a superior result for that entire time period. I apply similar logic for clothing and actually for many makeup products where I prefer 1 "perfect" product to 20 types of variety. Alternatively for skincare that is regularly used up I often don't find the luxury spends worth the 1-2 months of use. Applying this logic to makeup purchases for others, if you're making decisions on where to spend your money on luxury it might help to figure out where you want to see consistency and a superior result. For example maybe you find 1-3 foundations that will always give you a superior base that you'll use up, but buy less expensive lipsticks if you like to have 30 different colors/finishes and will never use up a 10th of the product before it goes bad.

One of the best ways to save time & money on work clothes is to wear a uniform. Meaning? The same style. Why? Because it eliminates the stress of figuring out what to wear and saves you money since you're wearing the same style. For example: pick 3 to 5 white button-down blouses, black pants (or skirts) and black shoes. If you want to be completely stress free: select your go-to bag, hairstyle & jewelry and wear that 24/5 too. However, if you like color or dressing up - spice things up by changing your bags, jewelry, hairstyle and shoes.
Good for you sofia! Pre married life, I was able to buy myself several big ticket items and I’m soooo happy I did! I was working a full time corporate job and waitressing on weekends so I could do that. Now with a family, handbags & trips are not the priority. But glad it’s out of my system. Side note though, the price increases are crazy.
I’ve been admittedly really impulsive with my spending lately (and let’s be honest, my whole life) and this was the encouragement I needed to start taking budgeting seriously, so thank you!
I always enjoy this type of videos. I think self-awareness when it comes to finance is essential. I am at a point in my life where I can't splurge on too much, I have a few little bits that I love and enjoy, but I generally have to budget even for make up. I am fine with that, for the moment, and I don't feel the need to overspend. I particularly appreciate you mentioning not to finance "frivolous" expenditures, because I think that is a problem for some people, and it's a dangerous road to take.
Cost of living is a huge factor. I live in one of the most expensive areas of England... When I compare costs with colleagues living in more affordable areas it's a huge difference costing hundreds of pounds per month
I lived in England as an American and I found it very difficult to live there. It was so insanely expensive. I was so happy to move back home to the US and was able to buy a house and afford to save.
I can relate! I live in one of the top 3 most expensive places in the US. In fact I’ll be moving in January so I can have more money to reach my savings goals. The cities really squeeze their residents ☹️

This mindset helps me to buy a few luxury items per year AND travelling. I buy preloved and own Chanel, Balengiaga & Fendi by now. I have items on my wishlists for months or years until I find them in the perfect condition at my price range. Being aware of the own income and the financial goals is so rewarding! EDIT I love your honesty and how hard you focus on working.

This video is what I want to see right now especially as Christmas and the general holiday season starts. I used to be so good at budgeting and following my budget and then a few years ago, my laptop was broken, and COVID hit and it all seemed to start falling apart. I thought I’d be able to manage my budget on my phone and iPad but I see I really just want Excel back and to see things on a larger screen. I guess with my age, that’s become more important. I would love to see videos about the costs abroad. I mean if I can get a trip to Italy out of it, that’s the better deal right?? 😅❤ I am really focusing on being intentional with my purchases. I’m trying to be realistic and I recently found my 3 style words and I’m fiercely applying that to makeup and clothes. Loved this video!! These are incredibly practical and logical tips for better managing finances. Honestly, I'm great about budgeting for bills, regular retirement savings, additional IRA, HSA, however - I am not good with managing my spending money and I do put some luxury items on credit cards. I had planned to open an additional Savings account at a separate bank apart from primary accounts for the purpose of more expensive travel & my dream vacations! So just need to get myself there to get it done! 😅. Also another thing I can see immediately is adding in expense lines to my paycheck budgets for 'travel savings,' 'work clothing', 'beauty.' I do really appreciate watching the reviews....and your honest thoughts....help tremendously when deciding which products to try!! Thank you! The timing is great with the holidays coming up. 😊❤
This was great! I fell in love many years ago with Kate Spade and her styling and handbags. A $348 handbag is still not cheap but allows me to collect them. And I am very intrigued with the new Vegan Leather Aupen bags for about that same cost but very popular with the rich and famous. Taylor Swift and Hailey Bieber have been seen carrying them. I think its the wave of the future!

Hi All. Sofia shared some great tips on the managing your money segment. A couple other items I would recommend is having 3-6 months emergency fund. Once you have a budget and know your monthly fixed and estimated variable expenses multiple by 3 or 6 months and start saving that in a liquid account like a high yield savings or mutual fund. Also if your company matches a % for 401k TAKE ADVANTAGE and start early to take advantage of time 😊

Really good, solid advice! I was raised with my Dad always saying, "If you don't earn it with your own two hands, it's not yours." So, I never, ever go into debt for anything. That said, I still spend way too much. I cringed when you talked about how much you spend monthly on makeup. I have been spending about the same, bc I'm a crow and like shiny things; luckily I earn enough to afford what I buy. But this is an area I'm trying to work on. I reached a point a long time ago where I have way more makeup than I need. I do regularly destash items that either I don't reach for or are the same color/color story - typically I keep the best/newest. Unlike you, I am buying just for my own personal use (and posting on my IG) bc I gave up my blog many, many years ago. I'm trying to refocus myself to do better at saving for travel. I'm working on actually using a budget to allocate for that. I enjoyed some of your tips and tricks. I'd actually love a vid from you talking about traveling to buy luxury.

The best time to get a deal is usually Black Friday when there are tiered sales at department stores or to go directly to the brads website because they earn more margin for those sales and can offer a steeper discount!
cost per wear. if i know i will wear/use something a lot, i will buy it even if it’s expensive. i bought a cartier tank watch with my first paycheck in the early 2000s, and i’ve worn it almost everyday since. the cost over the years is now just 10 dollars a month or 30 cents a day! and it’s still going strong, still classically beautiful, and it will be something i can pass on so it was totally worth it. like sofia, i’d rather buy the more expensive item that i know will last and will use often than something fast fashion. (although i do buy uniqlo for house clothes and the basics - it’s the rare case of something that’s good quality but cheap.)

Yes, as long as it's something that very clearly was necessary for the business with the intent to grow the business. I review makeup, so without the makeup I can't run the channel. Can't do it for for shopping sprees and things of course, lol!
I keep pictures of my outfits so that I don’t buy the same clothing twice. For example if I am trying something I will check to see if I have something similar already.

I literally just watched a video of a woman who went on a shopping vacation, already after just coming back from one. She bought 10 pairs of high end luxury shoes, 4 bags and clothing to boot. It made me mad because I cant justify one of the things she bought. I hate feeling that way.
For sure that career makes a decent amount but I would hardly call myself "rich". The average price of a small house where I live is about $1 million. The cost of living doesn't match up with salaries anymore. I also don't work for an Amazon or Google :)

The point of the video is that buying luxury doesn't hold me back from those goals. I am not looking to buy a house this year and have plenty of other investments. I am also not sitting here complaining that I don't have a house
Yes exactly Judy. If it's an expense that is very clearly beneficial/necessary to the business, a business owner can write it off. We still have to pay for it of course lol! But it helps reduce your taxes a bit for a small business

Hi All. Sofia shared some great tips on the managing your money segment. A couple other items I would recommend is having 3-6 months emergency fund. Once you have a budget and know your monthly fixed and estimated variable expenses multiple by 3 or 6 months and start saving that in a liquid account like a high yield savings or mutual fund. Also if your company matches a % for 401k TAKE ADVANTAGE and start early to take advantage of time 😊

Really good, solid advice! I was raised with my Dad always saying, "If you don't earn it with your own two hands, it's not yours." So, I never, ever go into debt for anything. That said, I still spend way too much. I cringed when you talked about how much you spend monthly on makeup. I have been spending about the same, bc I'm a crow and like shiny things; luckily I earn enough to afford what I buy. But this is an area I'm trying to work on. I reached a point a long time ago where I have way more makeup than I need. I do regularly destash items that either I don't reach for or are the same color/color story - typically I keep the best/newest. Unlike you, I am buying just for my own personal use (and posting on my IG) bc I gave up my blog many, many years ago. I'm trying to refocus myself to do better at saving for travel. I'm working on actually using a budget to allocate for that. I enjoyed some of your tips and tricks. I'd actually love a vid from you talking about traveling to buy luxury.

The best time to get a deal is usually Black Friday when there are tiered sales at department stores or to go directly to the brads website because they earn more margin for those sales and can offer a steeper discount!

cost per wear. if i know i will wear/use something a lot, i will buy it even if it’s expensive. i bought a cartier tank watch with my first paycheck in the early 2000s, and i’ve worn it almost everyday since. the cost over the years is now just 10 dollars a month or 30 cents a day! and it’s still going strong, still classically beautiful, and it will be something i can pass on so it was totally worth it.
like sofia, i’d rather buy the more expensive item that i know will last and will use often than something fast fashion. (although i do buy uniqlo for house clothes and the basics - it’s the rare case of something that’s good quality but cheap.)

I literally just watched a video of a woman who went on a shopping vacation, already after just coming back from one. She bought 10 pairs of high end luxury shoes, 4 bags and clothing to boot. It made me mad because I cant justify one of the things she bought. I hate feeling that way.

For sure that career makes a decent amount but I would hardly call myself "rich". The average price of a small house where I live is about $1 million. The cost of living doesn't match up with salaries anymore. I also don't work for an Amazon or Google :)

Yes exactly Judy. If it's an expense that is very clearly beneficial/necessary to the business, a business owner can write it off. We still have to pay for it of course lol! But it helps reduce your taxes a bit for a small business
